Where you from? If within 200km, can consider drive to KL and visit the warehouse sale. French door all 3-4k+ for Japanese and Korean brands. Personally I buy Hisense for 2.4k la with glass panel.

3k is metal panel... If want glass panel, then need 4k+ for japanese and korean.

Onking from 16-18 in Subang UEP and TBM 17-18 can't remember where. If I got go TBM tomorrow, then I'll snap some picture if I find the price is cheap. Onking I went today and most are Panasonic, Hitachi, Sharp, Hisense, Toshiba and Mitsubishi.

I was deciding between a side by side vs top fridge bottom freezer vs french door design.

Side by side you get more space for freezer but less space for fridge...

I got a french door design because it made more sense as I access the fridge way more frequently than the freezer so all the items are within reach without having to squat to take items at the bottom like in the case for side by side.

I chose french door instead of top fridge bottom freezer as french door is more elegant la IMHO.

But to nitpick, the closing mechanism of french doors are not as nice as side by side.

My fridge is the Hisense 4 door 720L. Got it around RM3.4k at Harvey Norman early this year during their Raya sales
https://www.hisense.com.my/product/4-door-i...20l-rq758n4asv/
*
Sharp is probably the only one that didn't use that folding panel gap. Instead they had both doors closer and the rubber seal all the way up to the corner and then turn 90.

Update:

Today tried Panasonic 4doors and they are didnt use panel gap to secure the middle of the frigde closing. Instead they did what Sharp did but their rubber implementation is ugly.

can recommend me 2 doors fridge below rm2.5k?

also, does the measurement for 2 doors fridge are all standard? i have to survey for fridge so i can measure the size for kitchen cabinet
*
You should measure your cabinet, minus 150-200mm from both width and height, then choose a fridge that would fit. This would allowed some allowance to push the fridge in with enough space for it to dissipate the heat from compressor and defrost cycle.

Its a shame we dont get much choices when it comes to multi drawer / doors fridge in Msia if your space is limited. The only choice is those imported from Japan models which are expensive...

Going through Panasonic Japan website, there's like a wide selection of multi door models, some with width of 600mm which would fit the slimmest of space available

I think it is all about demand and each brands marketing to bring in the products that they feel is most suited for the market.

Dont blame Panasonic because I think they knew quite well who their customers base were and their preferential size/design when it comes to refrigerator. You just have to look elsewhere. Mitsubishi from what I knew is a pretty popular brand in SG and thus I'm not surprised that they choosen to bring in these slim but taller fridge as space is a premium in SG.

Well, they can advise any spacing they want. After all, it's all about maximising efficiency. The heating element for no frost is most possibly on the side like most fridges, having less space would mean the heat would remained there longer thus might affect cooling efficiency and power consumption in the long run.

for the fridge part, which one is more practical and easier to store stuff? from what i see in the specs, SBS type seems having bigger net volume, but since it's with smaller shelf width, maybe will be less efficient?

thanks
*
Depends on users. I see my mom fridge still messy like 2 doors fridge despite using 4 doors fridge. She still open both doors whenever she wants to access the fridge. I think if user don't change their behaviour of organising things, it really didn't matter which fridge type you bought because you will stuff it to the brim until there's literally no more space to do so.

Hi
I would like to know regarding space required for refrigerator. I have a space of about 1150mm width, limited by cabinet and wall. No limit on height. Am interested in sharp french door, but when i looked up the manual online, i need >1400mm space total for fridge door to open. When i went to look at the model in harvey normaln, seems that i can open the door and access drawers even when door is open at about maybe 90-100 degree angle. So am confused....would my space fit?
*
If you buy a glass door, then you also have to becareful of hitting the wall on one side.

I never thought about opening width when buying. Luckily for me, my house isn't those fancy one with wall cabinet. I have to pull my fridge out and angled it 40 degree or so. Therefore when I open the left door, it wouldn't hit the cupboard beside, and when I open the right door, it wouldn't hit the wall.

