Where do I find karate schools?

Preferably the closest to SS 2.

QUOTE(jurusilat @ Feb 22 2009, 10:51 PM)
There's one in SS2 (same row as the PJ Speech & Drama school).

Which stail will u learn ? I'm doing Shito Ryu Seishinkai (5th Kyu) in Nagaoka Japan ..

Just to share .. The term "karate" refers to an empty-hand striking system that can trace its roots back to Okinawa.

Shotokan is known for deep stances and linear, lunging movements.

Kyokushin is known for its full-contact sparring, which allows full-powered punches to the body and pull-powered kicks to the legs, body and head.

Wado-Ryu is known for combining some jujitsu locks and throws with the stances and strikes of karate.

Goju-Ryu is known for close-ranged fighting that includes grasping motions.

Isshin-Ryu is known for short, snappy punches and kicks, punching with the thumb-up (vertical) fist position instead of the palm-down (horizontal) fist position, and blocking with the meaty part of the arm, instead of the bone, like most other systems.

Shito-Ryu is known for its wide syllabus of kata, or empty-handed, dance-like forms.

Uechi-Ryu is similar to Goju-Ryu, but uses more spearing strikes with the fingertips or extended knuckles.

Shorin-Ryu is similar to Shotokan, except that it's more upright and uses more "natural" stances.

Im 40+ years old and weigh 100 kgs. what martial art should be safe for me ? should i take wing chun which is more towards hand combat or should i take aikido? im also thinking of krav maga.. my objective is to lose weight and self defense on street fighting. thank u guys.

What actually u want? To answer this, i suggest try all the option b4 u make a decision what u want to learn ..
All above is about dedication n passion ..
To lose weight, (i also 105 kg from 120 kg) .. doing only martial art is not enough .. i'm now counting calories + exercise + martial art ..
For self defense, all martial art is good, but the fighter itself will make it look better ..
As for me, I'm doing Shito Ryu Karate (5Kyu)and Aikikai Aikido (5Kyu).. Karate for attacking while Aikido to defense.
Here in Japan, 1 person usually will learn at least 2 martial art, or maybe 3.
For example Shihan Thamby Rajah (Father of Aikido Malaysia), came to Japan in 1950 and learn Judo, Karate n Aikido and managed to hold Kuro Obi (Black Belt) for all disiplines ..

If u want to try Aikido, I suggest Sensei Ramlan (5 Dan) dojo in Sri Kembangan

Good Luck bro!!

Greetings! Could anyone recommend a dojo/gym that nearby Ampang or Maluri? I'm willing to try anything new!

Aims for self-improvement in both physical and mental aspect. Would prefer practice something that not focus on the intention of striking killing blow and injuring others tongue.gif

I had a little experience with Aikido and I liked it, however it lacks the body conditioning that Kung Fu that I practiced back in UK

Is there anything that I'm not aware of that practitioners here could recommend?

Hi everybody! I`m master and instructor in martial arts, not long ago I came to Malaysia and would like to continue my coaching career here. Does anybody knows any sport clubs in TTDI district where I can teach martial arts or it is better to go with private lessons?

I'm curious where can I find a place teaching Karate nearby LRT stations and have pretty flexible time table?

Already holder of a brown belt, waiting to complete the entire syllabus due to some unfortunate incident last time around.

Thanks.

$ no object, one on one training with military grade TKD. Train like your life depended on it laugh.gif

Otherwise its silat with some knife work and muay thai just for the kicks.

lose weight = eat less + work hard ... easier said then done. Malaysian number one hobby = FOOD brows.gif

Self defence on the street, no such thing. Its 99% attack. The number of things wack jobs can pull on you is amazing.

I found 2 earlier in some post, but then again, it looked weird with zero to no details to establish contact.

I'm from Shorin-ryu, I daresay.

Welcome to the anals of /k.

You should reach out to your sensei . Karate in MAL is heavily politicised. Which is sad.
