QUOTE(Shoki @ Aug 20 2008, 04:00 PM) Hmm.. Anyone free enough to post a price comparison for 22nd August iPhone 3g launch just like the one before? There is no point doing this unless the status of the iPhone is confirmed: locked or unlocked. Once they are confirmed unlocked, there is the mess of getting it with plans. Even with the Indian or Filipino iPhones, you need to know whether they accept foreign sims.Easier to compare ^^. Cuz I've got confused >.< |

These carriers bring them in at great risks of either winning or losing customers, and/or to see if their collaboration with Apple works in their favour. I totally understand why they are protecting themselves by locking the sim to their own only.

QUOTE(louismhc @ Aug 20 2008, 04:54 PM) @mONSTers Local Data means u only able to use it (1GB,2GB or 3GB with iFlexi plan) within SG. Outside SG, roaming data rate will be charged accordingly.Not sure yet...but what is is Local Data mean? Limited 1GB/2GB and 3GB?! Totally not understand......what is the different with Iflexi and those Ione plan? iFlexi plan is the newly created plan cater for Iphone only. It comes with Voice plan + Data. The iPlan is only voice plan. You have to get Broadband on Mobile (BOM) as a value added service (VAS) if you want to use 3G. |

BEST FOR MONEY IS TO GET THE classic PLAN. Added on August 20, 2008, 6:19 pm QUOTE(stringfellow @ Aug 20 2008, 02:22 AM) Sauce? The iPhone may not be locked among the three carriers, but there arent any guarantees with regards to foreign sims. It may be locked from Malaysian sim cards. i expect singtel to sell sim free iphones. there is a rule from IDA singapore which did not allow locked phones to launch officially in singapore.This post has been edited by icycokes: Aug 20 2008, 06:20 PM |

@icycokes
I dont wanna be a buzzkill but you've just quoted my question regarding the unlocked SG iPhone part. IDA may not allow phones to be locked in SG, but locked among its three carriers, or totally unlocked? I'd rather be looked upon as the bad guy here and spoil the party with this warning that the case may be it is not locked AMONG its three carriers, but still locked within these 3 (Singtel, M1 and Starhub). You had better make sure that the iPhone you're getting is really unlocked, otherwise bring back to Malaysia and put in your sim, and face the INVALID sim sign. Then end up having to use sim-unlocker which are shoddy at best. Be completely sure that they are unlocked to foreign sims as well before attempting to buy. The cheapest plan is still RM4000+. You dont want to end up spending that much and still have a locked iPhone. Sigh, this is like the umpteenth time I tried to explain this, and still people dont understand. I'd rather be a skeptic and save myself a ton of money than to be a willing optimist and wasted RM4000+ |

Sim locks that restricts only sim cards from its country of origins are the general practice, that's how the previous iPhone EDGE launches are handled! Otherwise I can simply slip in my Celcom sim inside an American iPhone and not even have to worry about unlocking it.
