That was your first ever look at Star Wars: Episode VII. Did you miss it? Scroll up and look again, most of it’s happening behind Kathleen Kennedy’s head.

The photo, which was originally released on the Lucas Film website, shows a production meeting in full swing at Lucasfilm. Pictured are Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy, visual effects supervisor John Knoll, production designer Rick Carter, tech VP Kim Libreri, and Jason McGatlin, the senior vice president of physical production. What are they meeting about? Lucasfilm hasn’t confirmed it, but it’s a safe bet to assume they’re talking about Star Wars.

Why do we think they’re talking Star Wars? Because behind them is a big stack of concept art, concept art that almost certainly has something to do with Star Wars: Episode VII, the new movie currently heading into production under the watchful eye of notoriously secretive, slightly paranoid, lens-flair lovin’ director J.J. Abrams. Abrams, by the way, is in the photo too. He’s the guy with his back to you.

Here’s a closer look at some of the concept art in the background… 

I’ve brightened the photo up a bit to give you a clearer view. With that enhancement you can now see that the Millennium Falcon is pictured in one of the photos. The others are harder to make out, but the bottom sort of looks like it involves a long-range desert landscape shot. Tatooine? The top one has four different images and one of them looks an awful lot like Alec Guinness as Obi Wan.

As you may have heard, ‘Star Wars: Episode 7‘ will be filming in Abu Dhabi for a few months this summer, as the UAE capital stands in for Tatooine, the home planet of Luke Skywalker. With production set to begin next month, work on the Tatooine set has already begun and today we have our first ever ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ set photos, and look which classic ‘Star Wars’ vehicle is back!

While you might look at that photo above and go, “Uhh, OK, that’s some dude’s rolling a big concrete circle into a white tent,” we can tell you those dudes work for ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ and that big wheel very much looks like the foot of an AT-AT, the large, four-legged walker introduced in ‘The Empire Strikes Back’.

There were previously only AT-AT appearances on Hoth and Endor, so it would be interesting to see what they’re doing on Tatooine. And, just to be sure, and because this is ‘Star Wars‘ and this is what fans do when there are mysterious ‘Star Wars’ set photos, someone posted a comparison online:

What will likely happen is that the feet/legs of the AT-ATs will be built practically on set while CGI is used to create the rest of the walker. (Or, perhaps this is being used for a close-up that takes place at ground level and a wide shot isn’t needed.)
While it might seem surprising to have set photos popping up when we still have no idea who’s going to star in the actual movie, remember that it was confirmed earlier this month that ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ has actually started filming already. You would think that with all this movement going on surrounding the film that an official casting update is imminent.

In addition to its time in Abu Dhabi, ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ will film primarily in London at Pinewood Studios.

there was a call for extras circulating in UTM in november last year. it didnt mention the title of the production, but it says it's going to be "an international period drama set in the east". needed lots of asian looking extras.

Well if Star Wars does film some scenes here .... it'll be worth it!!

i met the  the chairman of pinewood nusajaya in 2011. it's a meeting on collaborations with UTM on supplying specialized work force to work on productions. basically the cost of the production in malaysia is cheaper. and if the production included a certain percentage of malaysian, they can get tax deductions. so that's why pinewood was seeking malaysian manpower. back then, he said he's lobbying for the main studio to shoot more films here.

i thought, with JB's notorious crime rate, i would love to see hans solo get robbed in the streets!

Now, it could be a massive coincidence. But, to have Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo all in the same city, just about two weeks before filming on a new ‘Star Wars’ is about to begin, that seems like a preponderance of circumstantial evidence. Oh, and then there’s the fact that, DUH, of course they’re in ‘Star Wars: Episode 7.’

Well Han Solo would shoot first so no worries there.
