ok ... i think i go for 1.5 enough ... even though my living room is quite big coz it will be a huge open space for living room + dining room.
but i prefer moderate coolness ... dont have to be the coldest ... hahaa ...

so far i hardly see the price for 1.5/2.0 HP panasonic ... anyone have any idea?
or probably we can list down the price list for every model + specification + their price here?
it will be a very good info to share though ...

@jootat,
That I'm not sure but i do think it could be slightly over RM2k *shrugs* I left the fixing of the air conditioners to mom and dad when we shifted. I was onli responsible for monetary contribution to either the curtains and/or air conditioner up to max of RM30k *gulp*

To find out whether a 1.5hp will be sufficient, here is a link to calculate the which aircon capacity is right for the size of the room:
http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=room..._properly_sized

One other thing about an underpowered aircon. If the aircon is underpowered, one might need to turn it on to maximum fan speed in order to cool the room. Hence, it's going to be noisy.

Might be annoying if you're watching a movie, listening to music, etc. Then again, you can turn up the volume of the TV/hi-fi. tongue.gif

@hanif444,
Yeah that's right - also, if it's too cold just increase the temperature. If after U've bought and installed the unit, U won't be able to do anything if U find it not cold enough.

@hanif444,
Like I said in my 1st reply it really depends on how big the area is. I use a 1.5HP in my bedroom. I like it cold but most people cannot take it; and yes I still use the blanket! tongue.gif

Just to add that the Panasonic Inverter models are using R410A refrigerant/gas. R410A is more expensive to install but its environmental friendly. thumbup.gif

Know Your Air Con: R22 and R410A

As far as I know, Daikin models in Malaysia are still using the older R22 refrigerant. Which means about the same installation cost as normal non-inverter models.

Added on July 31, 2008, 2:15 pmThe Inverter type is quite a bit more expensive. Maintainance wise, also higher due to the green refrigerant. I suspect that the payback period (vs. conventional type) is more than 5 years....

Inverter type should also not be used in an open area like living room 'cos your savings is negligible.

Mitsubishi also a reliable brand...
What we need is the service after we purchase the air-con, i heard ppl said Panasonic customer service is very bad.

Mitsubishi ionizer 2 HP RM 2150 (installation included)
Mitsubishi ionizer 1 HP RM 1300 (installation included)

Generally, you don't deal with the manufacturer directly, but rather with the dealer/installer of the aircond.

Also, most customer service in Malaysia is poor, simply because they are a cost centre and organizations don't allocate big budget for them. They would rather spend on marketing activities to attract potential customers.

Depending on you air cond usage, most service can be DIY and the most common tasks would be to clean the air filters and blower fan. If you are a keen DIY person, you may want to consider getting airconds with easy access to the blower fan. Next level of service would be to wash off the dirt in the evaporator & condensing coils. This would normally be done by your favourite air-cond service guy and this is also more expensive if you use the Panasonic Inverter type as gas would need to be refilled.
