Finally booked the hokkaido-tokyo trip. Any advice or prep from u all sifu before "Japan here I come" tongue.gif

Added on September 7, 2008, 10:58 pmBtw is it cheaper to use japan's tel line to call back malaysia (what tel card and wat package-minimal use) or use Maxis roaming function to call back?

Added on September 7, 2008, 11:08 pmAnyone knows how long is the domestic flight from tokyo to chitose, hokkaido takes?

Added on September 8, 2008, 11:30 amAny more recommended stuff which are :

Must see, must try, must eat, must drink, must buy and must know for trip to hokkaido and tokyo

from all Japan Sifu other than those already discussed in this forum.
*
roaming wud be okay i guess but do check the rates. i think sms would be the best way to communicate with ppl back home.

its about 1 hr from tokyo to chitose.

hokkaido-other than tht ive mentioned, SEAFOOD. sushi. the ikura(roe),uni(sea urchin) are must tries as well as crabs. better u eat suhi in hokkaido than tokyo.

QUOTE(D-Tourist @ Sep 9 2008, 09:13 PM)
Some questions again =)

1) is it true that only 3G phone will be able to roam in Japan and older model with GSM cannot roam?

yes, if im not mistaken u must be using a 3g phone to roam here. i dont think there's a gsm network here.

2) are the phones in Japan cheaper than Malaysia? is it advisable to get one there?
*
not exactly. phones are heavily subsidized through contracts but u cant buy those as ure not staying here and its usually locked to the network. phones without contracts cost roughly the same.

Sorry to intrude but was a bit puzzled bout the average dinner starting from 100 yen...???  I tot 100 yen is bout RM3/- only. Can get that cheap ar???  I thought jpn eat very expensive? At that price it would be cheaper than alot of place in Malaysia wor? smile.gif

Hmmm since getting a h/phone would be quite impossible becoz of technology diff, perhap does anybody knows about prices of digital video camcorder over there, compared with Malaysian prices?

Was thinking of getting a Sony Full HD Video Camcorder w HDD / DVD (HDR-SR11E/HDR-SR10E/HDR-UX20E)? Any idea hows the mkt price over there?
*
technically one onigiri(rice ball) is 105yen which might be filling to certain people. but on average, u should plan 800-1500 for meals. def can get cheaper if u wanna go mcDs, yoshinoya,etc..

firedauz - nice shot - Mt.Fuji?

anyway, i've got my accomodation sorted, opted for Shinjuku since i'll be in Roppongi for 5 days
now another question (pardon my ignorance/noob-ness), how to travel around tokyo? any pass that let you roam around JR and other lines?
i dun quite like the idea of having to buy a ticket everytime i wan to travel around
*
subway/chikatetsu have day passes. not as convenient as jr's circle line but will get u to most destinations

o, train fare not tat expensive...still ok...i wonder how much is to go from 1 prefecture to another...
*
lols..it starts from 130yen. a four stop ride would be at least 200-300 yen i think.

about accomodation, i think u can book a whole room for hostels and they usually have a shared pantry with basic essentials.
