1. Yes. but only for 60GB and 80GB, and only can play with the same region game only because it's region locked. For example, if you have any ps1/ps2 games of NTSC/J format, you can play them on Asian PS3s but not on others region PS3s. Both not in production anymore but still have limited stocks in the market.

2. No. Only Original PS2 Game with the same region code.

3. This 1 tak tau... you have to ask game shop. =)

4. Some game shops provide repair services. If you wanted to claim with warranty, you need to see which country set your PS3 is and only can claim on that country. For example, quoted from acougan, if you have a SGP set and have a way to send it to Sony SGP Service Center for RMA, they'll honor the warranty.

5. No. It will never be launch in Msia since Singapore is near with us. =p

i think both sets also able to find their region games easily but you need to buy with authorized Sony Retailer or order with them. Of course, it's much more expensive.

Region free on PS3 games, but not PS2.. correct me if i'm wrong..

check this out

QUOTE(acougan @ Nov 18 2007 03:33 PM)
Q) Which ps3 version/country&compatible are the best and suitable for malaysia's ps3 gamers?
A) Since the ps3 games are region free, it doesn't really matter what region ps3 to buy. Do note that currently, most local shops are selling ps3 Asian (SGP) set. Sony SGP service centre will accept SGP sets for repair and warranty service in event of hardware failure/defects but getting the unit to SGP is the owner's own initiative.
When register online at SGP site just put "get as gift". no need receipt when send to sony SG. their will only check the console serial no. but must be SG unit la, not HK. -saiga

Q) How much are original games? Are the games region free?
A) Yes, PS3 games are region free. Games can cost anywhere between RM160 to RM 220, depending on the game or region. Go ahead and download demos, its easy to do and will provide you an idea of what to expect from some games - Hitman190

Q) So whats the difference between US and Asian version of the game? Language? Some of it price diff is really high.
A) Not much difference. Obviously all US Version game support English Language and have English manuals. Not all Asian versions support English and they usually have chinese game manuals, so check the back of the cover (language is listed there) before buying. US games are around USD60, while Asian games are HKD350~450.
Note: free or paid DLC(expansions/game-addons) are region specific. For example, a US version version of Warhawk only works with US version of WH expansion pack. Another example, Asian Folklore only works with DLC packs from Asian PSN store.

Q) The ps3 games - R1,R2,R3. What's the difference?
A) Refer http://forums.gameaxis.com/showpost.php?p=...150&postcount=4

Q) Do we need to buy games of the same region to be able to play online together?
A) This is a tricky question. Some PS3 games are fully international and can play online worldwide across the different versions (e.g warhawk, GTA4), some can not (e.g motorstorm, GT5P). Best do some research on the game's online capability first before buying.

I spoke to a distributor of PS3 titles lately and GOOD NEWS, they ARE gonna launch the PS3 officially over here in little old Malaysia biggrin.gif

It'll be sometime end of this year I think, can't remember the exact date. Good lah, it shows that at least 'some' video game manufacturers value us Malaysian customers...hahahah.

I am not too sure whether prices will be lower or not, probably not by much (if at all). The main advantage would be better support, so we don't have to go all the way to Singapore to get our warranty claims...lol.

Just wondering, if PS3 is officially launched here, does that mean they will have game servers specially for Malaysian gamers? That will be good for lag-free gameplay! *cross fingers*

Malaysian PSN.

Then atlast we don't have to bother with those frustrating services for credit cards when purchasing stuff in the store. Furthermore, atleast then PSN cards for Malaysia will be widely available.

Price well... expect it to the be the same as current PS3 prices, if not higher.

I asked a guy from Sony Style a few months ago and he said Sony was going to launch PS3 here at the end of this year. He however did not say what month and the reason why Sony is taking so long to launch PS3 here is because TMnut does not have a T1 line for their online services like the PSN store and Home. So blame TMnut for making Sony delay the launch of PS3 here.
