Mealworms that are not gutloaded is pretty useless. Why? Coz not enough nutrients. You also dunno what they feed the mealworms, it can be unhealthy. The poo of the mealworm is like sand.... it doesn't stick to the worms so it is not dirty.

pink_baby, read this also http://suggiesathome.wordpress.com/category/diet/

The links provided by our member here on the calcium phosphorus ratio is good enough already.
Shutterstar, thanks for getting the links. I will include in the 1st page.

QUOTE(Gr3eN @ Sep 23 2008, 05:46 PM)
I hv a question here..
I knw gliders cant drink the normal milk tat v always drink..
bt y they can take yogurt? I tot the yogurt is made frm milk..??
*
Well, yogurt is made of milk, but the lactose is already predigested by the probiotics in it, so it is easily digested by the glider.

http://www.healthcastle.com/herb_lact.shtml

Now only certain marsupials can take small amounts of lactose, like gliders. If we give yogurt to a koala or kangaroo, it can die. Gliders can take lactose that are lower than 3%....

QUOTE(^MochI^ @ Sep 23 2008, 06:23 PM)
can we give gilders drink human baby milk?
*
Nooooo.... milk, for humans be it from cow or goat or camel is loaded with lactose.... unsafe.

QUOTE(^MochI^ @ Sep 23 2008, 07:12 PM)
haiya, i got researchs la, websites say can give human baby milk and bread. I just want a double confirm wad.

Some website are so misleading.

U see, i ask here can feed bread anot, nezu says cannot, but webby says can.
If i dun ask and care for my suggie i dun need double confirm la.
*
Which website? Give us the link.

Bread is best not too often. I won't give bread loh.... coz it can be bloaty to the tummy as you know, bread absorbs moisture. It can cause constipation if given too much in one meal. People use bread as treats but I would avoid bread that we buy outside. If I bake the bread and I know what is inside, then yes, maybe I would feed.

QUOTE(faerieC @ Sep 23 2008, 07:33 PM)
yalo... really need to double confirm. cos last time i also not sure bout feeding egg. some say cannot give egg yolk, only egg white. but in some websites written can.

ask is better than keep silent & feed wrong/harmful food to sugie smile.gif
*
Ok.... to clear this up. Feeding just egg white ain't enough. Eggs are only beneficial if you feed both white and yolk. The egg white has only protein. Minerals, omega fats, vitamins and other nutrients are all in the yolk. If we throw away the yolk, all the good stuff is gone. This was in an article in the newspaper about benefits of egg. As we are feeding cook eggs, it is ok. In the wild, gliders take raw birds eggs.

Egg yolk is only bad if eaten on it's own and also too much(Like giving 1 egg yolk everyday). Too much yolk can cause cholesterol problems in all animals, and lead to fatty liver.

It's like the kibble thing.... before I chatted with a UK breeder, I always thought that kibbles would give gliders Lumpy jaw. The breeder told me something that made good sense. In US, people often see gliders with sores in the mouth(Lumpy Jaw) is coz they feed a diet that is very very high in sugar. If we research BML mix, it is mainly made with lots of honey and juice. The juice is not even the pure 100% kind. So the gliders take a very high amount of sugar. In captivity, since there is no sap for them to get in trees, gliders cannot use their teeth to strip bark. Striping bark cleans their teeth and strengthens them too. So when kibbles are offered, and with weak gums(like humans eat sweets without brushing teeth), the hard kibbles give sores in the mouth.

Now, a good amount of breeders are omitting honey and high sugar foods out of their glider's diets, giving chewing material and also small amount of kibbles. Limiting the kibbles to a few pieces a day is good enough coz too much can cause problems. You just want some of the beneficial nutrients from the kibble and also to exercise the glider's jaw.

Hun,

What's Fluff Petstore? Who's petstore? I don't know the location even though saw the map. But should be no problem if i want to find the place according the address..

The thread is moving super fast..good..