Not looking for glass door, as i can imagine kids oily fingerprints on them. 😬😬. I had to think of opening width - i dont have fancy cabinets around the fridge area, just a corner with a tall cabinet on one side and wall on the other. I was thinking of angling it a bit if it doesnt fit, but its a heavy fridge....too bad i dont know of any fridge that come with wheels....wonder why...
Am thinking of Sharp SJF-921VMSS. Anyone has any reviews on this?
*
Most if not all huge fridges had wheels... dont worry about that.

What does the middle rubber seal look like. That would be my concern with french door fridge. Does it have a flap?
*
Sharp and Panasonic design dont have flap.

Guys gone through few comments here but still need some enlightments.I will go for Panasonic after seeing the good reviews here.
Which one is good and reliable
1)SBS vs top-bottom vs French
2)Top freezer vs Bottom freezer
*
SBS and French door main difference is in the refrigerator IMO. SBS has the whole height of the fridge thus more generous with height spacing. Even with the newer slimmer and taller design for canned drinks, it is not a problem. French door does feel a bit inconvenient when you open the wrong side and also the height problem for certain tray level unless you sacrifice 1 level in the middle.

I think top and bottom freezer dont really differ that much in terms of power consumption, given it's all inverter now.

Google up who bought who.
Yes old time Toshiba electronics lasts 30 years, even the washing machine never die just the iron carcass rotted..
However I bought one used for 4 years, I didn't even get to use it for 2 more years, it died before its 6th birthday (not cold) and declared BER (cost me rm400 for a ~1400 bucks 350L size GR-35MD)

Inverter or non inverter? Many non inverter just need to replace the compressor relay (whatever they called the black thing).

Hello, anyone ever used LG before? Any thought on this model GC-B257SLVL? Seems like the best bang for buck for its size and class.

Also, the metal cooling thing that the new refrigerators have nowadays, does it make a lot of difference in energy saving?
*
Energy saving came mostly from compressor equipped with inverter. You need to understand how fridge works. Initial cooling will went through freezer area before going into fridge part. Old fridge cool mainly with air from freezer. I guess once you open the door, the cool air escape and the whole cooling process begin again. My guess is that by using a small piece of metal, they are able to cool the air faster since metal is a better conductor than air, also partly also because metal dont lose it's cold instantly like cool air escaping the fridge whenever it is opened.

As long as it is an inverter fridge, the power savings will be there. Stuffs like metal cooling merely increase the cooling efficiency higher to achieve the final few percentage. My old fridge without inverter draws up 3.5kwh per day before I ditched it (meter change). Inverter fridge draws less than 1.5kwh per day.

How much power did it draw? I had a smaller mitsubishi 2xxL non inverter used in office, it does not draw power non stop like my older fridge.

was watching this video about fridges

agree with everything except the 'where its made' point

*
Rather than saying where it's made, it's more like where it's assembled. I wouldn't ruled out there will be some minor differences when it comes to QC like the author mentioned.

Overall, that's a pretty fair assessment except for the author obsession with assembled/made in usa.

I have a Panasonic NR-B368XSMY in my apartment for about 4 years now, no issues yet touch wood. My Samsung 560L fridge has worked for more than 10 years without any issues also. If my Panasonic can last up to 7 or 8 years without any issue, my next fridge will likely be a Panasonic as well.

I think the design of most brands of fridge is almost the same, meaning you can find almost any design you like from small to big, 2-door bottom freezer, 2-door top freezer or multidoor etc. from Panasonic, Samsung, LG or Sharp etc. Price and reliability may be the next criteria since one can basically find the design that is suitable with any brand.

I didn't survey much but so far the price seems to be quite close. If I move to a new house, my next fridge will likely be Panasonic as it looks good. Haven't really surveyed other brands. The larger fridges 500L or 600L and above are mostly in the range of RM5k to 10k and I'm not sure if the equivalent Samsung or LG will have a lower priced equivalent.

Oh man, fridge is such a low tech appliance... why are you guys willing to spent 5-10k on this shit?
