Not rumours, they have made some changes to the 2009 semester structure. Check the academic calendar @ my.unsw for details. From my understanding, it's still a 12-weeks semester, but tuts only start on week 2, hence the last week would only have tuts but no lectures.

Good luck in the finals though.
*
I dont mind.As long as i get more study time for the finals.

Cant they change it back to 14 weeks? 12 weeks is too little time.

Yeah, at least they are giving us back our pre-2008 stuvac duration. But heck, they are only gonna start the new system in semester 2 =/

Well think of it this way, some changes is at least better than no changes at all, at least they are trying to improve it. Having that said, I reckon reverting back to 14-weeks semester would be unlikely to happen as most of the other Go8 unis have adopted the 12/13 weeks semester structure as far as I remember, so I doubt they would wanna be the only one adopting the 14-weeks system.
*
The thing is,i dont think the lecturers have enough time to teach.

Too many contents are out of syllabus now.

I'll probably need a dynamic elective or self study now.I dont think the stuff i learn now is enough for me.

Can anyone help me to calculate how much i basically need to pay for a year in UNSW?

https://my.unsw.edu.au/student/fees/TuitionFees.html

I got offered but it seems quite expensive. $535 X 24 uoc = 12840

2 sem a year  $12840 X 2 = $25680
convert into ringgit it would be around $25680 X 2.25 = RM57780

Is my calculation correct?

that's very expensive. I don't think i could afford it. Do we get any discount for being a malaysia citizen (commonwealth country)?

Added on October 29, 2008, 2:02 pmbtw, im interested in engineering course.
*
Yeah,you got it.It's correct.

No,you dont get any discount.

u used to work as a barista?? yea i think the coffee here is quite special since u need skill to make it....and u need the machine too!

anyway i think what pandamans trying to say is that its not all good and nice over here....there are alot of bad things bout Australia too...just that too many ppl from Msia has got the perception that its all 100% good here aka no corruption, no violence, no robbery / assault, no racism, no wasting of taxpayer money..... etc etc etc......

i think both countries has all of those....and its just up to the person itself to see which is the better of the bads....and i think by no means pandamans trying to attack australia but its jsut that he's trying to correct the typical msian perception of aus.....which i agree with him.....

and haya.....u said msian legalize rempits.....okay what about the aus govt giving monetary support aka doles to the lazy homeless, drunkards, druggies??? isn't that legalization and even promoting these bad stuffs?? and i think most of the assaults / robbery / house break-ins are caused by these group of ppl......

What ever is it,no country is perfect.

actually i prefer to transfer next semester.. as the schedule not so tight.. i can take my own sweet time to arrange it and also don't have to scare of the ambassador department to close at what what time..

but also.. the $$.. everything is damn expensive now.. cry.gif
*later "money not enough 3" casting by me..*

if i transfer 1 sem earlier, i have to pay around 100k.. but if i stay at sunway here.. i only have to pay around 30k..
that's huge amount.. and some more i have to consider of my brother as well.. he's studying in form 4 now.. going to form 5 next year.. and year after next.. COLLEGE.. which means... MONEY!!
*
If money pose a significant problem for you,i dont think it's a good idea for you to come to Aus to study then because even with the current low exchange rate,i dont think it will stay on this level for a long time.

well.. money is a problem for me in this case.. but i just don't want to spend too much of my parents money on myself.. that's why i'm  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  now.. difference of 100k is a big problem as 100k might be useful for my brother around 2 years.. and that time i already graduate and i can work and i can support my family so that my parents' burden not so heavy.. BTW, one of the reason i wanna study in Aus is because the salary there is higher than m'sia.. and i have my uncle staying over there already.. so i'm surely will go there and study.. its just time matter..
*
If you are worrying about that, then,i dont recommend you to go to Aus as you'll be worrying so much when you are spending huge amount of money here.I dont think you'll be happy if you are studying here and concerning about money at the same time.

I have a friend who is exactly the same as you.In the end,he's studying in Malaysia because he doesnt want to spend too much money from his parents, even the parents can support him.

