there's this belief that ATi cards produce better colours than Nvidia

moreover ATi's UVD offers excellent support for HD videos compared to Nvidia's PureVideo 2

thus for a multimedia notebook (read: not gaming), HD 3670 is a pretty good choice imho

not for core 2 duo, especially laptops...

the bottleneck is at the FSB...

though DDR3 works at lower voltage compared to DDR2, thus should save a bit of power...

so the speed is slight increase and the power draining is slightly  lower?am i correct?

but for speed, i dun think u'll even notice it if there is...

I believe that the use of ddr3 should be put into consideration as ddr3 does make alot of difference. Most ddr2 laptops have 667 rams or at most 800 rams. Only certain laptops like the M1730 has 1067 ddr2. Ram performance between 800 MHz & 1067MHz is very far apart. Another plus to this is that ddr3 is able to give that performance without using much power, typically a ddr3 ram will use 1.7 or 1.8 volts. whereas a ddr2 ram would use more than 2 volts.
*
iirc, DDR2 works at 1.8V...

DDR3, the lowest i ve seen should be 1.5V...

comparing the 2, u should be able to squeeze a dozen more minutes from the battery...

and yes, like 22 said, the CPU is the biggest bottle neck in a system...

even if u use RAM of 533MHz (for Monti platform), u won't notice much difference compared to 1066MHz or 1333MHz...

still bottleneck if the CPU offer 1066 FSB?
*
even Core 2 Extreme, 1600MHz FSB, also a bottleneck...

that's the main reason y AMD always win when comes to memory, and that's y Intel dumped FSB and use QPI instead...

Why?u think s57 is better compared to dell too?haha...

spec wise... S57 clear winner...

design wise, SXPS16 wins...

If you're talking about specifications and not price point, it's debatable.

CPU options:
BENQ - Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz/ 1066 FSB/ 3MB Cache)
DELL - Including and up to Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9800 (2.93GHz/ 1066 FSB/ 6MB Cache) **

RAM options:
BENQ - Up to max 4GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM
DELL - Up to max 8GB Dual Channel 1067MHz DDR3 SDRAM **

HDD options:
BENQ - 250/320/500 GB (5400RPM - SATA)
DELL - 320/500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive & 128GB SSD **

GPU options:
BENQ - ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4650 **
DELL - ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3670

WIFI options:
BENQ - Intel® WiFi Link 5100
DELL - Including and up to Intel® WiFi Link 5300 **

Screen options:
BENQ - 15.6" WXGA (1366x768), 16:9 LED backlight, UltraVivid widescreen display with 220nits, Response Time:8ms **
DELL - 16" 1080p WUXGA (1920x1080)**, 16:9 RGBLED Full HD Display**, average 232.1nits**, Response time: ?

Audio & Mic options:
BENQ - Built-in 2.0W speaker x2 + Built-in Microphone x1
DELL - 7 Watt Integrated Stereo Speakers with Subwoofer + Dual Digital Array Microphones **

Dell Studio XPS 16 can be customized to a powerful machine and in many aspects even better than BENQ Joybook s57; the only thing the s57 win hands down is the GPU, that makes the s57 a boon for casual gamers. BENQ Joybook s57 is a good notebook, I'm not saying otherwise.
For price point, that's a different story. There's always a reason why you pay more for the Studio XPS 16, the technology implemented in this notebook are more advanced plus the leather etc.
*
correction:
1) PM45 supports 8GB DDR2 as well... i dunno why OEMs like to put max 4GB only... (in fact, even the older PM965 chipset also)

however, some of the pts are debatable as well...

1) C2D T9000 series... a 35W CPU... meaning less battery life compared to the slight (but hardly noticable) weaker P8000 series (25W)
2) DDR3 brings no significant performance gain comapred to DDR2 besides the lower working voltage (1.5/1.6V VS 1.8V). that itself, imho, does not justify the extra cost
3) Wireless WiFi Link 5300, spec wise it's indeed better than 5100 (max 450Mbps vs max 300Mbps), but u need a compatible Draft-N router in order to schieve that speed... most Draft-N router are stil working at 300Mbps...
4) Speakers... on paper the audio system of SXPS16 looks nice... but compared to a set of rm100 multimedia speaker system, it's nothing to boast abt...

i am not saying all these are redundant... it's all up to the user's choice... do away with all these, and SXPS16 is a nice machine to buy, aespecially with Dell's excellent service...

i ve been hunting for laptops lately, and SXPS is on my list as well... if not for a better choice (Asus N81Vp), i would ve probably grabbed SXPS...

Personally I don't like tinkering with voltage and clock speeds that are out of the manufacturer's recommended values. Forcing the CPU/RAM etc to work harder (overclocking/increase the voltage) or not giving enough voltage or underclocking will cause system instability.

This is a crap analogy, so don't take it too seriously: overclocking = pushing yourself too hard during a marathon; undervolting = eat small portions even though you're hungry enough to literally devour a cow. Both these situations are not healthy, it's somewhat similar to notebooks as well.
*
C2D are known to be good OC even if u undervolt...

for mobile C2D, u can actually undervolt quite an amount before it becomes unstable... tried and tested on my T7100 before...

but of course, pls know wat u re doing when u undervolt, and do comprehensive stress test before self-declare the voltage is enough for the CPU to work without any problems...

well. erm. for lowyat retailer. don't buy from JustPC or the one at the entrance. They're not professional and not honest.

Hmm. Just a lil' question here, if compare gaming performance, Studio 1555 with HD 4570 and Studio XPS 16 with HD 3670, who wins?
*
3D mark 06 wise, 3650 should be abt 5k+ (if using GDDR3), 4570 should be less than 4k...

According to notebookcheck, ATI Mobility Radeon HD3650 only scored in the region of 4k+ on standard 3DMark06 benchmark. Only when OCed can achieve >5k points according to notebookreview forum

http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-...650.8839.0.html
*
3D Mark 06 has a lot of uncertainties...

CPU being 1...

anyway, 4k+ is still acceptable... considering that 9600M GT scores in this range as well...

maybe it'll be release the second half of the year.. too bad for the rest of us who gotten the sxps16 earlier on... the diff between hd3670 with hd 4670 is around 3k points according to 3d mark06... but i wonder how much heat will the more powerful gpu produce since the hd3670 already producing significant heat ...
*
HD 4650... on BenQ S57 it scores abt 7k 3D Mark 06...

Actually i like more dell xps studio 13 compare to xps studio 16, i hate wide monitor!!!!!!!!!

I am wondering y would dell make studio xps, sounds like a hybrid of xps and studio...
I like more xps, the matter i am not going to buy xps is because xps dun have ddr3 ram...

When would dell implement ddr3 ram in xps?????
*
that's becuz Dell has Alienware, and the market for both XPS and Alienware are too close...

now Dell will formally bring in Alienware as part of Dell, not as a separate company...

so Studio XPS is needed to fill the lower and middle end of XPS, while Alienware take the high end market...

and juz for ur info, another name for Alienware laptops is XPS Extreme...
