Bro firedauz,
is it ok to carry on densha? hmm.gif

I'm not too sure because I don't have a foldable bike tongue.gif
Best to ask the station officer first before you attempt to do so.

Btw, here's an info I have from all my travels: Use the Seishun 18 Kippu wink.gif

The Seishun Juhachi Kippu, meaning something like "Youthful 18 Ticket", is a seasonally available railway ticket, which gives you five days of unlimited, nationwide travel on local and rapid JR (Japan Railways) trains for only 11,500 Yen, or 2,300 Yen per day!

I think i'll be going on friday aug 15th after comiket hahahaah~~ dragonball!!

May I ask howta get there from Kamakura Station? And, what time does this event ends? o.O
*
Starts from 9:30am to 4:30pm.

There will be a map outside of the station where it will show you how to get to the beach.
You can go there either by walking all the way by 15-20 mins or taking another train (forgot how much the fare, should around 190 Yen) to the Hase Station, and walk for 10 mins.

To get to the place at Kamakura Beach, just follow my map.
Hope its not too confusing tongue.gif

Eitherway, once you are at the beach, just ask anyone there on where is the JUMP shop at the beach, they will surely know about it biggrin.gif

QUOTE(mr lappy @ Aug 13 2008, 11:23 AM)
just a quick question...

i have somewhat a plan to go there next summer. looking at about 3weeks to a month(prob tokyo and kyoto). have never been there and can practically not speak japanese at all. i do understand a few words here and there but its as good as not understanding at all...

so my question is would i be in deep shyte in terms of communications?
*
No you won't biggrin.gif

And I shall bestow you with a tip on this, especially those that are not fluent in Japanese:

You can use English, BUT, it will only work in one of these conditions:

1. If you want to ask something from a Japanese person, look for them in these orders:
- Japanese young lady
- Japanese old lady
- Japanese young man
- Japansese old man

From survey here in Japan, young Japanese lady/girl/woman have the highest majority of fluency in English biggrin.gif
Of course, if you are near a train officer or any officer that you want to ask direction, they will be able to help you with all their translation books.

2. If you plan to say or ask something, say only the most important part of it. Just ONE or TWO is enough.

For example, you want to ask from a person on how to get to Shibuya.
In Japanese, you would go "Sumimasen, Shibuya doko desu ka?"
In English, it is "Excuse me, where is Shibuya?"

The shortest form you can ask from them would just be "Shibuya doko?" laugh.gif
Even easier if you are trying to ask from a train station officer; just go "Shibuya?" and they will help you find the direction biggrin.gif

The reason to speak with such short words is simple: If you try to be smart and ask a full sentence in Japanese, they will misunderstood you & think that you are fluent in the language, thus when they reply back in a full Japanese answer, you're a goner laugh.gif

It was free entrance on all 3 days thumbup.gif

Sugoi (correct word) or sugei (slang) just generally meant like 'nice', 'cool' or 'good stuff' biggrin.gif
(though in actuality, nice = kirai/kirei, cool = kak-kui, its just something to say in general) tongue.gif

what electronics are worth keeping an eye on?

camera? hardware?

It depends, just like how we do comparisons between prices in KL and prices when we head down to Singapore.
Almost anything can be cheaper OR otherwise.
Cameras and hardware are among those as well.

QUOTE(D-Tourist @ Sep 6 2008, 01:18 AM)
Hi everybody. Need some advice on Japan. Today I was at the Matta Fair and thinking of signing in for a Apple Holiday's Japan 3 nite Hokkaido (Toya-ko, Noboribetsu, Yubari, Otaru, Sapporo & Chitose) and 4nite Tokyo (Asakuso Kannon, Disneyland, Shinjuku&Ginza). The choice of travel period is between 28 September & 8 October. What do u all think about this period or places?

1) How is the weather? Would it be too cold for elderly ppl, especially in Hokkaido?

2)  I read in some guidebook that Aug-Oct is Typhoon period. Is that true and if so, then the trip would be spoilt if clashes with the typhoon?

3) Anything Must Try or Must Buy or Cheap Bargains in these regions?

Need advice asap coz need to book by Sunday liao. biggrin.gif
*
1. Weather these days are alternate, sometimes sunny, sometimes rainy.
That is for Tokyo, not sure for Hokkaido though now.
Google Weather shows Hokkaido is more or less the same as Tokyo.

2. It depends, the recent one had just past. More to come soon? I hope not tongue.gif
Aug-Oct is autumn season biggrin.gif

3. Autumn Sales lol laugh.gif

On the note, I think for Tokyo visit, since its 4 nights (that means 4 days or 5 days?):
- 1 day in Disneyland (yes, it is that BIG) biggrin.gif
- 1 day for Asakusa, Shinjuku & Ginza
- 1 day for Akihabara and Odaiba
- 1 day for Harajuku & Omotesando

Thanx.

Not that many days in touring tokyo. 1st nite is for taking domestic flight to hokkaido and return to tokyo another nite.
1 day disneyland. 1 day asakusa, shinjuku & ginza. Another day is checkout for flight returning to malaysia liao smile.gif
Most time spend in Hokkaido and only actual 2 full days for tokyo.

About the weather, how many layers of clothes are we looking at? to be comfortable warm? tongue.gif Coz afraid the elderly ppl cannot tahan lor.  Normally how many typhoon hits tokyo area around autumn mth.

Btw, some forum r saying japan is encountering somewhat frequent minor earthquakes. Is that true? Scared lah!

Its pretty warm for now.
But coming to entering winter season around October there, best to bring 1 winter jacket and a sweater inside.
Of course, you can always wear another t-shirt inside the sweater, making it 3 layers altogether.

In terms of Tokyo and Hokkaido, earthquakes are rare, more of light tremors.
But they are freakin fun to experience! thumbup.gif
