I went to Bon Ton and I was severely disappointed. For RM190 (for 2 people) excluding wine, I really expected more. The ambience is only so-so (what's with the cement floor????), service is only so-so, and food is only above average.

Hmmm got a dinner appointment with my ex-gf next week (to celebrate her birthday, zzzz). Where ah? I don't particularly feel like spending too much money ... rm100 for 2 people already enough, dun give me any suggestions like cafe cafe that's like rm250 for 2 people ...

If you're talking about the michelin star, I don't think they even come to Malaysia at all, do they?

Anyway Olive up in genting is supposed to be one of the best, never tried though. Sage in Gardens residences, I hear a lot about that too. Otherwise there's always La Fite.

loon sing only certain dishes are really good, the rest ok-ok only.

i like the tungpo yuk (black). also they got one dish i forgot the name, it's like a fist-sized prawn ball with strands of ... uh ... edible decoration ... haha don't know how to describe.

but i've never tried their super exp stuff. like the rm250/pax fat *** cheong, walau ... that is half my monthly food budget ...

Yea seriously. The Kanna that I go to in Puchong, if don't carefully control what I ask for one person bill can reach rm20 ... it's like rm5 for the basica banana leaf, rm5 for quail, rm3 for cutlet, rm7+ for sotong, etc etc ...

sigh, if fine ingredients but bad chef, also lousy

just like now i still beh tahan my RM90 angus was cooked by lousy people instead of the real chef, end up it taste worse than the normal ribeye that cost half of the price at other place i ate.....

are you sure we're talking about the same jake's here? cos i distinctly remember U.S. non-angus rib-eye is already like rm108.

haha sorry misunderstanding on my part. cos you earlier said jakes is bad then posted about bad rm90 angus so I thought you were elaborating about jakes tongue.gif

anyway for what it's worth, i went to san francisco steakhouse for the first time over the weekend, it is obviously not fine dining (but still quite pricy, rm150 for 2 with no drinks/wine), but the steak/ribs quality nothing to shout about also.

i guess steak really have no choice, must pay top dollar to get the best cuts sad.gif

cafe cafe KL (jalan maharajalela) could be a good idea, mostly cos the deco is very very nice. can possibly fit your budget too if you're careful with the menu.

Starwood Privilege 2 Person, discount 50%

I just paid the $$$ for my own SP card a week ago, can't wait for it to come. $45 per person in Prego is damn cheap if you consider that go secret recipe order lamb shank + cake already is about that.

Yup....Very worth. If your card doesn't arrived yet, just ask them to issue a letter. It takes a bout 2-3 weeks though. After card, my lamb shank risotto just cost 32 bucks.

Mine arrived this morning. Going to prego tonight, lol. I'll make it a point to order things that you didn't order!

Still waiting for your dishes.

I went but in a moment of idiocy I forgot to pack an SD card for my camera, so no pictures T_T

The water cost $19.20 @_@ ... had the calamari (which was a little chewy), and the Prego pizza (couldn't resist ... where else can you get lobster on a pizza?) Haha. Will visit again and make sure I bring my full camera along this time.

Server asked me "sparkling or still water?" ... stupidly said "still" and so I got a 1-litre bottle of what was basically mineral water. $24 before SP 20% discount =\ ... I saw your last bill had no drinks, you ate without drinking?

More abuse - favola. nice food nice ambience but crap service. If I'm paying $100+ per person, I expect (i) not to have to wait 15minutes when I have a confirmed reservation, and (ii) not to have to wait half an hour before my water glass is filled ... and even then only cos I gave up waiting and asked.

Why no hotel? Lafite in Shangri-La is pretty much the best French dining place in KL. Never been there though, can't afford. Otherwise Cafe Cafe KL is also french, but that's more for the ambience than the food quality. $100-$150/pax.

@putraskyline >> couldn't do any comparison cos i hadn't eaten the same type of food in both places, but tonight i can! excuse the poor quality pics cos i didn't have my cam with me (taken using iphone). the signature pasta is awesome, the tangy marinara sauce with seafood was just heavenly.

pizza was crap though ... not sure if the chef had an off day or what, but the sauce soaks into the dough way too quickly and the 2nd slice onwards you're just chewing on a soggy mess.

tiramisu was also crap. well actually it wasn't. it was nice, but definitely NOT tiramisu (it's like mascarpone cheese ... with some pop rocks ... and chocolate/coffee jelly layer).

what turns me of favola is the service. i've been here twice and both times they did unacceptable blunders - for this visit, they gave me a spoon that was wider than the bottom part of the dessert glass ...

managed to find my coupons. they were in my laptop bag doh.gif ...

anyway what exactly is Malay fine dining? Went to living room for their complimentary set dinner, and uh ... for $98/pax the price I guess qualifies for 'fine dining' level but the food is uh ... the quality/taste was great, but the style wasn't much different from uh ... those Malay nasi campur shops ...
