My advice, stay at 1.1.4 is the best option now, since Apple is releasing new FW next month. Be patience and wait. Not much advantage upgrading to 2.0.x if you dont need push email and exchange mail support. BTW, the WIFI reception on 2.0.x is pretty bad as compared to 1.1.4

Where did u get the facts that "WIFI reception on 2.0.X is pretty bad as compared to 1.1.4"?

I don't see any degradation in the WIFI signal going from 1.1.4 to 2.0.X. Maybe you can point us to the source of your claim?

FW2.0.X is not only for push email and echange support. There are other features included in the FW such as AppSupport which is the most obvious one.
@allisonwoo
It's up to you to upgrade to which firmware. Each firmware got its own pros n cons. FW1.1.4 still have lots of apps thats usefull but now most of the dev are abandoning 1.1.4 apps to port to Cydia 2/Installer 4 for FW2.0.X. FW2.0.X don't have the MMS, SMS Fowarding, etc apps from Installer/Cydia but they will be slowly ported later. FW2.0.X also include apple own installer called AppStore where u can install/download free and paid apps.

It's true that another firmware upgrade is just around the corner but in the end it you that's gonna make the decission.

I am currently on 2.0.2, upgraded from 1.1.x to 2.0 to 2.0.1. It happened on all 2 of my iphone 8GB/16GB (one specially for work/call only, and one for personal) , check out hackint0sh and there are others with similar issues.

This is one of them

There is nothing wrong with upgrading to FW2.0.x, what I have said is there will be a new FW upgrade in Sept, that I adviced allisonwoo to wait for the new version. It all depends on what kind of iphone users he/she is, there are many users that used the iphone mainly for call and email, and there are those who like to experience with new features e.g. Appstore. So I am assuming that allison is a new user for iPhone and advice him/her to stay at 1.1.4, and believe it or not, it is currently the most stable firmware version at the moment.

Having the error (repair needed) doesnt mean you need to upgrade the FW2.0.x. I have experience the error before on 1.1.4 (once), and at that time FW2.0 is not even out yet, so restore is the only option and that solve my problem. So why do you think fw2.0 will solve his/her problem? The easiest option from me to him/her is to restore the phone back to his/her current firmware(1.1.4) and jailbreak/unlock with iPlus2.0. PWN, WinPWN and other options might be too difficult/tedious for him/her if he/she is a new iPhone user who use the phone mainly to make/receive call/sms, email and internet brownsing. Well, it is also easy for others just ask to upgrade to new FW whenever there is problem with current FW, but in iPhone case, it is due to the fact that Apple is adding more features for the coorporate users (where the money is coming from), e.g exchange mail and push mail, as for Appstore, it is a platform for official 3rd party developers to build software/game apps for the iphone (again the profit). So if you are using this mainly for call/sms, why the rush to fw2.0.x? Sorry if my statement offense any senior LYN members, but FW2.0.x does give me some problems and some of us do think 1.1.4 is more stable.

Cheers.

Frozzbyte, I was on winpwn 1.1.4. I ahve done all the "set as new phone", just upgraded to FW2.0.2, hoping it will improve, but too bad it is still the same. My reason is being from the same place in my house, where it used to be receiving WIFI signal, I am losing or having really weak signal and quite often drop to using EDGE instead.

Anyway, it looks like I am hijacking the thread now by talking about my problem with FW2.0.x instead of allisonwoo. Hope he/she has solved her problem.

String,

I dont think Apple is producing "better" firmware, start from FW2.0, it has been fixing old bugs and producing new bugs at the same time. Currently at 2.0.2, users found a security flaw and too many apps from Appstore will crash your iphone, Apple knew the problems and fixing the bug around the clock. This happened to not only unlock but also locked phone. If you have been thru the era of 1.0.2 to 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3 and 1.1.4, you will realise that the biggest improvement is on 1.1.2 in terms of speed and usability, and the most stable being 1.1.4. 1.1.4 is not "old" on iPhone2G, it is the final and last version, Fw2.0 is meant for iPhone3G (add new features for iPhone2G, but not improvement), as you can see 2.0.2 is a bug fix mainly for iPhone3G. Unless you are an iPhone3G users, for iPhone2G, preferable to stay in 1.1.4 until Apple release FW2.1 and above. Hope Apple dont end up like another M$. Thats the reason why I moved from Windoz Mobile/PPC to iPhone (Linux based).

With the current lawsuit, http://www.internetnews.com/mobility/artic...suit+Widens.htm , Apple better buckle up. If not, Android phone (HTC will the first to use end of this year) will be the next replacement for my iPhone.
