Latest CCC driver usually have optimizations done for newer games. Read around for the difference between 8.9 and 8.8. Many have reported getting improved FPS in games. (I mean those gaming forums...)

Exploding PSU, what PSU was it?

ST50F, I used this in my rig before. It worked out fine. No noise like my Huntkey. 500W pawning 550W lol. Since ST56F is the bigger brother, I think it should work out fine for a single 4850. Crossfire no idea.

what gc u recom.. 9800gt or hd 4850??

4850 will thrash 9800GT. Better comparison would be 4850 versus 9800GTX, but price tag. Err...

ermm thanks for u all information...

http://en.hardspell.com/doc/showcont.asp?news_id=3807 to make u feel more confident on 4850 tongue.gif. Frankly, they aren't on the same generation. 4850 was meant to compete with GTX260 (although price gap is there..).

I think those 1GB slower because they are using slower memory. Maybe 0.8ns versus 1.0ns to reduce cost?

4870 1GB uses a lot more wattage than 4870 512mb? IMO almost the same la for the wattage, plus or minus a bit only.

LOL at Huntkey. This was the Green Star 450W that exploded in some of the review? This proves that the emergency circuit sucks. 450W "true power".

means the HuntKey Green is a extreme instead of Real Power?
*
Err, that is how Cooler Master calls their product. Extreme is rated at peak input, where else the true power are rated at the wattage they are able to output (though their peak input is higher, 650W for their 550W model.)

This Huntkey was never a true power. Those wattage figure are just the peak input that's all.

golden question @celciuz
from what i see..
can it be used on 2 gpu onboard GC?
coz from what i know..it is not even compatible with HD3870x2...

Great shakehead.gif stupid me. x2. Apologies notworthy.gif

As what xpresside said, watercooling is the best choice already for dual core GPU.

Usually your hardware will kill the PSU instead.

But anyways, we seems to be real off topic. Shouldn't we be discussing about Gainward stuffs? biggrin.gif.

Right, even if Netraid doesn't mind, the moderators might mind if we keep straying off topic this long (few pages lol).

My new rig using CM 650w extreme power(very stable on my single card hd4850gs,and its have two 6pins pcie)
and somehow i OCed my proc n my ram too tongue.gif (still very stable)

the price different between CM550w extreme and CM650w extreme is only RM50 o wink.gif
*
Though, looking at the specs, it means that Extreme Power 650W has typical 70% efficiency, which translates to about 455W output. Somewhat similiar to a Real Power 450W instead @@.

Well, if it doesn't use some crap circuit protection like Huntkey did, the PSU should shut itself off before it "exploding".

At 455W, (650W*0.7) running 2 4850GS might be stressing on the PSU though. Just IMO.

IMO 50 bucks difference there worth it. Real Power 550W has true power of 550W and peaking at 650W. Basically both has the same maximum wattage, just the RP has better efficiency 80% versus 70% (550W output vs 455W output approximately). Can't really see the numbers these days =/

Oic, wat im trying to show is 550w extreme is stable enough for 4850gs

but for not stressing the psu u can always go 650w extreme or Real power 520w

seriously i didnt did too many research for the PSU b4 i buy,all i did is testing out practically,so if their power output is same(RP vs extreme) i mind consider the RP too.

sometime not all the ayam brand cannot be use la,(everyone know Nike shoes is good, but tat doesnt means pasar malam shoes cannot be wear ma)
*
Even Huntkey VPower 550W can run 4850GS shakehead.gif But makes noise only ma when FPS goes high. (No noise when GC is loaded but FPS stays low so it doesn't sound like a overloading problem to me)

QUOTE(lotiman2003 @ Oct 5 2008, 12:43 PM)
I think many still using the reference card and some has changed the cooler (I read it at ATI 4000 Discussion thread)

Added on October 5, 2008, 12:51 pm

Cap ayam is not bad if you build cheaper PC (Without high end GC). And yeah, CD/DVD-ROM usually the first one kaput in most for my case. I already bought over 10 CD/DVD drives and most of it never reach 2 years old.

I wonder those cap ayam 500W can run HD4350.
*
My cap ayam seems is still running my 4850GS le, 550W.

QUOTE(cyew86 @ Oct 5 2008, 02:04 PM)
yup, may be getting it, i would certainly buy it now if i were in the shop now, but who knows, i always change my mind doh.gif and for Huntkey, i believe that u have watched the video and read the review right? whistling.gif

i think for ODD it's better to stick to good brands like ASUS and LG (1st LG was in my first PC, 32X CDROM, still worked when i changed the rig), but i wouldn't recommend Lite-on and Samsung
*
Lite-On was good back then, now? LOL. I got 2 broken cdrom until now, both are lite-on. All the LG are working fine though. Got 4 units of the 3 units of the DVD writer version, all still working biggrin.gif.

QUOTE(desmond1310 @ Oct 5 2008, 04:29 PM)
Er, I already bought the card, but just sent my card back to RMA. that's why / ... /  blush.gif

I'm eager to know what more changes they did too.
*
I'm going to courrier mine tomorrow for postage. Exam week, good time for my GC to leave my PC lol!

Anyways, I think the newer batch is probably using newer "version" of the 4850. Maybe like the C0 -> E0 transition for the Intel chips? Thus explains the more stable chip + lower temp. I doubt plating nickel on the heatpipes will improve temperature alone tongue.gif. That is just for the looks smile.gif.

For the 4850 non reference card, it is easy to pick which card ma biggrin.gif. the GS comes with higher clock among all the non reference. Though not the same case for the 4870, lose to HIS 4870 OC by 5mhz on the core ._.
