QUOTE(zio @ Sep 24 2008, 10:01 PM) Constant aperture lens ftw! So i am assuming darth will soon go the way of D90 body with Tamron lens as well Still thinking on the lens. A little tired of the 17-50 range, plus the 50 is covered by the 50mm f1.8. Liked the 28-70 Nikon a whole lot... 24-70 would be even better and Siggy just released theirs with HSM so still deep in thought. I like the 18-105 range but absolutely dislike the variable aperture. Horrible for indoor events in my experience.

QUOTE(illegaldragon87 @ Sep 26 2008, 05:04 PM) hi, a noob ques here... i heard tat not all of the nikkor lens is suitable for D40 as it dun have AF-motor... so, how can i kno which lens is suitable n which is not?? n can any1 suggest me which lens is suitable for macro shot?? thanx... Any Nikon lens that is not labeled "AF-S" won't auto-focus with the D40. Anything that is labeled "Macro" or "Micro" lens is suitable for macro.

QUOTE(zio @ Sep 26 2008, 09:18 PM) Yep boleh lawan lawan Good news for D40/x/60 users.. soon you will be able to use the much talked about Tokina lenses: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0809/08092403tokina.aspThey are finally adding in AF motors and the first to get it is the 12-24mm f4. Hopefully the 11-16mm f2.8 will follow soon. Very soon I will come to a point where I don't care motor or no motor......

QUOTE(hungryjack82 @ Sep 28 2008, 04:06 PM) another D60 user signs in.... quite of regret... should wait until D90 come out... sigh.. Grats on your purchase. If you have the extra budget you can always sell off the D60 and buy the D90. But no worries... the D60 is a fun camera to play with in the meantime.

QUOTE(alexender @ Oct 5 2008, 05:06 AM) I'm planning to get my first dslr soon with a very tight budget, D60. i also plan to buy an additional lens, a nikkor 50mm f1.8. I that heard it took great pictures. Even though it cant auto focus using D60. Is it worth it if i buy that lens? or should i wait until AF-S version come out? The 50mm f1.8 is great for its price. And Manual Focus is not difficult to learn, and if you don't mind it, go for it. However, I don't think the 50mm f1.8 is going to be refreshed anytime soon... Nikon just refreshed the 50mm f1.4 to AF-S, and I feel that there are many more primes due to be refreshed before the 50mm f1.8. Then again, I might be wrong.... Alternatively, D80 body-only is at 2k now, you can just get that and the 50mm and have lots of fun!

QUOTE(avantgardeo @ Oct 6 2008, 11:50 PM) I have some questions and I hope I'm in the right thread. I'm considering getting either a D40 or a D60 but I'm not sure if either of them will work with the one and only AF lens that i have- an old Tamron 28-200 3.8-5.6 LD (IF). I know if I'm getting one of those cameras I'll get it with the kit lens, but if it works with my old lens, it will be an added bonus.
Do you guys have any idea? I believe the lens is more than 10 years old. It's given to me by my uncle.
I don't care if it will autofocus or not. I just need to know whether or not it will meter with it. Thanks. Well you can find all over the internet articles on which Nikon lenses will meter on which particular models, but they don't mention anything about the third party lenses. Your best bet would be to head to a large store that has the D60 and test them out. I do not know of any store that holds the D40 in stock except prolly YL in Pudu Plaza. The beauty about Nikon is that old lenses still work on the newer cameras cause the mounting is the same now as before.

QUOTE(avantgardeo @ Oct 7 2008, 12:07 AM) I've been googling it and the only result that comes close is a forum thread from years ago about someone asking if the lens works on the D70. I think this lens is just too old for the internet generation to have seen it. From the thread I found out that these lenses may work on these DX format cameras but the zoom length will be increased by some distance. They will work fine with full-framed cameras though. I guess I just have to test it out with a live unit. Thanks for the replies. For DX format cameras (Cropped sensor like the D60 example), you need to multiply it by 1.5x. Meaning you'll get 42mm - 300mm actual. It still works fine.

QUOTE(zio @ Oct 13 2008, 02:39 PM) That I am also not sure. Pertama probably can take KTM and walk there. Pudu, tak tahu And for D40/x/60 users who have been eyeing the Tamron SP90, more good news for you: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0809/08090205tamron_AF90mm.aspWahsai... tough le... finding Pudu Plaza is like digging for gold in the middle of a desert. Not to mention the 3 second traffic lights, GPS that gives wrong directions and mobs who camp in the shop. Easiest to go is still J-One la... take LRT sampai Amcorp Mall station, get down, walk in... taaadaaa!!!!

QUOTE(Darkcursed @ Oct 13 2008, 05:16 PM) guys, hmm, shooting with my d40 all these long, recently starting to felt it does not satisfied my need, felt it was so tiny my aim was d300 jump but it was way too out of my budget already, yesterday kena poison by full frame camera, fuiyoo, dam nice man should i consider upgrade d80 or buying a AF-S 50mm f1.4 instead? "Feels so tiny" is definitely a new reason that I've come across. And Full Frame Camera is a lot more expensive than the D300. If you can find a specific reason to justify the upgrade to the D80, or to buy the AF-S 50mm f1.4, then go for it... just don't upgrade for the sake of upgrading.
