I've always thought opamps are nearly always lower noise, less prone to HF radio interferences and more accurate (which doesn't always translate to better sound) than discreet which anyone is going to have a tough time in the layout and implementation which will contribute to a variety of problems. Preamps is the next most difficult stage to build up to achieve a high standard. Of course the worst is a phono stage. The smaller the signal amplitude, the harder to deal with.
Having said that, there's so many opamps to play with and its entirely up to you for your own flavor. It's tough  to tune discreet components.

10-4. Yes, I was thinking to use just a volume pot for the passive pre-amp (very similar to what Metalmania built). *sigh* it will take me another month or so till my T-amp can really come to life.
What's that?? 

Can I suggest, for a couple of bucks more..build a special version of passive volume pot. Fix up 2 volume pots, one 50k, the other is 100k.

I have been listening to my T-amp all these while minus its casing as my choice of Rosewood jewellery box is very thick to work with but I am not giving up on it (the Rosewood casing) as yet. I recently got an aluminium project box from e-Bay meant for my second T-amp in the office and started working on it yesterday - drilled the holes at my friend's place but some were badly off the mark so I manually filed to correct and enlarge them later in the late evening after coming back from JP (bump into a forumer there). I would say the holes are perfect and properly aligned now but my hands are full of blisters. 

I thought the rear of my second T-amp looks very much like a Trends TA 10.1 T-amp especially its rear.

buffer stage are used normally for impedance matching...
if done properly will have some enhancements in the sonic department.. hopefully!

quite worth of money,. easily drive my NAD floorstander to crazy volume with earth shaking ability.

anyway. one question.
the T-amp chip runs quite hot eh... won't it burn?i added heatzink on it. also if when it plays. i touch the heatzink, i can't tahan more than 1 seconds.

i finally found the reason after the lyn down.
i measure the power supply voltage. which it swing more than 13V....
so. i had dropped the voltage supplied to the tamp and the temperature drop to normal. roughly 60degree i guess, i can press my hand on the heatsink now.
but the tamp so tahan eh. i on for whole afternoon with my new adapter. lol.
it is hot even though no song is played. so i trace back my PSU. lol.

on the time power is over supplied. the treble for the t-amp become SO POWERFUL.

if u guys have the time tomorrow, would u like to come to my place for another T-amp TT?  it's in Putra Heights.  there are at least three rooms for u guys to play around, and two sets of Floorstands (Epos M16 and Yamaha NS-555) and two bookshelves (Yamaha NS-333 and Sony mini compo speakers).  also one Yamaha AVR and DIY pre+power amps to compare. 

would be great if u guys are free to come.  drinks and TT will be on me. 

i suggested tomorrow is because i will be busy after that.  i will be in penang from next friday onwards, coming back only on nov 9th.  also because my wife is not around haahaa...

Am I missing something? Why are the naked 20 watt T-Amp boards going for less than the naked 10 watt T-Amp boards? Am I wrong in assuming they are the same quality?

problem with volume control can be easily fixed by using GOOD pot, using chapalang rm2 pot would give you RM0.20 of channel balance and RM0.10 of signal quality.

Get alps RK097 for RM12++ from dealers, its the best bang for buck! Im using RK27, 10x more expensive, IMHO its not worth the money, unless u haf too much to spend. RK27 is bigger, better traction n control, n extremely better build. Other than that, a neglible sound difference and channel balance. Oh, im no perfectionist and im a "power cable dont play crap in audio quality" guy.

wow nice, really nice work on the casing Y.C. love those wbt style speaker terminal. how much are those? cant find any decent speaker terminal at JP.

jazzy, the buffer amp is tht nice huh!! wana try 1 soon, if i got the time nowadays come home lazy and most of the time watching drama or series only just to relax, even fall asleep doing some work on the pc...kakaka