Added on September 23, 2008, 8:36 pmHun, My female glider still extremely skiny even though i have given what i think best for her. Should i get her Slurp or? Pls recommend me something cuz she is still skiny..
*
Well, if you can fine PAWS animal shelter, you can find the small banners/signs that lead you to NZX.

Hopefully the thread stays this way.

Still skinny? You can try Slurp if you want. How much is she eating every night?

Hun, since kibble is good in small amount. What brand you personally use? I wanna try too..

I totally have no idea about her being skiny..i see that she's eating normally wink.gif  wink.gif

Yeala, time to get Slurp. I suppose Pet Shack should have Hun?
*
So far I have used Orijen and Eaglepack holistic before. Would suggest those for cats coz cat kibbles easier for gliders to hold and chew.

I guess her metabolism is high.

Slurp now only sold at Fluff and Pet Epicure. Pet Shack is only selling smoothie for gliders by Nezu.

Yes, I have weigh my gliders before. The ideal weight, if we go according to overseas standards should be between 115g to 140g..... females are normally lighter and males heavier. People say my gliders are fat but they are only about 100g. Lowest for me is 81g, highest is 105g.... It could be our climate, coz here no cold season so there is no need for them to store fat.... or it could be that many gliders here were sold as underage joeys, so the growth stunted a bit.... many possibilities.

3kg is like Rm50plus? I also can't remember LOL. Coz either tomorrow or Thursday me going to Pet Epicure to get some supplies.

Now I am feeding Innova evo to them, but I think Eaglepack better.

Cheetah doesnt  eat kibble.-.-

hun, i cant get back the link, it was a random search. Anyways, its a suggie breeder's website, introducing suggie's staple food and duno wad drops. It says ITS BASIC to leave half a slice of bread overnight for them coz they contains certain sugars thats good for them.. and goes on.

i just mixed apple, celery, cabbage, yogurts and chicken into smoothie for cheetah and it seems to like it alot.

Shld i feed only 1 fruit like papaya or apple each night? or i shld mix and match ?
*
Bread overnight? That's bad wei.... I have never heard or read it. Bread can cause bloat....

Fruits you should give, if possible 3 types each day. 2 is still ok. 1 type of fruit a day is not enough.

For me, tonight my gliders are getting plum, guava, papaya, apples, carrots, snow peas, strawberries and some kibbles.

QUOTE(aurion @ Sep 23 2008, 10:53 PM)
Mix and match would be a better option as different fruits and veges have different vitamins and minerals which are beneficial. For me, I feed 3 types of fruit and vege per day.
*
Yups. THat's the best.

QUOTE(pink_baby @ Sep 23 2008, 10:55 PM)
just now i use my finger to 'sayang' minnie but she bite my finger le...keep biting while i sayang her like my finger is her food...duno wat's happen??is it normal??

Added on September 23, 2008, 11:07 pmbtw she seems feel itchy n keep scratching all over her body le...wat shud i do??
*
Biting.... is more like chewing than biting.... bite means with puncture wounds and bleeding. Nipping is a sharp one time bite but no bleeding. Grooming is like chewing.... scraping the skin....

Itchy? Maybe your joey is grooming herself. If she licks her back leg's toes and scratch, means it is grooming.

The chewing you part is normal.

Gliders hate lights. They are nocturnal animals.

I know what you mean by chewing. Joeys like to do that. If she chews too much, just push her nose away.

QUOTE(pink_baby @ Sep 24 2008, 01:29 PM)
when i blow her then she'll bark le.. cry.gif
*
Is not bark. Crab. Bark is memang like puppy barking. Crabbing is like some machine gun or engine going "crek crek crek".

QUOTE(ekazakaria @ Sep 24 2008, 02:35 PM)
Hun,

Is it possible that if suggies bark, its means they are angry?

