So may i know what is Amax strategy? Are they going to expand coverage from Makhota or just stop there now?
BTW, how many KM can be covered by one Amax tower?
*
this is a good question~ very subjective too~ generally the ability to transmit depends on signal strength which relies on the transmitter type, the angle which is it delivers (can be 60% bi-directional or up to 360% omni-directional), and the interference which may happen (very small possibility as the spectrum used by Amax is licensed)

small issues~ i'm not a tele engineer so I am not knowledgeable in technical details~ don't think there is any other issue except for health~above the range of 5GHz and at close range of about 10cm for more than 30mins to a satellite dish will anyone be exposed to radiation~ Wimax is using 2.3Ghz~

the range from one end to another in TTDI is approximately 6.8km (can't use radius to calculate this as the area is not completely omnidirectional, proper areas have been selected)~ radius wise in Taman University, PJ it's about 1.6km radius~

source : Amax coverage <- click here

how about a comparison with P1? I can't be biased as I am a P1 reseller anyway~

P1 is agressive, now available in Alor Setar (Kedah), Penang, Kuala Terengganu (Terengganu), Ipoh (Perak), Kuantan (Pahang), Tampin (NS), JB (Johor), KL

the range from one end to another in Tampin where there is no overlapping is 4km~ radius in Seri Hartamas is about 0.8km~

source : P1 Coverage <- click here

the above numbers are based on single communication tower capability with the assumptions of my ruler being accurate, the websites posting accurate coverages, similar transmitters used of each provider~

AMAX's been really bad this past week for me. Very, very slow browsing, high latency, and failed uploads. During speedtest, download yo-yos up and down very, very wildly, often ending up below 500kbps (I'm subscribed to their 1.5Mbps package); and upload...stuck...

Raki, I'd like to help~ would you provide a short summary so that I can pass it to my boss?
*
Actually, my definition of night is around midnight ... sorry for the confusion.

But I do have a problem with my RF signal, my CINR at my place is around 13-16 but mostly i get is 14... I actually know the problem is the little hill in front my room thats causing the interference. During the day, i can go around 50-100KB/s but mostly is at late nights that i can achieve 150KB/s on torrent. But the biggest headache i have with amax that everytime i visit a different website, amax changes my IP... this feels like amax is load balancing multiple WAN links. this is causing when ever i visit a new website, amax routes me to another link with a different IP than the previous IP that I used a few moments ago

CORRECTION: its was not rssi but CINR

woohoo...my AMAX is back to full speed. Faulty CPE apparently. The tech guy came the same day I complained. I like the fact how AMAX actually investigates without first asking me to restart my PC or disconnect the modem!

I'm interested in signing up for the Amax WiMax RM60/month student package. I live in Section 17, PJ, and I've checked their website that my area is under coverage. I currently having some questions and hoping someone (reseller or experienced users) could answer them for me smile.gif

1) I've sent my registration at the website last Saturday, and they called my this morning and we've make an appointment at tomorrow morning for their technicians to come over my place to test the connection. How is the registration process goes? Do I need to pay for the installation fee (RM80)? Anyone can list out all the related fees as I can't find any proper information at the website?

2) I've seen some users claims that the USB modem could hardly receive the signal indoor. Is that true? Because I plan to use it mostly in my house.

3) A lot of users complain that the ip address keep on changing. Can anyone explain about this?

4) If I sign up for the 7-day trial and terminate it within the trial period, do I get FULL REFUND of what I've paid upon registration? Because I had just been conned by P1 reseller for it!

5) Anyone at my area (PJ Section 17) using Amax now? How's the overall performance? Any comments?

Thanks in advance and looking forward for somebody to answer my questions!

1) there is a better choice than going registering with technicians, they do charge more than resellers! customer is always right, you can say no and take the 7-days trial first to test

2) that is true for all wireless connections in Malaysia, u have to be in the range to receive signal

3) ip address keep changing for website viewing, Amax is aware of this for a while and they're coming up with new plans but no implementation yet

4) yes, FULL REFUND in 2 weeks~ everyone here can tell u the same old story of Maxis charging RM200 for 7 days trial back in Feb09 and P1 is doing it the same, giving back only half of the deposit when u return 7 days trial~

5) I can go over to your place for demo and even provide u student package 7 days trial, just pay RM60 and we'll refund the full RM60 if u return it within 7 days~ get a sister or a brother's IC and student card to register also can~

Thanks for the fast reply rclxms.gif

As what you said in (1), you mean if I registering with technicians, they do charge me the RM80 installation fee? And if I request you come my place and do the demo, you do not charge for it? And only pay for the Rm60? I'm wondering how the registration process goes... So what you suggest me to do since I've already make the appointment that technician will come over my place to test. hmm.gif

appointment is nothing, customers are always right~ just make a call and cancel appointment, simple~ i come over to your place ready with 7days trial for u, demo for u, do ping test, speedtest, whatever test~ up to your liking~

at the end of the day, whether Amax is suitable or not, I will still provide free consultation based on my experience with Streamyx, Celcom, P1, SentralFon~ it's not only 1 choice~

Check the channel & frequency in the Wimax Status page. The CPE normally chooses the channel & frequency of the strongest signal it can find depending on your location from the base station but sometimes the CPE switches to another channel & frequency that has a weaker signal or no signal and the Wimax Status changes from AWAKE(OK) to PKM-NETRANGING(Not OK) or worse. This may cause websites to load very slowly or not load at all. Usually, the CPE corrects this on its own after the Wimax Status page refreshes a few times or you could reset your LAN and/or restart the CPE to see if it solves the problem. If you keep getting the weaker channel & frequency after more than 15 minutes, then you better call AMAX to report the problem.