Yeah, I can list to you (Meruchan) many many things that I dislike about this country and you'll be surprised how many things I actually hate.

And mind you I've only been here for 3.5 months. After 3.5 years I might just wish I never studied here laugh.gif

I'm not saying this to scare you but if you're coming here because you dislike Malaysia (and you're causing your parents a big burden), then don't bother.

Having said that, I also dislike Malaysia and I think I gave my parents quite a big burden but I came here because I have a goal, to study in the best engineering school in Australia (which is UNSW). And I have done that. flex.gif

Then I discovered that ... NOTHING IS BEST. laugh.gif
*
Yeah,i have a few things that i really hate about Australia.

The flies. doh.gif The internet. vmad.gif The lifestyle. yawn.gif Those are the 3 things that annoy me like hell.

The much lesser ones are:most of the locals, the price of ori game and electronics, food.

Still got more i think but Aus does seem like a better place to live.

Y hate the internet? The internet here is so much faster, ADSL2+ man, and abt the same price with malaysia streamyx (dun covert to RM please tongue.gif). But aft all, aus is still a better place to live though we cant run away from racism, it happens everywhere in the world but at least in aus, i dun face so many racism probs compare to msia. smile.gif
Get some repellent. smile.gif It will become worse when summer comes. hehe. laugh.gif
*
Yeah,it's fast but the thing that annoy me is the cap.If your home has some inconsiderate people who uses a lot of internet,it would be capped by the end of the month. The capped speed here is even worse than wireless broadband in Malaysia.

Yeah, u r rite, i hate the cap speed as well, nothing is unlimited here. hehe. But u can get the jumbo plan from TPG, 200GB a month, i bet u wont be able to finish it unless u guys r super heavy duty downloaders. tongue.gif
*
How much is the TPG 200GB connection a month?

I think it's either they upgrade the connection or i move out.

I cant stand people exceeding the cap every month and ruining my online gaming session.

well maybe i didnt say it properly but unless ur the one who are currently studying in this specific faculty and get this kinda remark from them and unless its your money that's on the line....its pertty easy for you to say....

so yes even u admitted that we are treated as cash cow....so back to the main argument point....so are we still treated equally then? locals and foreigners....not equal right? coz this whole issue came up when someone said EVERYONE is treated equal in Australia, and i said no....we are sorta like cash cows (i wouldn't say we ARE)...so is there still anything else that i miss?

and what i am saying is we are asking for the faculty to let us know what we are paying for and stuff, just like when you buy sth you would wanna know what you are paying for...unless yoour the kind who doesnt care coz of your bottomless piggybank...ah and now your putting words in my mouth? i didnt say that their education quality sucks and etc....
*
So,now, just that we are paying a few times more than them and we are not treated equal? We,as an international student in Australia had never paid any tax to the Australian government before we come here. Now,you expect the locals to use their money to fund our studies. It's ridiculous,IMO.If the tax payers are paying for us,then,it's not fair for them.

Personally,i dont mind. Not that i have infinity funds in my bank account. This is not our country and we are just merely passer by here. It's their country policy, nothing much we can do as an international students.

TPG's 200GB quota must be broken down to 60 + 140GB, but its off-peak period counts from 4am-9am, making the 140GB a practically a marketing gimmick.
*
How much are you paying for it?

Still,i dont mind.140GB is more than enough for me to torrent a few games.

My current connection only have 60GB.Mass downloaders can keep their downloads in off peak while i can play online on the peak.

For Dell laptops,if you gonna buy in Malaysia, remember to get the complete cover warranty. You probably need to add a couple hundred Ringgit. It covers the entire Asia Pacific so in case anything happen to your laptop, you just give a call to Dell and they will fix it for you.In my experience,i can get next day on site service in Malaysia while i only can get my laptop fixed in 2 days in Aus.

It would be much easier for you to get your laptop repaired because they send their technician to your house to fix the laptop on the spot. You dont have to carry your laptop to their service centre. This applies in both Malaysia and Australia.

Yeah,im also using a 3 years international warranty.

At least when it broke down (*touch wood),someone will come and fix it.
