I called 1800-ASKGODWHY-606, but no one answered. I guess he was busy pardoning the innocent souls lost in Gaza, peace be upon them. Will try again when the time is right.

Like Mike loves to say, "They are always communal, until they are not." You may want to consider solitary setups for the remainding liocheles. They do much better that way.

They are generally harmless opalish. Notice how loosely the word 'generally' is applied in the sentence? Lol! Mites are generally harmless, unless and until they take over your scorpion and start sucking the life out of it, literally.

Captain Mite: "Slurp slurp, yum..juicy scorpion. Captain Mite to Base, juicy scorpion in sight, send in the paratroopers! Over!"
General Mite: "Base to Captain Mite. Well done!"
Captain Mite: "Thank you chief!"
General Mite: "Don't thank me, I'm not gay!...shhhh..." line goes silent for three friggin long minutes.
General Mite: "Paratroopers, we've got breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next month ready. Move in! TORA TORA TORAAA!!!"
Minion Mites: "Weeeeeeeeiiiioouuuu(the sound they make while lunging at the poor scorpion)...slurp slurp"
Minion Mites: "EVERY WHERE WE GOO, PEOPLE WANNA KNOWW. WHO WE ARE, WE ARE THE MITES MIGHTY MIGHTY MITES!!"

Pardon me for that. Happy Thaipusam. innocent.gif

yes,may be there is some question out there which you dont really like, why dont u just leave it there?u are not forced to reply mate.
im not starting any flame here, just let us feel free to ask anyhting about scorpion,as long as we are not off topic...
and this this the main perpous of why such thread exist,to share and to discuss.

i do agree with wat u say, but at least ppl shouldnt ask those basic things like will my scorp if die din eat 3 days or will i die if my afs sting me, why my afs dont want eat after moult, if ppl really do have the heart and interest ppl should take the time to go to uncle google and make a simple search then laze around and posting in lowyat and wait for ppl to answer, like u said this is a place to share and discuss about scorpions not ask ridiculous questions

why people tend to ask 'easy questions' is that from reading it online you cant really get a feel or reply from the writer. it mayb that these people write such thing but in real time they dont own a scorpion etc... so by asking on here they can get their answer fast. and those questions can lead to many2 discussions. so i think we all should think before writing something in here. it may insult others although we dont tend to...

imho, reading online actually gives u a more accurate answers when it comes to basic questions, for example like asking, will my scorp die after not eating 3 days?

answer from forumers: most used is, it wont die, scorpc can go on without eating for weeks or enev months, etc.

but if u read a basic care sheet it will be stated very clearly that scorpions can last weeks or even months without food, now isn't that easier

Added on February 8, 2009, 11:49 pmhi guys ...

i am surfing thru the net when i came across this ..
some interesting facts ...

Reproduction
Most scorpions reproduce sexually, and most species have male and female individuals. However, some species, such as Hottentotta hottentotta, Hottentotta caboverdensis, Liocheles australasiae, Tityus columbianus, Tityus metuendus, Tityus serrulatus, Tityus stigmurus, Tityus trivittatus, and Tityus urugayensis, reproduce through parthenogenesis, a process in which unfertilized eggs develop into living embryos. Parthenogenic reproduction starts following the scorpion's final moult to maturity and continues thereafter.

Sexual reproduction is accomplished by the transfer of a spermatophore from the male to the female; scorpions possess a complex courtship and mating ritual to effect this transfer. Mating starts with the male and female locating and identifying each other using a mixture of pheromones and vibrational communication.. Once they have satisfied each other that they are of opposite sex and of the correct species, mating can commence.

one question in mind ... does these parthenogenesis species need to mate at least once with a male and then therferafter a male is no longer need for reproduction or totally can reproduce without a need for a male at all????

dun really understand the above mention stated from the internet .... doh.gif

Do a little more reading on taxos of the Hottentotta species and you'll find that Hottentotta caboverdensis = Hottentotta hottentotta. They are the same species. Hottentotta hottentotta is the older name for Hottentotta caboverdensis. smile.gif

The name has been revised some time in 2006. But most literature on the net still cites them as Hottentotta hottentotta. No big impact there for hobbyists like us, but just to avoid complications, i.e. people selling the same species under different taxos at higher prices (this is a common problem when it comes to scorpions, especially of the genus Tityus).

Read more: About Caboverdensis.
