HI, can someone recommend me a romantic fine dining restaurant? Planning for a couple birthday dinner.
I been to Lobsterman and Cafe Cafe last years. So, any recommendation? Budget around 300. Restaurant alike cafe cafe or any better?

Appreciated your input.

RM100 per head for fine dining? Only available for lunch at Lafite. Hard to find dinner at this budget.

Say NO to that kinda attitude.
Make the food also taste bad.

Try that at Qba, where 2-3 waiters take turn to pressure you to have a cocktail or to order some dish they recommend. Let's face it people, no such thing as fine dining in this country. Pretend fine dining yes, real fine dining no, because the "software" part always fail miserably.

Quite simple to make actually.. =)

With regards to fine dining, I like Sage (western / Japanese inspired) or Li Yen (Chinese fine dining)...

Lafite I find over rated. La Vie En Rose - I don't like French food.

I'm going UK for holiday/brother's wedding in Sept so I was just checking out some of the celebrity restaurants over there, and was amazed at just how cheap some of them are.

Example Gordon Ramsay's 3-star restaurant has a gbp45 3-course set lunch; his 2-star place has a gbp30 3-course set lunch. if you don't convert (earn gbp spend gbp kind of thing), this is so damn cheap! Over here you want anything comparable, it'll be like 2-3 times the price rclxub.gif

You are not comparing apples to apples.

If you eat in a decent Indian restaurant in the UK, it costs twice as much than here too. Try eating in Gordom Ramsay's for dinner. Lunch is obviously cheaper as people in Europe generally have light lunches (sandwiches / salad / soup meals).

Additionally, it is obvious that western/continental cuisine in western/continental Europe will cost cheaper than in Asia. This is due to prices of ingredients which can be sourced locally/regionally.

Explain it how you like, the fact remains that a UK fresh grad would need to pay "just" gbp 30/45 to sample 2/3mich star food, as compared to a Malaysia Fresh Grad who pays rm150 at Cilantro, or rm100 at Sage.

[edit] moving up the scale to the big $$ items, it's no different. dinner at gordon's 3-star joint is gbp125 for 7-course dinner, gbp155 for degustation. Cilantro, which probably wouldn't even get 3 stars, is rm260++ for 4 courses, rm320++ for degustation.

The fact also remains, that one can also sample award winning fine dining local / regional food at RM 30- RM 45 per person for lunch in KL. =)

where?

[edit] don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to argue or be hostile or whatever. neither am i saying omg malaysia no michelin stars so food is lousy; on the contrary there's tons of food that's awesome but which the gwailos would be all like "dafuq, this table is so dirty and i'm sitting next to a drain." But with respect to "fine dining" ... rm 30-rm50? is that really possible?

by malaysian standards, i would say we do have joints like Songket, Ibunda, Subak, Bunga Emas that dont break ur bank at prices below RM100/head. maybe even rm50/head also ok.

but yes, other country standard of living is better, that cannot be deny and once compare liddat there will be no end to it.

it would be better to stick to local context in this area.

Bombay Palace (Indian), Li Yen (Chinese), Bijan (Malay), Nero Vivo (Neo-Italian), Ciao (Italian)... One need only do a little research.

Obviously things would be more expensive if you had imported products (i.e. French/Italian produce). It boils down to supply chain.

Lunch menu at Maze, St John, Hinds Head in London are proper and not light.

For similar menu and rating, find restaurant price in KL is more expensive than Europe, Australia and U.S.A.

Rental, labour cost are cheaper in KL. For fine dining, food cost is less than 30% of price.

Hi Need recommendation for a nice fine dining for 2 (dinner). It is for my gf birthday.

Date: 21st August Tuesday. Just happened to be still Hari Raya Holiday so not sure if this will affect the price and availability of restaurant.

We have never tried any fine dining together before. The "finest" we have tried is Monte's at Bangsar during valentine's day and I find it still very casual.

So this round I hope to let both of us experience something more "fine" ... real quiet, romantic dining experience perhaps with a bottle of red wine.. though im not really good with wine. But I wish to experience and learn from this.

My budget about rm 200-300 per person.

Currently thinking of Sage, Mid Valley Garden. Not sure if my budget allowed. Any other option? I am open for suggestion. I have tried Cafe Cafe...with friends. I find the place a bit tight and troublesome to find parking. Though I think can be good experience for my gf too. Le Midi Bangsar? seems like they have a very nice view.

Pls suggest! Thanks! notworthy.gif
