Interestingly, this is the only live action Star Wars film where Vader actually uses his light saber like a true bad a**, as well as the force grip. This scene has to be one of the coolest in the history of the films.
In Ep IV, Vader and Obi-Wan were almost just standing around
Indeed the tail end scene alone with Vader and his light saber warrants more than one viewing. This light saber scene also feels amplified/reward due to the complete absence of light saber action in the film.
This might be too soon, but I think its safe to say her character might be 'killed off' in Episode 8. I don't see how General Leia could 'suddenly' disappear from Episode 9... unless CG character is used.
I think if done respectfully, General Leia's "departure" can serve as both a tribute to her legacy and a send off for a beloved character.
That said, there should be slight directional changes in the script and since we are a year away, I really hope there is sufficient time for these changes and no delay in the film release.
Regarding the trailer, I think they have already cooked up a nice Episode 8 trailer since Rogue One is out and the initial release hype starting to go down. But since Carrie Fisher's sudden passing, we might now have to wait a bit longer ~ late Jan/Feb my estimation.

1. First glimpse at The Last Jedi Director Rian Johnson and the cast — including returnees Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and presumably newbies Laura Dern and Benicio del Toro — will convene Friday at 11 a.m. ET for what is the most anticipated event of Celebration, The Last Jedi panel. We expect to hear behind-the-scenes anecdotes, be tantalized by concept art and plot clues, hear the cast’s fond memories of the late Carrie Fisher (more on that below), and, for the grand finale, get our first teaser trailer for December’s Episode VIII.
J.J. Abrams, who launched a new era of Star Wars with The Force Awakens in 2015, is returning to complete the sequel trilogy as writer and director of Star Wars: Episode IX. Abrams will co-write the film with Chris Terrio. Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm. “With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for release on December 20, 2019
It should be an epic conclusion, J.J knows his audience well.
