Frozzbyte, I was on winpwn 1.1.4. I ahve done all the "set as new phone", just upgraded to FW2.0.2, hoping it will improve, but too bad it is still the same. My reason is being from the same place in my house, where it used to be receiving WIFI signal, I am losing or having really weak signal and quite often drop to using EDGE instead.
Anyway, it looks like I am hijacking the thread now by talking about my problem with FW2.0.x instead of allisonwoo. Hope he/she has solved her problem. This post has been edited by gpsp: Aug 29 2008, 08:24 PM |

I see her usage as someone who Is light and casual user. Even equipped with the free apps from Firmware 2.0, she'd be overwhelming herself. But to each his/her own, we've all extolled the virtue of our preferred firmware. It's up to her to decide.
Personally, I don't see a reason to stick with old other than familiarity and comfort zone. The 2.0.2 is plenty stable already and you add Cydia with Appstore, that's a potent mix. There is a few reason why Apple continued to provide better firmwares, namely bugfixes and stability. The only reason why I see all these instability coming from are the unlocking processes itself, Firmware 2.0.2 is plenty stable on it's own. Although the fact that the bulk of the regular guys here already moving to 2.0 and beyond must have accounted for something, otherwise people won't bother moving from 1.1.4 at all. String,
I dont think Apple is producing "better" firmware, start from FW2.0, it has been fixing old bugs and producing new bugs at the same time. Currently at 2.0.2, users found a security flaw and too many apps from Appstore will crash your iphone, Apple knew the problems and fixing the bug around the clock. This happened to not only unlock but also locked phone. If you have been thru the era of 1.0.2 to 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3 and 1.1.4, you will realise that the biggest improvement is on 1.1.2 in terms of speed and usability, and the most stable being 1.1.4. 1.1.4 is not "old" on iPhone2G, it is the final and last version, Fw2.0 is meant for iPhone3G (add new features for iPhone2G, but not improvement), as you can see 2.0.2 is a bug fix mainly for iPhone3G. Unless you are an iPhone3G users, for iPhone2G, preferable to stay in 1.1.4 until Apple release FW2.1 and above. Hope Apple dont end up like another M$. Thats the reason why I moved from Windoz Mobile/PPC to iPhone (Linux based). With the current lawsuit, http://www.internetnews.com/mobility/artic...suit+Widens.htm , Apple better buckle up. If not, Android phone (HTC will the first to use end of this year) will be the next replacement for my iPhone. This post has been edited by gpsp: Aug 29 2008, 10:55 PM |

Here you go again. On and on with fw 2.0.x dislike. I'm on fw 2.0.1 and i have no problems at all. As stable as fw 1.1.4. I have alot more going for me on fw 2.0.1 than you ever know. Also, since you mentioned Apple won't be producing "better" firmwares, please don't upgrade at all and even fw 2.1 as every fw does not favor you. So chill bro and keep to your fw 1.1.4 as you favor it to be the king of the mountain. Again, this thread is to help Allisonwoo. So let's keep it that way. Cheers |

Maybe you can open a thread on 1.1.4 vs 2.0.X so we can discuss it in a mature way (so no flaming there ok). This can be an insight for others whether to stay at 1.1.4 or upgrade to 2.0.X. We can also discuss your problem with your wifi. 2.0.X is not at fault as I can see people using 1.1.X also having this. @allisonwoo I've encountered the "phone need repair" situation last time when i left the phone not in sleep mode for the whole night. Maybe it was overheating or something but a normal reboot solve my problem. As for you, you can try restoring back to 1.1.4 or like other suggest, since you are restoring the phone, why not thry the new FW instead. Its just a suggestion from others and like david said, the ball is in your court. Whatever you do or decide, in the end the phone is still your phone. p/s - software upgrades are not perfect, so as the programmers that made it. Sure they patch up an old bug but unwittingly open another one, thats part n parcel of doing programming. I know as I myself is a programmer (part timer). There's no peice of software in this world that is bug free. |
