Everyone should carry a wooden stick with them preferable with a nail attached at the tip to knock off (potential thieves) badly =.= this sounds scary to even have a crowbar (Sounds like Half Life). Malaysia should allow every citizen to carry a gun just like the US, although I doubt most Malaysian are mature enough to hold a gun (kids playing aggressive games like counter strike ?)

This incident happened in TTDI this afternoon. My mum who is in her 80's was approached by a motorist at the gate. The Malay chap asked her to open the gate claiming that I had sent him to service the air conditioner and the bill had been paid for .Fortunately my mum didn't fall into his trap as I usually request servicing to be done when I 'm around. So please be careful and inform your loved ones on this sly tactic .The guy is on the prowl to look for his next victim especially residences with aged people.

1/2:

would like to share a break-in (and near break-in) incident happened a couple of weeks ago in my housing area- putra prima puchong.

within 4 days, there were two occurence of break-ins. the second incident involved 1 break-in and 2 attempted ones.

the 2nd incident might have continued on if not for the robbers making noise when breaking ajar my kitchen window in order to reach the back door locks (which are inside). it was unfortunate that we did not manage to whack the fellow's hand which was trying to grab the locks. he even had the cheek to put his face onto the window to check who was trying to hit him.

later checks revealed my house was the third attempt. 1st one was successful- the back door was the default wooden type. 2nd failed because the lock to the inside grill was far away from the window to be reach. 3rd was attempt on my house.

pg 2/2:

the point to be learned is do not rely solely on solex to provide 100% protection- it is with flaws. make use of it wisely- put in place that is not reachable, hence success of cutting it off is minimal. check alternatives brands and types of locks for different positions.

of course, complimentary mechanisms such as security alarm, bars will help. defensive means need to be considered as well.

plan for it as being break into is an unsettling feeling. but also plan for emergency exit. too much locks in emergency events, well, you know the consequences.

be safe everyone!

p/s: my apologies for breaking up this into two parts- having problem posting the whole text.

QUOTE(Baronic @ Feb 4 2009, 12:12 AM)
Just to inform

1) Just last week, while walking home from the park to my house in broad daylight around 6 pm, 5 minutes walk, i was listening to music with my headphones and holding my pda in my hand. I sorta heard a motor bike coming up from behind me, and i turned to look behind. Luckily i turned away from the main road, because as i did so, the motor bike sped just right past beside me, and the pillion rider's hands reached out and just missed snatching my PDA from me. Before i could get the number of the bike they sped away. They were wearing full face helmets.

2 )Tonight, a friend of mine was walking home from the university in Damansara Uptown not very far from TTDI, and she saw a bike coming towards her direction, and rather close to the curb, and her instincts kicked in. She started to move inwards and started to run, the area was dark and quiet. The bike stopped and the passenger got off and tried to snatch her handbag from her. She struggled for a bit and managed to get free and ran, and as she turned back for a bit, she saw the biker and the rider just standing there, selamba only. Shows that they're not newbies at this and have done this before and will probably strike again. She did not manage to get the number as it was dark and she was too busy running away.

I suspect it may be the same two people who attacked me earlier.

Have anyone had similar experiences around the same area, or close by? Do report in, seems to me like we have a local menace and pest. Should a police report be made?

Please be careful when you're alone and in a dark area, and do not hold handphones etc in your hands. Be extra careful when u see a bike especially from behind or if u notice its coming too close to the curb.

anyone else who had a similar experience also, dun take it for granted, please make a police report, so that they note that the crime rate in the area increase. At least there's a chance some actions would be taken
*
HI you should definitely make a police report. While this may not result in the capture of those snatch thieves, it will provide the police with useful statistics. The police force will pay more attention to areas of high crime, so if u dont make report, they dont know . and they cant check with their '' low resources '' .

Remember ur report makes a difference ! everyone should report no matter how small... You small action will save lives ! I call the police and notify them of suspicious characters in my area, PJ Utara. no harm done.

A word of advice on "Solex" padlocks or any other padlocks with solex keys type They are not reliable and could easily be picked by burglars. My cousin brother's house in Damansara Utama was buglarised as the the Solex padlocks failed. The theft gained entry, ransacked the house and took all the valuables and monies. When my cousin brother returned from work, he saw his Solex padlocks hanging on the washing line.

