You mean private course or you want to travel solo? If you travel solo, mostly they will combine with others.

Hi putraskyline!

dive package (accommodation) for solo traveler. but they will let us know if we have to combine or not rite?

You can get Cressi gears at
Tec Sports
150 & 150A, 1st Floor, Beach Street, 10300 Penang.

How ever I do not recommend you to have camera unless if you are good with your buoyancy. New divers should enjoy their dives and learn how to spot creatures underwater before learning how to use camera. That way, the underwater life can be conserved.

All dive centers allow solo traveler and diver. Just need to pay a little extra.

Hope you have a great year of diving and dive safely.

Hi lck*G9!

ehehe..although i had Adv. OW cert., ya, i still not good with my buoyancy..do your meaning if we take pictures underwater, it would affect in marine life?

including p.perhentian? may i know which dive center? I already google, but still not yet find dive center which accept solo traveler.

neway, thanks for info n advice..really appreciate it.
ya i will, U too.. biggrin.gif

^Taking pictures underwater requires you to be stable and not move so much or else your photos will not turn out as nice. Hence, being stable needs you to have good control over your buoyancy. I'm not good with my buoyancy as well so I'm still practicing while my bf is the one handling all the photography. When we are not stable, then we might hit the corals/marine life and that's how it affect the underwater world. smile.gif

You can just email or call up the dive centers and ask for the price. Normally it's just slightly more expensive than usual package pricing. Even if they don't list it on their website, they usually cater for solo divers.
*
ya2..i agreed with you..i thought becoz of the flash or...also can affect the underwater life...hahaha...(i kena study byk lagi ni)
i just email Quiver about the price..

thanks ya for the info.. biggrin.gif

It's the experience that counts. The more you dive the more you can control your buoyancy.

Here is a simple question to ask yourself and to know whether if you are fit to take photograph. Have you encounter any difficulty looking at a nudibranch up close for maybe 30 seconds or so?

If you have trouble focusing on it, then you'll most likely have to settle on the seabed to take photograph of the nudibranch but there are some people not aware when they are taking photograph, they land or step on some corals causing the corals to be complete squashed and damaged.

This scenario only true if you are interested in taking photos of nudibranch/small living organisms. If you are taking photos of big fishes, then this might not be true.

Solo travelers/divers can walk in anytime to any dive centers/resorts. They would propose you to go dive with a group and have you buddy with a DM depending on your skill after the check out dive. If there are no group dive, then a DM/DI will accompany you.

Dive price should be the same in Malaysia for solo but the rooms will definitely cost more.

It's better to just go for packages which include accommodation + diving.

wah! really good info....

I already book redang for package diving last month. Just now I check the PADI website, the dive shop that i book not in list in PADI DIVE SHOP. can I dive with them? do diving experience (dive log) the in consider? do become should ensure and choose something dive shop the list with PADI? Negative effect if we diving with with dive shop that unlisted with PADI, SSI, NAUI etc.

All certified divemasters are qualified to sign your dive log and I am sure you will be accompanied by one divemaster. Not necessary he/she must be a PADI divemaster. biggrin.gif  Sometimes PADI certified dive centers means paying more only.
*
Means, every dive shop and their DM, certainly that qualified (legal), so, we no need worried la kan?

- what difference PADI , SSI, NAUI etc..certified?

hmmm, right now i'm planning to take full OW course at pulau payar(langkawi dun have right?)
date - between 5 sept to 11 sept

just wanna take the cheapest package, include all the accomodation, transport from penang to pulau payar

of course i need a good instructor as well~

1 more thing to ask
which should i take for the OW ?
PADI or SSI ? what is the different between this 2 ?
*
i did my OWD at East Marine, Langkawi. cost me around 1.3k exclude accommodation, OWD manual. If im not mistake, they also has branch at Penang. Any inquiry u can email Jenny : jennycheah@eastmarine.com.my / 019-4793773.

Im also asked the same question to east marine, differences btwn PADI and SSI, here

"There is no difference between both certifications ....just the name ....like when you go to Oxford University or Cambridge University. The qualification is the same. You benefitted with SSI because you get one extra training dive (total 5 dives) compared to PADI which gives you only 4 training dives."

My instructors are Taro & Abg Oon, they good and patient instructor.

East Marine is reputable 5 star dive center if not mistaken, they cater more to foreigners. It is more on the high priced side.

Diving at Langkawi is expensive, because of the boat ride to the island, I can't remember what island it is. tongue.gif
*
Agreed, East Marine 5 star dive center in Langkawi. The course is expensive but the accommodation is cheaper than Terangganu/Pahang. AB motel, cost only rm60 per nite.

laugh.gif  Depends on how urgent you want to perfect. Some want to impress but some are perfectionist. To us, during our time, this is some point for us to laugh about after the dive, at times the fun part of diving. Sometimes we can still laugh even after months. I think you can actually perfect it with more dives. part of buoyancy is confidence in the water, confidence that it is  a safe sport, confidence that it you will keep calm so if you are still quesy about what lurks under the sea no matter how many courses you take will not help. Buoyancy is also very important for underwater photography.

How many dives have you done actually?

Err..baru 15.

Thats heavy. Actually, I start to dive with 7kg and currently down to 3kg. I guess more practice/dives will make your buoyancy perfect.

Tahu take per...i also had to carry my own equipment for shore dive..Mau semput! Haha..thank you ya.

No hurry! You will get used to it and slowly you will get confident and use less. I personally myself use 3 weights, that's 6 kg. also. Although I can go down without now but I still want the 3 weights around my waist. I tried without but with too much concentration on breathing. The more you breath, the more buoyant you are as the lungs act like a balloon. You then have to control your breathing. Aiyah! so I never bothered with weights. laugh.gif

Weights is weightless underwater. Tanks although heavy on land is also weightless underwater. I have seen 'mat salleh' divers with 10 kgs of weights. The weights makes us sink and the BCD with air inside makes us float and we balance it so that we are weightless and hovers in the water. A small flip of your fins will propel yourself forward. I have seen divers doing the freestyle swimming during scuba diving. laugh.gif  Don't worry about weights, just enjoy your dive. If the weights make your diving enjoyable and easy, what's wrong with it, afterall after the dive, the first thing you do before boarding the boat is to hand the weight belt first, right?

Many of those who impresses other divers by not using weights. Wait till they meet something down there and panic.  laugh.gif They will shoot straight up to the surface. I too have the same experience. A leopard shark longer than I am came right in front of me from under with water visibility about 10 feet. You will start breathing so hard and by the time you calm yourself, you are almost near the surface. Imagine yourself with not enough weights. I became the butt of the jokes after that dive. blush.gif All of us was lobster hunting actually and I was holding the catch and by miracle I was still holding them. Anyway, we caught 8 and had a mighty fine dinner that night with them still laughing at me. rclxub.gif