Coz i realize that Pika will bark if:

1) Miya annoyed her (by refuse to play with Pika and spend most time running on wheel)

2) I take her and wipe with wet tissue when she's happily playing around

3) I put her slurp quite late than usual time (this always happen during weekends when i woke up a bit late then usual)... tongue.gif
*
Not really. If they are angry, they would hiss, chatter and do a different sort of crabbing. Barking is like announcing themselves. Only Pika does it? As I know barking is like calling one another. It can mean they sense danger, wanna give warning to their friends, just wanna communicate with other gliders, calling out for something. My gliders sometimes bark in the middle of the day while inside their sleeping pouch, dunno what they are up to but I hear it very often at night.

QUOTE(pink_baby @ Sep 24 2008, 03:39 PM)
where can i buy it??

Added on September 24, 2008, 3:43 pm
oh...then how long i shud wipe my minnie once?  hmm.gif
i got a prob when i handle minnie out from her cage...when i hand her out she'll start pee then poo on my hand le...then i feel her body shaking... doh.gif
*
Wet wipes only use when necessary. Go pharmacy or supermarket to get.

It is so normal for gliders to pee and poo when you wake them up and take them from their cage before they can finish doing their business. Shaking is also normal, part of regulating their body's temperature when they wake up.

QUOTE(^MochI^ @ Sep 24 2008, 05:41 PM)
i heard crazy say peach orchard sticks is poisonious for them
*
Yes, peach is toxic. I also didn't know till I googled, and that time I bought one pack. Wasted my money coz even hamsters and rabbits cannot take. So I had to throw them away.

QUOTE(faerieC @ Sep 24 2008, 05:42 PM)
TQ, TQ.. but her size still so small. since many says she's underage, makes me so worry bout her ev-day & nite.

p/s: faster share ur lovely Gino pics for us also ya
very cute ehh... btw wats her name? how old/big alrd?
trimmed twice, but growing fast...good also. tht means she's healthy flex.gif kakaka
isn't it?
cannot give sugies peach flavor sticks/chips. its toxic to them...if not mistaken i think crazymouse advised me b4. i bought for milly is apple flavor. nonid feed, just put in their cage or hang(wif special hanger "Critter Ka-Bob" saw at pet shack). they will bite when their teeth itchy...wanna bite bite something.  laugh.gif
*
Hahaha... not flavour... is really apple sticks. Gliders can chew on apple sticks and gooseberry sticks.

Gliders mainly like to strip the bark. Once it has no more bark, you must replace it. They don't really bite, just tear off the bark. It's good exercise for their gums and teeth.

Yes, gliders can digest pork. Fish.... not very sure as so far I have never seen any breeder offer fish. Chicken is still the best as it is easily digested. Never give beef coz beef is high in phosphorus.

For introduction, it really depends on the glider itself. Some gliders can accept other gliders easily. Kiah is ok with certain gliders, Kapi is more aggressive to new comers while Keera is the friendliest. All females mind you. Males have a harder time accepting new comers, especially if the male is very dominant.

*
Glider proof means you make your room safe for your glider. Means no exposed wires or electrical outlets, no glass to topple down shelves, no chemicals or bug spray, no holes or windows to climb out.

QUOTE(Sophiera @ Sep 25 2008, 02:55 PM)
I think for a single glider (normally people keep 2 so they can play with each other) the fellas should get 3-5 hours of playtime a day, so she can bond with you and get excersise.

Yes, a single glider needs more play time. You are so right.

*
If it is on your back and body.... don't you think it is caused by bed bugs? Coz gliders rarely get any mites since their fur is dense and mites from animals won't cause red dots loh.

I'm going to have more joeys soon. - Saw some kicking in momma's pouch last night. I'm a bit curious though, when my previous joeys were about a little more than 2 mth OOP, they seem to be big and, very fluffy. Growing super fast. At 2 and a half month, my male joey seems to be a little smaller than mummy only. Is that the right size? What do you guys think.

