Planing to work in singapore. And never been to johor before. Need opinion.

1. Easy or not to find a single room to stay in johor? how much on average?
2. Rent a room in singapore, average how much?
3. Since i won't have own transport, what kind of transport available to travel to work? how is the bus fare? how many buses will i have to swap to reach singapore downtown?
4. What time best recommended to start travel early morning? Say...i work office hours. Will there be buses at night?
5. What is the average price per meal in both johor and singapore?

I want to consider all these to weight out the advantages and disadvantages. Please offer some insight.Thank you very much.

Any other good idea? Or comment?

I have a colleague who is working in singapore and staying in JB. So i can give u a rough guide.

1. Reasonably easy but not as easy as singapore, single room about RM400 depending on location and size of room plus the amenities
2. Also depends, im staying in a common room for $400 sgd, that about average price if your looking for single common room in the yishun area, closer to central town like ang mo kio and bishan is much more expensive
3. Bus and MRT are standard, but if from JB wanna travel to downtown, depends on area, best bet would be 2 use MRT if possible
4. if you start at 8pm, you need to start leaving at around 5-5.30 since the jam on the causeway is very bad now with the Mas Selamat thing. Around 1-2 hours to get through the causeway, not including travel time to from causeway to your office. Most buses will run until 11pm, others at 12pm. Only on weekends will you get "Night Rider" buses which run all night long.
5. In sing around 3 dollars, in JB if i not mistaken now food price increase so around rm5-6 oledi

For more information on bus and mrt routes including time schedules, you can visit smrt website.

Easy to get, dont worry..Ard rm150 depends on which area u stay.

2. Rent a room in singapore, average how much?

Huhuhh..very expensive!

4. What time best recommended to start travel early morning? Say...i work office hours. Will there be buses at night?

7am. Yes.

5. What is the average price per meal in both johor and singapore?

U start travelling from JB at 7am, sure will not reach work if u start at 8am. Which place u goto eat food cost 5 sing dollars? The food courts at paragon or wisma atria?

The food stalls in most part of singapore cost around 2.50-5.00 depending on what u having. Average hokkien mee is 3 dollars, bak kut teh is around 4-5.

If you are lucky, you can leave your house at around 6pm but thats cutting it close. Even for me staying in yishun, i wake up at 6am to goto my office in bishan coz the jam is terrible.

1. u can easily find a single room in jb.. a place like larkin, bukit indah is a good choice...
2. donno
3. if u live near larkin, u can easily find a bus in larkin bus station, alternatively u can take a bus from bukit indah and the bus directly using 2nd link to singapore...
4. even children can wake up early, i think around 5am is okay. about night shift i'm not really sure.
5. average per meal in jb around rm5.00.

if u haz come to this conclusion to meeting your ends need, i suggest you wanna reconsider working in Singapore ady. Is it worth it anymore.

Staying in JB may save you a little but cause u your livelihood. You really wanna consider taking care yourself or the little money u save.

My advice is stay in Singapore, if you want to work in Singapore.

To me, it's definitely not worth spending 4-5 hours a day commuting to & fro, just to save a few hundred dollars. Like pubee said, if that small sum makes such a difference to your financial situation, then perhaps it's not worth it to work in Sg.

If your new job pays OT, you could use the few hours a day you save (if you stay in Sg) to work extra and get more money. Or you can spend that time learning a new skill or furthering your studies. Or just spend it destressing.

Nothing is more wasteful than time spent commuting.

Which part of Sg will the new job be? If it's on the edge of the island somewhere eg. Changi, Jurong, Tuas, Woodlands, Boon Lay, Punggol etc... then staying at these non-central areas is significantly cheaper. Even if your office is at Orchard or the CBD, you can save money by staying farther away. Just spend a little more time on the MRT, but it'll be nowhere as much as going through the causeway.

You can rent a room in a HDB flat from $100-900. Varies greatly depending on location, proximity to MRT, amenities, aircond, attached toilet and class of flat (executive hdb, larger flats, smaller flats, neighbours etc. foreign workers, locals or expats, blue or white collar etc).

And if you can find someone to share a room, your rental is halved.

ermm... its engineering job for fresh graduate; salary dunno yet.

i wanna consider these 3:-

1. work at hometown rm1800 (everything free of course; plus can drive car to work, give parents rm300)
2. work at singapore and stay at johor (4 hours transport each day, rent room, transport fee, also give parents rm300)
3. work at singapore and stay at singapore. (will save transport time, but take all 3 meals in singapore, also give parents rm300)

my parents still working so giving them is optional, although i would like to.

Ok, ask yourself:

1. U are guy or gal?
2. Do you planning to stay long in Singapore?
3. What is the motive you come to work in Singapore?
