What's your firmware at the moment allison? Maybe an upgrade of firmware might help.

Sure you can but be very careful and do follow closely to the guide posted under -=[ iPhone JB Links ]=-. Here is the link.

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/768477

If you can hold on for a little while, winpwn 2.5 will be available soon as this software will help you to do the upgrade easier.

Winpwn 2.0.0.4 is a software to help you upgrade your firmware to 2.0.1 including jailbreaking and unlocking your phone.

Just follow the guide closely and find more reference before you attempt upgrading.

Just becareful of the DFU part. It may look simple but it can be pretty tricky.

Do make sure you know and study the steps given just for safety sake.

*(Just my opinion) i recommend that you stay with your current fw 1.1.4 and wait out for winpwn 2.5.

Cheers

My advice, stay at 1.1.4 is the best option now, since Apple is releasing new FW next month. Be patience and wait. Not much advantage upgrading to 2.0.x if you dont need push email and exchange mail support. BTW, the WIFI reception on 2.0.x is pretty bad as compared to 1.1.4

Why is your wifi having problems? My wifi is doing super well with fw 2.0.1 and also at 1.1.4 previously. No problems at all.

Where did u get the facts that "WIFI reception on 2.0.X is pretty bad as compared to 1.1.4"?

I don't see any degradation in the WIFI signal going from 1.1.4 to 2.0.X. Maybe you can point us to the source of your claim?

FW2.0.X is not only for push email and echange support. There are other features included in the FW such as AppSupport which is the most obvious one.

@allisonwoo
It's up to you to upgrade to which firmware. Each firmware got its own pros n cons. FW1.1.4 still have lots of apps thats usefull but now most of the dev are abandoning 1.1.4 apps to port to Cydia 2/Installer 4 for FW2.0.X. FW2.0.X don't have the MMS, SMS Fowarding, etc apps from Installer/Cydia but they will be slowly ported later. FW2.0.X also include apple own installer called AppStore where u can install/download free and paid apps.

It's true that another firmware upgrade is just around the corner but in the end it you that's gonna make the decission.

I am currently on 2.0.2, upgraded from 1.1.x to 2.0 to 2.0.1. It happened on all 2 of my iphone 8GB/16GB (one specially for work/call only, and one for personal) , check out hackint0sh and there are others with similar issues.

This is one of them
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread...&highlight=wifi

There is nothing wrong with upgrading to FW2.0.x, what I have said is there will be a new FW upgrade in Sept, that I adviced allisonwoo to wait for the new version. It all depends on what kind of iphone users he/she is, there are many users that used the iphone mainly for call and email, and there are those who like to experience with new features e.g. Appstore. So I am assuming that allison is a new user for iPhone and advice him/her to stay at 1.1.4, and believe it or not, it is currently the most stable firmware version at the moment.

What method did u use to unlock the phone when it was 1.1.X last time?

Added on August 29, 2008, 2:51 amAnd did u restore the phone from itunes backup after each restore or set as new phone?

From what i've read in the forum that you gave, it's not the fw2.0.X thats causing the havoc with wifi, its something else. If its the fw then there would be tons of complaints here. Right now most of the people that i see, talk, chat or pm does not have any problem with their wifi except for you. Maybe its a different case with your phone. Hope its nothing serious or hardware malfunction.

Wouldnt it be prudent for the TS to upgrade to Firmware 2.0.X since she is experiencing problems with the iPhone and its prompting of the need to be repaired? It is easy for anyone to say to "hold off upgrading because there is a new firmware around the corner", but you dont get her point. She is pretty much in dire straits now since her iPhone is popping up messages to ask itself to be repaired.........and Firmware 2.0.x may do just that. Why ask her to wait even longer while the iPhone is already breathing out of the tubes in ICU?

Having the error (repair needed) doesnt mean you need to upgrade the FW2.0.x. I have experience the error before on 1.1.4 (once), and at that time FW2.0 is not even out yet, so restore is the only option and that solve my problem. So why do you think fw2.0 will solve his/her problem? The easiest option from me to him/her is to restore the phone back to his/her current firmware(1.1.4) and jailbreak/unlock with iPlus2.0. PWN, WinPWN and other options might be too difficult/tedious for him/her if he/she is a new iPhone user who use the phone mainly to make/receive call/sms, email and internet brownsing. Well, it is also easy for others just ask to upgrade to new FW whenever there is problem with current FW, but in iPhone case, it is due to the fact that Apple is adding more features for the coorporate users (where the money is coming from), e.g exchange mail and push mail, as for Appstore, it is a platform for official 3rd party developers to build software/game apps for the iphone (again the profit). So if you are using this mainly for call/sms, why the rush to fw2.0.x? Sorry if my statement offense any senior LYN members, but FW2.0.x does give me some problems and some of us do think 1.1.4 is more stable.

Cheers.

We all have our "reasons" but it's up to Allisonwoo to decide. If she wants to stay at fw 1.1.4 or upgrade to fw 2.0.1, so be it.

Allisonwoo, the ball is at your court.

Whichever firmware you decide to go with, we're all happy go lucky. icon_rolleyes.gif

Cheers
