QUOTE(kikurazz @ Sep 11 2008, 09:09 PM) to all gurus in Japan - need some advice/guidance | thought of posting it in the travel to Japan thread but looks pretty quiet there, so i'll try my luck here 100k yen - 200k yen should be enough for a shopping spree and going around.i'll be in Tokyo in Oct for business trip and i'm planning to extend my stay since i'm meeting up with my gf in Tokyo anyway, first and most importantly - roughly how much Yen should i be bringing? 5 days accomo are paid for, so literally i'll be forking out for 2 nights extra 100K yen? 200K? (noob question, pardon me) - roughly how much per meal? say average dinner for 2? 2ndly, any good hotel to recommend - i've tried doing some googling but all looks very identical on the net and really spoilt for choice central tokyo area would be nice since my gf is a shopping freak! anyhow, look forward hearing some recommendation and help here cheers guys Average dinner per meal would be ranging from 100 yen to 1000 yen, depending on the places. 2 people would be 2000 yen+ maximum. Which area in Central Tokyo are you planning to stay at? There are lots of shopping areas in central, from Shibuya all the way up to Ginza. In a way, why not the 2 night extra just stay at your gf place instead of a hotel? |

I tot 100 yen is bout RM3/- only. Can get that cheap ar??? I thought jpn eat very expensive? At that price it would be cheaper than alot of place in Malaysia wor? Hmmm since getting a h/phone would be quite impossible becoz of technology diff, perhap does anybody knows about prices of digital video camcorder over there, compared with Malaysian prices? Was thinking of getting a Sony Full HD Video Camcorder w HDD / DVD (HDR-SR11E/HDR-SR10E/HDR-UX20E)? Any idea hows the mkt price over there? Buy from 100 Yen shop, re-heat in microwave Not sure about prices or comparisons with Malaysia's price, I'm not into those things And its been a long time since I went back Malaysia That is why I told earlier, best to check the price in Malaysia first, then come here do the comparisons |

QUOTE(kikurazz @ Sep 12 2008, 05:57 AM) meeting up as in she flies in from kl and i fly in from oz. all i know is i'll be staying in Roppongi area for the 1st 5 nites and all the meetings will be scattered around so probably i'll be looking at the 2 nights at some other part of central tokyo The most popular choice as always is the Sakura Hotel --> http://www.sakura-hotel.co.jp/ Most of us that are staying in Japan have our own houses/dormitory, so hotel-wise information would always be best to come from those who have been here before as a tourist. QUOTE(asuk @ Sep 12 2008, 09:20 AM) can you tell me the directions to get there from tokyo stn? seems like quite far from central tokyo. let me know if its worth going It is indeed worth it -- I went to the Chiba one last time before it moved to Tochigi But decided not to go today, got work to do (tonight got date, go see movie) Maybe next week For directions using train, you can use the link that tanoshi provided, and double check the search result with this --> http://www.jorudan.co.jp/english/norikae/ The destination to go is Omochanomachi Station. Here is the link for maps from the official Bandai Museum website: http://www.bandai-museum.jp/goriyou/index.html ![]() ![]() |

QUOTE(kikurazz @ Sep 14 2008, 09:17 PM) firedauz - nice shot - Mt.Fuji? Yup, just came back this evening anyway, i've got my accomodation sorted, opted for Shinjuku since i'll be in Roppongi for 5 days now another question (pardon my ignorance/noob-ness), how to travel around tokyo? any pass that let you roam around JR and other lines? i dun quite like the idea of having to buy a ticket everytime i wan to travel around As tanoshi and clemong had answered your question, I'll let in you 2 tips: 1. If its a JR pass that you want (as you didn't mention discount pass or anything similar), added to that you prefer to have 1 ticket than to buy again and again, buy the SUICA card at the JR ticket booth. Its like a reload card (not a discount card), which means for example if you buy a 2000 Yen SUICA Card, you can use it at any JR station with the same of payments for the travel, but only with 1 card (until the 2000 yen is finished, and you have to reload again at the ticket booth). 2. Press the English language button at any of the JR station ticket booth; almost 99% of them have it QUOTE(tanoshi @ Sep 14 2008, 09:21 PM) GOGOGO! Several things to do while you are at Mt Fuji: - Snap pictures and videos (bring extra battery and memory storage devices if you want). - Take a rock sample from Mt Fuji high places. It was an active volcano a long time ago, so just take the rocks as a free souvenir. - Write a postcard message and send it back to your house address. It's your official proof that you had been to Mt Fuji |

