Hello divers!!
i need your help...
- where can i get diving gear in penang/kedah??
- im looking for diving camera (yg biasa2 sj, not for commercial dive), any suggestion?what brand, how much and where can i get it?
- is there any dive center at p.perhentian accept for solo traveler??
*
You can get Cressi gears at
Tec Sports
150 & 150A, 1st Floor, Beach Street, 10300 Penang.

How ever I do not recommend you to have camera unless if you are good with your buoyancy. New divers should enjoy their dives and learn how to spot creatures underwater before learning how to use camera. That way, the underwater life can be conserved.

All dive centers allow solo traveler and diver. Just need to pay a little extra.

Hope you have a great year of diving and dive safely.

Tq putraskyline. But i saw many promote phentian. Why ar?last time went both for snorkel i think prefer redang hehe
*
Cause Redang is more for snorkeling as the resorts are also better and more families and tourist visit there for snorkeling. The dive sites at Redang aren't that great if compared to Perhentian.

Perhentian is like diving haven in West Msia for foreigners. The accommodation are mostly basic, budget and cheap, unlike Redang Laguna or Berjaya Redang. Although they do have some decent accommodation there but most of them cater for divers hence they have better and more dive centers compared to Redang. Dive sites are Perhentian is also better than Redang imo.

^Taking pictures underwater requires you to be stable and not move so much or else your photos will not turn out as nice. Hence, being stable needs you to have good control over your buoyancy. I'm not good with my buoyancy as well so I'm still practicing while my bf is the one handling all the photography. When we are not stable, then we might hit the corals/marine life and that's how it affect the underwater world. smile.gif

You can just email or call up the dive centers and ask for the price. Normally it's just slightly more expensive than usual package pricing. Even if they don't list it on their website, they usually cater for solo divers.

It's the experience that counts. The more you dive the more you can control your buoyancy.

Here is a simple question to ask yourself and to know whether if you are fit to take photograph. Have you encounter any difficulty looking at a nudibranch up close for maybe 30 seconds or so?

If you have trouble focusing on it, then you'll most likely have to settle on the seabed to take photograph of the nudibranch but there are some people not aware when they are taking photograph, they land or step on some corals causing the corals to be complete squashed and damaged.

This scenario only true if you are interested in taking photos of nudibranch/small living organisms. If you are taking photos of big fishes, then this might not be true.

Solo travelers/divers can walk in anytime to any dive centers/resorts. They would propose you to go dive with a group and have you buddy with a DM depending on your skill after the check out dive. If there are no group dive, then a DM/DI will accompany you.

Dive price should be the same in Malaysia for solo but the rooms will definitely cost more.

It's better to just go for packages which include accommodation + diving.

i wonder why you all just ask the cost to get certified or which 1 is cheaper? Please bear in mind that scuba dive is a high risk sports, 1 mistake might lost your life...please take it serious...dive center & dive instructor is more important than the cost of the course

Understand the risk. But even more expensive rate cannot guaranteed 100% safety. Cheerz! Just trying to get the best rate ever ...

Any recommendation for certification in Sipadan(surrounding area)? This 5 star instructor development centre (whatever that means) is an indicator of something? http://www.sipadanscuba.com/

If you're looking for a dive center to learn diving, same advice as scubamy, talk to the instructors first and then only decide. There are lots of dive centers around Klang Valley who just wanna make money and don't provide any quality in their training. Do your survey properly (get recommendations from other divers, check out diving forums, etc.) and don't rush into it. You don't want to pay for a license and don't learn anything important in the end.

As for those who are looking for certification in Sipadan. I would strongly recommend that you get your certification completed and done before you step foot on Sipadan. You can always go to Sipadan and enjoy the marine life there after you have done your OWC. After getting advanced certification is even better as Sipadan are mainly wall dives and currents can be quite strong at certain dive sites. Hence bouyancy is very important. And new divers might not have enough experience to enjoy it. You might be trying to control your bouyancy to not go over the depth limit and don't see much in the end.

Just my two cents. smile.gif
