No worries, if you are using D68 package, Celcom will only charge you RM68 + 5% government tax, if you are NOT subscribed to any unlimited plans, no worries too, Celcom will only charge you for RM250. So anyhow, you just pay for RM250. Mind to give me your D68 data only phone number? I can double check for you. Will inform you if anything goes wrong, but of coz the info is private, just will tell you if there is any dispute, then you have to call careline for rebate.

I am very sure RM250 bill cap. Refer below which Celcom officially announced (not celcom.com.my) :
Capping @ RM250 For GPRS And 3G Pay Per Use Plan
Introduction
Users that exceed the set payment cap of RM250 on pay per use services will enjoy the data service used thereafter for free.
This would mean that even if the customer spends RM1000.00 for that given month on data (not inclusive of roaming) then he or she will only have to pay RM250.00 and the rest will be discounted.
Target Customers
-All existing customers with GPRS/3G Pay Per Use Package.
-New customers who subscribe to GPRS/3G Pay Per Use Package

The 1st 6months free internet usage is using whose internet? Celcom? If yes, advisable that re-confirm weather Celcom having this promotion or not to avoid any dispute. You can't find them back after PC fair ended.

D98 = unlimited plan so it is not applicable for capping, even tho applicable, it is useless due to Celcom already charged you RM98 for unlimited internet usage. They won't charge you more than that due to you already have D98 package.
D68 and D98 = UNLIMITED usage.
If did not subscribe any D68, D98 or daily unlimited, postpaid customers will be cap at RM250 for DATA usage only.

From what the salesperson told me, she said that I'll be using the Celcom internet connection for 6 months without any charges. She informed me that they're from the Celcom centre at JB, at Taman Tasek. She also mentioned, that I actually paid RM 699 - RM 408 (68x6 months for D68 plan) = RM 291 only for the modem. Don't know whether I could trust them or not

Not very sure, maybe they really doing such promotion, but maybe not. They will provide you official Celcom bill or not?
If they do promotions in PC fair, i think you have to pay first then they will send the registration form to branch to activate it in 24hours. But afraid that they're not from Celcom. Can't 100% sure they're from Celcom branch. Even you call to careline, they can't give you confirm answer too. So my advise is, becareful. lol. Can't help you to 100% verify them.
Add on : Anyway, you can give a try, if they're fake, take that you bought a modem for RM699. hah.
