Hi all,
Is anyone using Hitachi Washing Machine, BD-s1100 washer+dryer?  The sales person told me that this unit is made in Japan and it's really reliable.  So far I did not see any review (other than Hitachi site, of course) so just curious.

Hi L7Awesome,

If you are used to a front loader, this washer is front loader with the drain pump of a top loader ie gravity pump. It cannot pump water exceeding a height of 10cm off the ground unlike those typical of front loaders where the minimum height must be 40cm and maximum 100cm.

The concern that buyer needs to be aware of:
1. Drainage pipe max height.
This is not a problem if the drainage hole is on the floor but if outlet is embedded into wall at 40-60cm height expected for a typical front loader, that might be difficult to to remedy unless the machine is raised on a very tall pedestal or the embedded pipe is lowered.

2. Drain pipe position relative to machine.
If laundry drain outlet is on the right, the installer can lay the machine flat on its back on the floor and change it point to the right side as per installation manual. Default pipe outlet is bottom left facing. This is one time only.

3. Lint filter maintenance (bottom right)
This filter needs regular maintenance otherwise it contributes to poor drainage or detergent flow.

4. Dry filter maintenance (top right drawer).
There's an vacuum cleaner extension hose accessory provided that cleans the deep recessed & narrow dry filter. The removable lint filter cassette can be disassembled and cleaned without effort. This is necessary for proper dryer function and is typical of any dryer operation. Also the cassette may break after long use and needs replacing ( replaceable consumer part). Normally cleaned after dryer use.

5. Heavy blankets
A washing cap accessory (MO-F012) is required for blankets weighing between 3kg-4.7kg. Failure in adhering to this requirement may malfunction the machine. This to me is a concern if maids are part of the household and therefore they need to be mindful of this.

As with any washer dryer combo, washing and drying is at the lowest number - 7kg. If washing multiple loads for large family units, spread the load throughout. This is not a big deal if there's a drying area but then unless drying area is limited. Debatable is how often is a washer/dryer needed in this country for the majority but one desirable advantage is dry laundry even during rainy days for that item that is needed to be worn the next day (children's uniforms etc).

That being said, one thing I like about this washer/dryer is its 7.5kg dryer electrical consumption of 1350W. Which means the electrical usage required is 10A. This is a great deal as how often is a laundry area equipped with a 15A or 20A point? Other than that, it's water consumption at eco-mode is 6.1l/kg but typically 80l (7.6l/kg). And its quieter drum that vibrates less due to the 5ply fluid load balancer which is a boon in multi-family multi-story dwellings where noise is a concern. Just make sure the tiles aren't smooth as that might still contribute to a walking washing machine at high rpm (1000rpm or higher). If you regularly wash the area, construct a plinth as a forumer has advised early on in this thread or lift the machine up on a anti-slip stand.

Hi...anyone know where we can buy the water inlet valve assemble for toshiba washing machine? Mine is having water issue whereby the water inlet is not opening wide enough for the water to fill up the tube. As the warranty has lapsed, would want to DIY self repair.

We have been using a samsung for 4-5 years. serving us well.
Try to choose the mid-higher end models which are made in korea instead of china.

I've got this handsome Panasonic (NA128VA2 - TBC) 20kg front loading washing machine for whopping 3k back in 2008 when Pana first introduce the front loading, with Inverter, top spin 16000 rpm, cool white LCD backlight display, responsive dial loaded with tons of washing mode and sexy convex fiberglass with a push in handle. Of course I am confidence with the hype review of Pana top loading machine, still surviving today after 2 times changing of it's components and I found out it was obsolete a year after.

The loud thumping noise at certain point the washer is dancing with its short 4 legs and deafening whirling sound is definitely a good vengeance tools for annoying neighbours, especially I timed it for a midnight wash. When come to functionality, it does it's job quite well where it automatically adjust the washing time by the load's weight.

I am going to miss the geisha but I am going to get a German concubine for my new place.

Finally replaced 6kg washer whose pump has gone cranky with a 8kg Hitachi BD-W80MV. This is a Japan import model vs the Thai made 8.5kg BD-W85MV.

First thought:
Very quiet. We didn't even know it was spinning.
Fluffier clothes - it has a unique way of washing. It will rotate the drum 15-20 degree clockwise and anticlockwise a few times and then rotate clockwise say 10 degrees and repeat. Somehow this makes the water foam a lot. But the clothes come out feeling softer.
Rapid 15 wash - life saver for situations where large laundry is subdivided into different types of need:cotton, delicates, synthetics. 3 loads all done under 1 hour.

Home minister gave approval. Happy customer for now.

anyone here had experienced the same problem? from google i found that error is something to do with internal leakage detected and need to call up serviceman.. $$$ & time wasting!

Mind me asking, what were the components that were replaced? I am currently using the NA140VX3 for slightly more than a year, still washes great but is very sensitive with unbalance load and requires perfect leveling for it to spin. But parts to go obsolete within 5 years of lifespan is a bit too short lived esp for a 3k machine.

Btw yours is supposed to be 8kg? I don't think Panasonic made 20kg front loaders and definitely not 16000rpm spin speed.

Hi. I wanna ask the experts here about my washing machine. Am using a Electrolux EWF 85761 front loading type.

1. Is it liquid detergent alright to use? Tried dynamo and I still see suds. Should I switch to powder? Any recommendations?

2. During spinning it emits a quite a high pitch sound. Is this normal?

Thanks for any helps.

1. Mostly liquid will produce more bubbles. When you buy ur washing machine detergent or powder look for the front load logo.

2. Yes, like aeroplane, so don't put near to ur room.

1. Suds is normal. What needs to be avoided is too much of it. Kao Attack liquid was a favourite of mine. I have not tried anything else besides Cosway and now Meleleuca as recommended by friends.

Speaking of Melaleuca, do they now have HE laundry detergent for front loaders? A couple of years back they have not brought it in yet.

I use Persil liquid, does not foam much. Dynamo does not have front load specific liquid detergent, hence it foams quite a bit. Try to avoid it. Cosway works well too.

Thanks guys.

The Dynamo I buy (white bottle) has the front load logo. Unfortunately when I did the first run clean (as per advised) without clothes it became so sudsy it flow out of the dispenser and also the main door doh.gif The amount I put in was half a cup (as per mentioned in the manual) and at 90 degrees cotton.

Will consider Persil, Kao or Cosway next time once I finish up my dynamo. Never had this issue when I use a top loading machine unsure.gif

The main word you need to check on the detergent for front load is "Low Suds".

In the market like giant or Tesco, TOP and Persil Low suds are easy to find.

Dynamo does not have a specific one for low suds front loader. They claim that their detergent works for both top load and front load, which is not always true.
