She is in very good shape now. I would say she could make it to quarters definitely, semi is also possible. But to win, she's going to have to come up with something extremely special.

Dinara, Ivanovic, Jankovic, all pretty much in top form in this slam this time.

Solid match by Roddick, nothing too fancy. Pretty much quite an easy match from him, but Gicquel certainly had some very nice defense in the third set. At one point, he took every shot A-Rod gave him, from deep penetrating forehands to volleyes, Gicquel returned it all. Too bad he couldn't keep his form up.

Couldn't believe Stosur won Dementieva. One of the upsets of the day.
Of course, probably the biggest upset of the day is Djoker got swept out by... Kohlscreiber? Damn. He came out of no where once again.

Added on May 31, 2009, 2:44 amFed won, but awesome awesome run by Matheiu. His accuracy was spot on. Great penetrating shots too.

I see another Nadal-Federer final shaping up.
From the way Roger's playing he'll end up being crushed again if he is to meet Nadal.
*
Thats the same thing everyone said in the Madrid open. Who's the winner at the end then? rolleyes.gif
Never say never until the final point has been played and won.

That's why, never say never until the last point has been played and won. From the start I already expected the French Open to be extremely challenging, doesn't mean Nadal has won all the time means he'll win again.

Murray vs Federer at finals maybe? laugh.gif
Way too early to say. Monfils doing extremely well, Tsonga is in top form. Roddick is playing solid matches too. Heck, we may just see Gonzalez pop a suprise as well. Not to forget, today's big winner... Soderling.

Lots of great matches today:

Tommy Haas, Germany, vs. Roger Federer (2), Switzerland
Juan Martin del Potro (5), Argentina, vs. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (9), France
Tommy Robredo (16), Spain, vs. Philipp Kohlschreiber (29), Germany
Andy Roddick (6), United States, vs. Gael Monfils (11), France

Suprise, suprise. Monfils, Tsonga, Kohl, Robredo, all 4 of them didn't do well throughout the entire clay-court season. Look where are they now. laugh.gif

Another suprise by Kohlschreiber maybe? Heck I expect Tsonga to beat Del Potro too.

Actually Kohlschreiber beat Roddick before, in Australian Open 2008, in 5 sets... So i won't really find it a surprise if Rod gets beaten here in French Open, especially when clay isn't his best surface, but he has improved alot lately...

I think Federer's biggest opponent is still Murray, who seems to be getting better with each match.. and of course Murray has beaten Fed alot of times... except in last year US Open final!
*
Yeap true.
But the thing with Kohl is that he's like Nalbandian. Only once in a blue moon he'll come up in top form and virtually no one is able to stop him. But in any case, lets see how well Roddick fares against another great clay courter today, Monfils. Looks like he is going all out, diving and sliding here and there.

Agreed on Murray getting better each match. He has improved tremendously on clay surface this year. But again, that is of course Murray makes it past to face Fed too. As seen in this open, anything can happen. Heck, it may not be Fed vs Murray in the finals even. Everything is still wide open.

And if Federer met Murray in the final, Murray has a better chance to win sweat.gif
*
Too early to make assumptions like that.
Thats like saying, if anyone were to meet Nadal on clay, Nadal will always have the better chance to win.

Now we just saw Nadal lost in Madrid open finals and Nadal just lost again yesterday.
Anything can happen.

If assumptions like that were to be made, Murray has never beaten Federer in a Grand Slam before.

fuih...tough game for fed, but grats he pulled it out...guess the toilet break rejuvenated him again rclxms.gif

God knows what he did in the toilet.... laugh.gif

Awesome comeback in the third set though. Fourth set was total ownage over Haas.
At one point in the 5th set, Haas actually had the chance to come back. But didn't execute the opportunity properly.

Now lets see if Roddick or Monfils wins the next match. If its another Federer vs Roddick.... Well, I've already lost count how many times Federer has won over Roddick.

Only if Murray suceeds that is. Anything can happen.

Del Potro playing rather solid now against Tsonga. Not taking too many aggresive chances. Up 1 set.

hahahaha....

No more Murray vs Federer then. If theres one thing this French Open has thought everyone, don't make assumptions.

Monfils is playing extremely well too.
Federer.... you need to go back to your old self now.

yea, i was thinking about this earlier on. last few years, its like, roger gets into the finals, then loses to rafa, and everyone is like" oh, its ok.(its not sad.gif ) its rafa... roger did well but rafa is king of clay" i mean, everyone expects rafa to win anyway, and 2nd place is all roger has to get. but now with no murray, rafa and novak, if roger dont do well, ppl are gonna say: roger, u r crap. sad.gif  so yea, i too am nervous.
*
lmao...

The king of clay is no more, he got dethroned. Plain and simple.
Rafa is no more the king of clay.

Uhmmm.... it's more like, the players just got better at clay. It's not Rafa all the time okay. Soderling has improved tremendously on clay, Murray has as well but still have a bit of inmature thinking, Roddick also has improved alot on clay.

Federer as well, has improved on clay believe it or not.

Only Rod Laver has done that....

Federer? His last chance to do it next year, as he'll be approaching the 30 year-old mark. Called an old-man in tennis. But hey, Andre Agassi was still winning in his early 30s..... whistling.gif

soderling and gonzalez now tied at 2-2.. bring the game to 5th set.. this can only be good news for federer, his opponents will be tired..
*
Thats too early of a statement is it not?

How would you know if Fed's match won't go up to 5th set or worst, 4 hours? He isn't the god of tennis you know.

Yea, head-to-head records isn't such a viable way for predictions. Sure hope there'll be great tennis after Gonz and Soderling's match. I'm waiting for it.

See what I said about the match not being short?
Now both Soderling and Federer has no argument in the so-called "who is more tired" issue.

Who plays better tomorow, simply is the best. That simple.

QUOTE(Bepeon @ Jun 6 2009, 01:36 PM)
Lolz. He couldn't control much because almost every Del Potro's first serve was over 210kph, which was extremely hard for him to receive with his one handed backhand....  But at the end i think pressure fell upon Del Potro and he couldn't make his first serve that easily.... so Federer took the advantage. On the sidenote, Federer actually started to serve more first serve as well, like 80% of his serve was first serve in the last set....

So i think Federer won because he himself improved + Del Potro's level dropped abit due to pressure.
*
Yea.

Del Potro started to drop on his first serves in the last set. Couldn't return Fed's first serves properly either. He also does look kind of tired in the last set already, even when it isn't sunny anymore(don't compare their "sunny" to Malaysia's "sunny", night and day difference).

Either ways, Del Potro has improved hell alot since Aus Open. Playing very solidly in every much in this French Open, gave Federer a hell of a hard time like it or not.

Oh and btw, Fed took the bathroom break again... didn't rejuvenated him as much this time, but it still worked!! Oh lord knows what he really did in tharrr... brows.gif laugh.gif