Extra pic before answer question
This is my proudest moment at Mt Fuji: the 2nd bright sunrise! (yes, the sun rises twice on that same morning lol) ![]() QUOTE(kikurazz @ Sep 15 2008, 10:49 AM) ok sounds easy from here. i reckon on JR alone you can go aces literally to anywhere in Tokyo? A very good question, and I have a very good answer for you and everyone else: YAMANOTE LINE i know there are heaps on lines in Tokyo and just to be on the safe side, i dun wan to jump off at the wrong station so sticking to one line sounds like a safe bet Sauce: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamanote_Line ![]() ^ as you can see the route map of JR Yamanote Line, it goes to almost ALL the popular places in Tokyo! Shibuya, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Akihabara, Shimbashi (go down here to take a train to cross over the sea to the Odaiba Island), Ikebukuro, Harajuku, etc! And, its an unending circle route, which means that if you will not get lost anywhere since it will always be going around in the same circle! If you wanted to go to Akihabara but you overslept and thus overshot until the next station (lets say Kanda), don't worry! Get down in Kanda, and take another Yamanote Line that goes the opposite way, back to Akihabara QUOTE(sai @ Sep 15 2008, 11:31 AM) hi, im planning on visiting japan in mayb next year dec...currently looking for advice... Sakura House: http://www.sakura-house.com/- going to visit area near tokyo/akiba (will be focusing on akiba) - hoping to go comiket also i) any recommendation on accomodation? planning to go for 1 month, will be sharing with a few frens...wanted to find a cheap place and preferably near to public transport Sakura Hostel: http://www.sakura-hostel.co.jp/ Sakura Hotel: http://www.sakura-hotel.co.jp/ Most are nearby the train stations And about the next upcoming Comiket: Sauce: http://www.comiket.co.jp/index_e.html --> The next Comiket in Tokyo Big Sight (at Odaiba Island) will take place in the Winter, December 28,29,30 in 2008! |

QUOTE(sai @ Sep 15 2008, 02:35 PM) haha, nice...thx It depends from where to where you wanna go on Yamanote Line.do you happen to know the train fare for yamanote sen? ranging from how much to how much... wanna ask something, i m looking for room like small apartment with toilet, small kitchen, all in 1...then futons on floor tat can fit for 4-5persons... thru the sakura-house link, i see the apartment state the price for 1 person and 2 persons...does tat mean i cannot hav more than 2 persons living in? yea, aug and dec comiket =) going on dec to jan can celebrate xmas and new year there... Cheapest (from one station to just the following next station) is just 130 Yen. The most expensive (from one station to the totally opposite side of the line) would be around 250 Yen. Not sure for an answer regarding specific details for accommodations. Like I said before, for us who stayed in Japan, usually have our own personal houses/apartments. Guess you have to wait for that answer to come from those who had been here on a visit |

QUOTE(kikurazz @ Sep 15 2008, 05:17 PM) firedauz, i saw your Mario cap - looks freaking cool, i presume we can get it in elsewhere other than Odaiba right? I guess you can get it anywhere, its not really an official cap from Nintendo, just made at a Japanese embroidery shop But from where I bought it in Odaiba (its at one of the stalls in a big shopping complex called Aqua City), the seller had already made lots of it. So just go there & point to the cap on display and he will give a new one for you It's LYN Mario! ![]() It's Mario, Luigi & Wario! ![]() A better look at the shop: ![]() |