The thefts had the cheek to to show their skills and accomplishment to the house owner as they gained entry from the front door and gate

You homes will be better secured with locks like Viro and Yale

AIM HIGHER

Always aim higher than you believe you can reach. So often, you'll discover that when your talents are set free by your imagination, you can achieve any goal.

If people offer their help or wisdom as you go through life, accept it gratefully. You can learn much from those who have gone before you. But never be afraid or hesitant to step off the accepted path and head off in your own direction if your heart tells you that it's the right way for you.

Always believe that you will ultimately succeed at whatever you do, and never forget the value of persistence, discipline, and determination.

You are meant to be whatever you dream of becoming.

This is to remind all of us to always focus on growth, at any age. It is why we are here.

QUOTE(felicious @ Feb 4 2009, 04:25 PM)
Let me share the story in Wangsa Maju area.

1. Jan 08 6pm, my bag was snatched while I was walking out from my hostel. I hanged my bag at the inner side of the road, walking opposite of the direction of the cars. However, the two Malay guys came from behind with motor and snatched away my bag. I was stunned for a while, and the minute I 'woke up', my bag was gone. My W810 and few more stuffs gone.

2. August 08, I was walking back to my house. Again, I hanged my bag at the inner side of the road. 2 Malay guys came from behind and tried to snatch my bag, but they failed. They looked back at me for a while before speeding off.

3. A friend of mine's bag was snatched by 1 malay guy with motor and she fell down.

4. My lecturer went out around 3am. As he was walking, he heard motors are getting near, thus he ran faster, but the robbers were faster than him. One of them snatched his necklace. When he turned around, another one slashed his forehead with parang. Blood gushing out from his forehead and he fell down. The robbers asked for his wallet. Fortunately, his wallet is on the side where he fell, thus the robbers couldn't find it.

I believe there are even more cases in Wangsa Maju area.

Another case in Titiwangsa LRT, my friend's friend was robbed and slashed few times by malay teenagers.
For my case, I am already phobia of motors passing by. Whenever I hear motors passing by very fast, I will turn around. I ll place my wallet and handphones in my pockets. No handbag, unless I am going for shopping or special outing. When I am going out for meal, I will just take RM10 and a phone out.
*
I used to bring only small amount of cash when I go out with friends to mamak at night. I never practise the habit of bringing my wallet out. Only RM5 plus plus as I don't want to get caught in this situation where I might lose my wallet and all my personal belonging. However, I heard of such cases where if those jerk caught up with you and you only have RM5 for them to rob from you, you'll ended up beaten.

Bring wallet out, you'll at risk of being robbed. Bring little money out, get beaten for bringing small amounf of cash. What is going ono to this world.

Our office just got broken into this morning around 5am.
Witness accounts that it was done by a group of motorcycle gang around 10+ people. The cut the downstairs grill and also the padlocks. They even trying to break into the upstairs lot but luckily the tenants woke up because of the sound and they chase them away.

But luck was not on our side.
Plasma tv, laptop, portable HDD, cameras, spawn action action figures are among the missing items. Luckily we didn't kept much cash in the office during the weekend.

So people of Petaling Jaya/Kelana Jaya, beware and always keep vigilant.

For those who stay in Bukit Belimbing & Sungai Besi Indah in Balakong. Becareful when you taking the backroad to the Mines Wonderland, the road pass by the old & new flag building. I alsmost got robbed over there!

On 8 Mar around 8pm while I was driving my bike out for dinner with my brother. After taking the corner turn near the new flag building (call Sri Indah... I think...) was a road whith no lamp post & was dark. Then I heard a motorbike pick up from our back while calling us to stop. We didn't stop driving untill they caught up with us try to pull out the bike key. The driver were 2 Malay guys driving a bike.

So, our bike accidently knock their bike from the back. Luckily we didn't fall down. First we though they were "Mat Rempit" palying around untill 1 of the robber from the back came down & show a army knife at us. Then we realize they were trying to rob us.

Lucily there was a car with 4 guys inside from the opposite road slow down & ask us what's going on. The robber knew they were out number, they quickly jump on the bike & drove off. I was unable to see the number on the bike as it was too dark. After the robber drove off, I told the driver that we almost been rob.

The whole incident happen within 10 seconds, imaging that if there no car coming during the 30 seconds. They properly already rob our wallet & phone.

So, what I learn is that, don't drive bike during at night even is 8pm where some people think that it still early. Try avoid road with no lamp post. Pay more attention to your surounding. Try use the road where more car coming in & out.
