The top ones you see at AppStore are the ones most recommended. The free or the paid ones. People get them because they are good.

@Masamune,
If I'm not mistaken, if U do decide to break the contract and buy the phone outright, total cost comes up to about HKD8000++ - I came across an article on it just the other day - will try to look it up again and post it here later `k? Ahh.. here it goes : Where to get an unlocked iPhone 3G in Asia? This post has been edited by tinkerbel: Jul 22 2008, 08:40 PM |

QUOTE(stringfellow @ Jul 22 2008, 03:21 PM) I do not know, as I have not tried this. it shouldn't be unlocking but activating. i bought 2 8gb iphones at Telstra (aus) and they had to activate the phone afterwhich i called a number to unlock the phone. i had to use itunes to restore the iphone to ensure it is unlocked.I unlocked mine using US iTunes, Psyeo uses his NZ iTunes, but the phones are from NZ. If you look at this logically, iTunes is just an instrument for unlocking, and it does not matter which region of iTunes is used during the activating. To be safe, I suggest using iTunes regions that already have an iPhone launch, otherwise a red flag may trigger in Apple HQ about you activating it using a non-launch country and may result in complications later. unlocked will be able to use with any telcos. NZ phones aren't locked in the first instance so there's no need to unlock. |

Australia iphones are locked to the telco which sells them.Appreciated if you can elaborate more on this. Say if you buy from Optus, it will be locked to Optus. If you buy from Telstra, it will be locked to Telstra. You will have to activate the iphone before it can be used. This is different from unlocking. Spring activated the iphone himself using iTunes. Some people do it at home but most of them had their phones activated at the store. You have to request for the telco to unlock the phone and pay the unlocking fee. Different telco different prices. Then the telco will ask Apple to unlock the iphones by the imei. You got to check on your own using iTunes to see if the iphone is unlock. You have to do a restore in order to know that the phone has been unlocked. *this part you can ask the telco how to do it or you can google for the procedures* If you are interested, I can set up a simple guide, but not now cos I'm flying off tonite. and NO, you cannot unlock the iphone yourself yet. @zijian,
Yes if Ur planning to get a phone from Australia the best deal would be the Optus prepaid one. If I'm not mistaken, the 16GB will cost U AUD925 - make sure ur friend get Optus to UNLOCK the phone before he brings it back. |

@zijian,
You're going to haf to take the risk then. And, U should tell ur friend:- 1) Go into Optus shop. Ask for 16GB iPhone 3G. 2) Purchase it on the Prepaid Plan 3) Get Optus to activate the phone (Phone is now usable in Australia thru Optus) 4) Tell Optus U want them to unlock the phone LEGALLY (Optus is authorised to unlock the iPhones) 5) There will be a surcharge of AUD80 for unlocking the phone [but I oredi included that in the AUD925 price I mentioned] 6) Optus authorises the unlocking (Phone should now be unlocked and usable on any network around the world) 7) Double check to make sure it's been unlocked As to whether it works here in MY - let me know when U've done it |