What muchan86 means by limiting mealies is limiting mealworms. Not the fruits. A growing joeys needs all the fruit and nutrition it can get. Mealworms are full of fat and phosphorus besides protein, so that is why we must limit the mealworm intake to about 5-8 mealworms a day.

Coz everyday my mixture of fruits and veges + chicken i will add abit of yogurts.

And.. Petshack provided nail trimming service? how much ?
*
Please do not give pork. If it is in the kibble is ok but not the pork meat. People normally give cooked chicken coz it is easier to digest. Also pork meat is not very high in calcium. The one in kibbled, already processed to be suitable.

*
It is normal for them to want to sleep in their food bowls. One is to be closer to the food source, then it also feels more secure. What you can do is take out the food bowl once you find your joey sleeping inside. It will automatically find another place to sleep, so have the sleeping pouch near the area of the food bowl.

*
Add a little bit more? Your info is not for fresh food but it is for staple diet, which is very different. Fresh food needs to be changed everyday at each feedings. and no such thing as add a bit more with the left overs. Joeys need 2 feedings a day, in the morning when they are still awake, a light meal and in the evening a bigger meal.

Hey guys, a few days ago Frey seemed to be having constipation. She kept licking her butt every few minutes. It really freaked me out.

Then I followed Hun's advise and got her some no-sugar, no-preservative, cranberry and apple juice. After 1st night feeding no more vigorous butt licking dy.

She was a little reluctant to take the juice on its own so I used the instant slurp and mix it with the juice. She accepted it and ate it like slurp. On the second night, I added just a little strawberry yogurt (just a small dip at the tip of the spoon) and mixed with her cranberry apple instant slurp. She was making nice chirping noises while she ate it!

blush.gif Her poop is still a little hard so I'm going to make the mix for her tonight again but she can pass "business" without problems.

thumbup.gif So anyone whose glider has constipation, use cranberry juice! Preferably no sugar and no preservatives ya.

Good to know she is improving with the juice.

[attachmentid=607895]
thats Mumble, my lazy fat boy..
[attachmentid=607900]
i dont noe why is he looking down maybe its my dog.. oh well.. thats Mumble again.

Slightly underage, maybe 6 weeks OOP.... well, it would be best you get a pic of the tail as well.

The cage is alright for now, but they won't enjoy much height. A cage with height is much better since their are tree animals.

sasha is on the food bowl mumble is the big one on the cage floor.. thats the best i cud take she never stays in 1 place for more that 10 seconds.. even while eating she chews a lil bit then the grabs it and hangs upside down on the cage to eat it..
*
Ah, this picture is better. She looks 8 weeks OOP, judging by the tail. It could be she is just small size as some joeys grow slower, depending on how they are brought up. She looks ok, as long she keeps eating and is active, you don't need to be too worried.

Yes, I got your PM, replied to you already.

Good to know Ecah and Elly are good with each other. Hissing a bit is just their way of telling each other their dislikes, quite normal hahaha.

Found this forum on glider Wheels.... Please read to be safe as I heard some of you guys(and also me) have problems where 2 gliders run in the same wodent wheel or gliders that run alot in the wheel. Apparently people had accidents with their wheels.

http://www.glidercentral.net/ubbthreads/ub...e_Wodent_Wheels

In the end, here is an explanation:
http://www.glidercentral.net/ubbthreads/ub...topics/643881/1

So the bar in the middle of the wheels(like wodent wheel), please put a safety guard like a piece of PVC pipe. It is explained in the 2nd link.

Added on September 27, 2008, 1:43 amYes, best is no grapes in a glider's diet as there may be some health problems later.

No... sadly no stealth wheel. Kalau bring in, hampir RM200 for 1 wheel.... price also scary LOL. I'm dreaming of a stealth wheel now hahahh.

So we must use our wodent wheels carefully. If you have gliders that like to run together in the wheel, best is to get another wheel for them.

So you get the pvc pipe thing to put on the crossbar in the middle. I also put one. Apparently with the pipe protecting the bar, it would be safer for their tails if things happen.
