hi guys,

i overclock my E8400 E0 to 4.05Ghz on EP45-UD3R with following setting:

9x450, Vcore set at 1.175v, cpuz shows 1.136
2x1GB GSkill PC6400 + 2x2GB Ballistix Tracer PC6400 @ 900mhz 5-5-5-15 2.0v

load line calibration is enabled. both C1E and EIST also enabled, the rest all default setting.

passed intel burn test, but the temperature is pretty worrying..
idle temp is around 50c, core temp around 60c.. load temp hike to 80c, core temp around 82c.. shocking.gif is there anything wrong with the temp? i don't feel comfortable with the temp lah (don't feels like running OCCT for hours with temperature that high..)

by the way, the cpu is cooled with Red Scorpion + TX-2 applied as per the suggestion here. closed case on CM Centurion 534+ with 2 12CM front in and 1 12cm rear out..

just to add on, the temp at stock speed is around 40c with core temp around 50c... sweat.gif comments and advises appreciated!

oik....... E8400 should not go such kinda high temp i thk.. hmm.gif  u use which software to take the reading, u make sure u try with diff software??
but tough to say too... 4000MHz u do.. shakehead.gif mayb need use WC kits... laugh.gif

hmm...quite hot but its IBT anyways and it depends on chip too..... some chip are hotter than others of the same model....

n just to tell u CM stock fan sucks big time... almost feel nothing even i put my hand on top of it  sweat.gif

and then, heat is affected by ur casing ventilation, cable management  in ur casing, environment temp and TIM spreading....

u might wana try run with half naked rig 1st to see if its the case ventilation that is giving the problem....check the temp margin between half naked and fully closed casing....

core temperature taken with SpeedFan 4.37, Core Temp 0.99.3 and Real Temp 2.70.

Real Temp 2.7 with TJ Max = 95c is giving lower temp reading compare to the other 2

by the way default vcore is giving even higher temp sweat.gif

anyway is +-4c temp margin between side panel opened and closed an indication of poor ventilation?

here's how it looks like inside my casing, green arrow is how the air supposed to flow, bolder green arrow is CM so called 90CFM fan

any suggestion to improve the ventilation??

you might want to read this thread http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/666785

basically intel's multi core CPU doesn't provide exact reading of the core temperature, it will only provide relative value to the TjMax (distance/delta to TjMax)

eg. say if the core give a reading of 40 to TjMax, depending on the value of TjMax the software is using, it will give different temp reading. RealTemp is using 95c TjMax for 45mm cpu, so it will report core temp of 55c (95c - 40)
CoreTemp and SpeedFan are using 100c for TjMax, thus give reading of 60c (100c - 40)

previously there were argument what's the actual TjMax of C2D/C2Q and different software is using different value but i think not long ago intel has just published the actual value which is 100c for 45mm cpu so CoreTemp and SpeedFan's reading is more accurate (correct me if i'm wrong)

you can actually adjust the TjMax of RealTemp as to provide more accurate temp reading, or you can just display the delta to TjMax to know how far away the temperature is still safe to go

forget CCF if you are going to use EP45-UD3 series, the heatsink around the CPU is blocking the bracket and the clip holder..

I never used CM's cooler so no comment on them.. from my own experience, Red Scorpion is just 3-5C away from TRUE
