MYR hehe, sorry. If don't count SP discount is RM107 per person for 1/2 starter, pasta and dessert, with no wine = that is expensive to me when the food wasn't anything fancy.

SP got 3 hotels with 3 italian restaurants mah, so have to try. Food-wise it's Prego > Favola > Villa Danieli (my opinion lah). But decoration/ambience wise VD blows the other two out of the water.

Not to blogwhore, so feel free not to click, but angus house.

Anyway of the 3 restaurants, I've only been to Angus House, so can't comment on the other 2. Angus serves pretty good steak (and nothing else). Expect to pay about $100 per person. In my opinion Prime is much better, but also twice the price (unless you can bum a starwood card off somebody. or buy your own).

@apis/putra/kons > wow you guys weren't kidding, Essence was a disappointment. lucky use that starwood voucher so my wallet was 'safe,' would have been pretty pissed off if i had actually paid the 100-bucks (or whatever) per person.

blogpost here if anyone's interested.

Putra and I are big fans of Prego in The Westin KL. Great food, nice ambience, and you'll easily get by with only paying $50/pax (without wine). For 'nicer' ambience Villa Danieli in Sheraton Imperial KL or Favola in Le Meredien KL. Check blog for reviews.

I also hear good things about the Nero group of restaurants (Neroteca and Nerovivo), but never been there myself.

Anyway putra/kons ... beat you guys to it! Blackmore Wagyu Set at Prime hehe. You'll also notice that the steak doesn't look ANYTHING like the promotional materials/pictures. Bordering on false advertising tongue.gif

If you're not a really heavy eater, order 1 set + 1 add-on starter enough for 2 people and will come up to about ~$350 only.

Is it for real or just use your food imagination to write this?

You'll have to try it for yourself to find out! Haha. It might be an exaggeration. Or maybe not. In any case it's part truth, partly put in purposely to tempt you guys to go try too XD

@kons I'm not a big earner ler, just that I have low commitments. drive small car, live in small house, weekdays super frugal, only 2-3 times a month eat nice.

30 days = 60 meals, 3 meals @ rm200 = rm600, 54 meals @ rm5 = rm270, still under rm1k a month for food mah, totally under control smile.gif

Compared to for example photography as a hobby: one 70-200mm f/2.8 is like 8k, can eat at prime once a week for almost a year already smile.gif

thumbup.gif  What you eat RM5/dish leh?

off topic! lol ok so maybe I don't eat so frugally all the time. But I only go Prime-level spending once a month, and Prego-level spending another 2-3 times a month, but the rest of the month is rm10 or lower per meal. Combined makan for me + gf is way less than rm2k/mth which I guess is OK for our combined earnings level.

@eric >> what's the price range for your meal there?

@putra argh I just went to Prego on Tues night, should've posted that offer earlier tongue.gif

Hmmmmmmm ... what's the catch? Seems like I can make a reservation for 2, pay $40 for dinner, and then get free B4 voucher (I guess it's for 1pax) ... worth $150?

@samlee rm350 is only cos of ultra-top-range steak. normal trip to prime, under rm200 also can eat full for 2 ppl - and even then it's not lousy meat, it's black angus/usda prime. if you're not very very big eater, go for 1x appetizer, 1x steak and 1x side, plus the free bread it's enough for 2. recommendations are crab cakes, aussie black angus rib-eye (grain fed), and the truffle mash potato. Make sure don't fall into the "still or sparkling water" trap biggrin.gif

@putra wahaha still worth it mah. made reservation for this saturday at prime, two of us eat ... warm water, 1x sotong and 1x pizza, $70, don't use card and get $150 voucher for B4,

Went to sage last night for dinner. A little disappointed, but could be more because of sky-high expectations after reading tons of great food blogger reviews.

Just got back from Villa Danieli. Went back there to use the Starwood 50% group dining voucher. Pics/review later, but I was pretty pissed off at the waiters. First they screwed up the voucher and input a 25% discount instead of 50%. Then after they got that rectified, bill was rm3xx.xx --> I gave them credit card and they mis-typed it as rm5xx.xx. wtf? lucky i checked properly otherwise rugi few hundred for nothing.

Doubt I will ever go back. Food is expensive, portions are small, and honestly of all the dishes I tasted tonight, most of them were just mediocre.

hmm i'd go for the illy thing if only just to meet up with you guys, haha. but i dunno, i'm not a coffee person, and also not really impressed with favola's food, so $80 a bit exp in my opinion.

speaking of prime, wagyu thick skirt rm128 only woh (september promotion). not familiar with this cut of beef though ...

@carson i've never been to (or heard of) the restaurant, but between Bon Ton and Cafe Cafe I'd go for Cafe Cafe every time.

@feikei not particularly disagreeing with you, but just who came up with this 'definition' of fine dining that you listed out? smile.gif

2010-2011 just released, Malaysia has one spot on the top 20 ... #8 (Cilantro Restaurant & Wine Bar)

QUOTE
Not only is Cilantro Kuala Lumpur’s prime destination for French-Japanese cuisine, it has also long been considered the Malaysian capital’s finest restaurant. Helmed by Chef Takashi Kimura, Cilantro takes pride in everything it offers – even pre-meal bread and butter. The butter, for example, is Takashi’s own decadently rich, aromatic, well-refined butter, while the bread is served warm and fresh. Cilantro’s menu changes depending on availability of ingredients, so dishes can take on an European style mere days after the menu features Japanese cuisine. Despite this, the food remains of an impressive quality, exhibiting Takashi’s culinary intelligence.

Prefer to eat buffet style

Buffet style means you are in the wrong thread whistling.gif

Anyway the best buffets I guess would be Lemongrass in Shang and Latest Recipe in Le Meridien. shook doesn't have buffet. Oh, and if anyone says 'jogoya,' put them on permanent ignore.
