QUOTE(danny_sp15 @ Jun 10 2009, 06:40 PM) not sure about malay fine-dining... sure there are hotels serving malay cuisine at ridiculous prices (especially near the fasting month or hari raya), but i doubt they taste better than the real deal (the ones prepared by the orang kampungs)... there's a place called "seri melaka" besides chili's at one utama, and they're charging about rm188 for 2 person, for some malay cuisine consisting of white rice, some rendang, some kerabu, etc. rm188 for that? seriously ridiculous... so u like malay food? i like chinese food! cos my mom is chinese, so she knows how to cook some halal chinese cuisines. she just replaces the pork with chicken in her recipes. hehe, indian food is quite universal, cos every race also go to mamak stalls. hehe. maybe cos a) i come from a region with 90%+ Malays b) i might have blood from other race. but this being M'sia - we actually enjoy food of race that are not ours. however, i refuse to pay premium for something that's not better than what's outside. the thing is this la, when it comes to Western food, those at higher-end places really DO serve much better food. even in TGIF / Chilis, you can have a delicious burger for RM 20, get it to be done medium-rare and voila, beats the crap out of the expensive Wendy's, Carls and BK. same can't be said for those Malay / Chinese food, often over priced equivalent of what could be found other place. QUOTE(danny_sp15 @ Jun 10 2009, 06:40 PM) u guys ever went to manhattan fish market? what's ur opinion? i've been there a few times, but the dishes are disappointing IMO... i thought they really have branches in manhattan, but it turns out they only have a few branches in m'sia, s'pore and indonesia.. it's just that they're using the concept of the real fish market in manhattan... the only meal i like from them is the flaming prawns... for me, their fish & chip set. the dory fish with that sauce of theirs, it's good. other than that, i haven't try them. Added on June 10, 2009, 10:45 pm QUOTE(shauno @ Jun 10 2009, 10:36 PM) i think vintry near Pusat bandar damansara serves rather nice food, with a nice enough setting. but its non halal tho. Las Carritas is another great choice definitely falls in your budget, but i don't think there's one in a mall. but imo, eateries in a mall don't really ooze nice ambiance for a special dinner =/ Las Carretas! eateries in mall also depends la. you see places like Vietnam Kitchen (less crowded area of 1U new wing), Zanmai Sushi (less crowded area of 1U new wing), Chilis (less crowded area of 1U new wing), Good Evening Bangkok (hidden corner of 1U new wing), TGIF (hidden corner of 1U old wing) and so on - they're actually ok mah in terms of ambience.
i didn't like Good Evening Bangkok dishes though. lucky eat for free. This post has been edited by goldfries: Jun 10 2009, 10:55 PM |

QUOTE(danny_sp15 @ Jun 10 2009, 11:03 PM) u're from... kelantan? and u're a... mix too not mixed, but often mistaken to be a Malay. suspect may have ancestors of other race. not sure, since i come from the North. speaking of makan, you can try Cozy Corner. Ampang Park | Jaya 33 | Great Eastern Mall. i would go GE Mall wan la, you see a lot of Malays go there for their lunch on Sunday - so i believe it's Halal la. waitress seems to be Malay too. so yeah, i guess confirm lor. |

QUOTE(buntutman @ Jun 13 2009, 04:20 AM) see, that's the thing. the article you posted doesn't even support what you're saying.QUOTE(buntutman @ Jun 12 2009, 12:47 PM) gwailou fine dining = atmosphere the way you put it, is like Asian FD has quality food while non-Asian is on atmosphere............ and that's not what the article said. Asian fine dining = quality food. all the article said was. QUOTE But unlike in Asia, European restaurants place more emphasis on the trappings of fine dining, and Gordon Ramsay is no exception. Bouquets of fresh flowers adorn the 13-table dining room, and the menu includes rarefied dishes like pigeon and Cornish lamb. feel free to point out any error on my end, because i don't see the article supporting your point. from what i see, what i see it still says fine dining in both places are still a matter about atmosphere and quality food, just that the non-Asian people (in the article, Europeans) pay more attention to the details in atmosphere. that is certainly not like what your simplified equation is saying. |

that's the paragraph that i quoted in my post la.
my point was that your EQUATION is so simplified that it look like you're saying Asian is about FOOD, and non-Asian is about PLACE. it's not something like Asian - 30% place, 70% food non-Asian - 70% place, 30% food (that's something like how you put it, put it any % you may) if you read carefully, the entire article, you'll see that it doesn't say that way. it just says that Euros pay more emphasis on trappings. and while the example is on China, that doesn't mean non-Asians don't pay for expensive food either. get it? again i re-iterate my point - I'm saying that both side are paying premium for FOOD and PLACE, just that non-Asians place more emphasis on the atmosphere. assuming if we go by equation. perhaps you could scale it like Asian = 100% food, 100% place Non-Asian = 100% food, 110% place not going to argue on who appreciates more, but the % above is just to illustrate my point. i hope this is clear already. if not then i donno how to better explain to you. hammy, have you decide on what kind of ambient or food you want?
it'll help narrow down the choices, or else you'll get stupid stuff like KFC / MCD which the average person couldn't finish RM 15 meal. if you consider those tex-mex places like TGIF / Chilis and all, +/- average person could come to around 30 - 40 only unless they order stuff like steaks or ribs. so do consider your options well. take photo, maybe you'd want brighter environment in case none of them have the skill / equipment to handle dark environment. |

QUOTE(wptan @ Dec 15 2009, 02:25 AM) fine dining mah.. you're paying for the environment as well not just that la.fine dining often it's not about quantity but about savouring what the chef has specially selected and delicately setup. it's about experiencing the unique. QUOTE(kampungboycitygal @ Dec 15 2009, 10:40 AM) in that case, i'll present to you the fine dine ala budget style list thenĀ thanks - glad to have you on my blogroll (many months liao lor........). http://kampungboycitygal.com/2009/02/valen...-ii-the-budget/ besides those, sometimes hotels do have Valentine's day package with the somewhat FINE dining items. they're special in their way and price is also high. |
