If only heath is around for the 3rd movie. Personally, Joker is the only villain that define Batman.

Batman 3 Official Release Date: July 20, 2012

Since The Dark Knight began principal photography in April 2007 for a July 2008 release, we must assume that Batman 3 would need to go into production before April 2011. But with only seven months away, does that mean they have a first draft screenplay in hand?

Of course, the release date could always change, but it seems like Warner Bros and Nolan would like to recreate the success of the last film. The Dark Knight was released on July 18th 2008, so this is the exact same weekend. Batman Begins was released in June 15, 2005

before heaths death, nolan said the movie was about harvey norman / two face... so its possible the 3rd movie could have been about the jokers further ascension... maybe changed the editing a bit to make the joker the main villain after heaths death... or maybe not..
his acting was superb and the movie came out brilliant.

even without heaths death, no more joker or less in the 3rd...
wouldnt want to sit in a batman marathon of batman begin, dark knightm and 3rd movie when the joker is already in almost 3 hours of the movie... a new character please.....

Adding in Robin or Batgirl would be a pleasant surprise.

BATMAN 3: The Joker will NOT feature says Chris Nolan



I’ve just got my hands on that Chris Nolan centric Empire Magazine (which we’ve now managed to plug three times in a few hours!!) and boy is there a big piece of blockbuster news scoop-age in there that has been missed by many.

When asked on whether Nolan would re-cast The Joker for Batman 3, he ‘emphatically and without hesitation’ answers “NO!”.

So that’s it, all the two year speculation on the ethics behind a potential re-casting of the late Heath Ledger in his Oscar winning, iconic role can be put to bed. THE JOKER WON’T APPEAR IN BATMAN 3. Presumably we have to imagine him for the time being as a mental patient locked up in Arkham Asylum.

There is the ever-lurking question about villains: who will The Dark Knight tussle with this time… Could it possibly be a returning (and recast) Joker, pulling strings from Arkham, Lecter-style, Empire wonders?

“No”, says Nolan emphatically and unhesitatingly. He resists elaborating simply because, quite understandably, he says, “I just don’t feel comfortable talking about it”.
