1/2:
would like to share a break-in (and near break-in) incident happened a couple of weeks ago in my housing area- putra prima puchong.
within 4 days, there were two occurence of break-ins. the second incident involved 1 break-in and 2 attempted ones.
the 2nd incident might have continued on if not for the robbers making noise when breaking ajar my kitchen window in order to reach the back door locks (which are inside). it was unfortunate that we did not manage to whack the fellow's hand which was trying to grab the locks. he even had the cheek to put his face onto the window to check who was trying to hit him.
later checks revealed my house was the third attempt. 1st one was successful- the back door was the default wooden type. 2nd failed because the lock to the inside grill was far away from the window to be reach. 3rd was attempt on my house.

pg 2/2:
the point to be learned is do not rely solely on solex to provide 100% protection- it is with flaws. make use of it wisely- put in place that is not reachable, hence success of cutting it off is minimal. check alternatives brands and types of locks for different positions.
of course, complimentary mechanisms such as security alarm, bars will help. defensive means need to be considered as well.
plan for it as being break into is an unsettling feeling. but also plan for emergency exit. too much locks in emergency events, well, you know the consequences.
be safe everyone!
p/s: my apologies for breaking up this into two parts- having problem posting the whole text.

[/quote A word of advice on "Solex" padlocks or any other padlocks with solex keys type They are not reliable and could easily be picked by burglars. My cousin brother's house in Damansara Utama was buglarised as the the Solex padlocks failed. The theft gained entry, ransacked the house and took all the valuables and monies. When my cousin brother returned from work, he saw his Solex padlocks hanging on the washing line. The thefts had the cheek to to show their skills and accomplishment to the house owner as they gained entry from the front door and gate You homes will be better secured with locks like Viro and Yale [/quote] i learned that the hard way (almost though). need to find a way to shield the lock from the burglars. i have doubts relying solely on locks to provide good protection.
