hi dude!
I learn before in ICLS (Inter Cultural Language School) KL Plaza...I think its cheap! some more the sensei is nohon jin...so you will learn exact slang...but me, useless huhuahahaha...only go to hang out with amoi lol huahahaha! In ICLS you can practice in reality conversation in japanese!
encourage you to look for nihon jin in Malaysia then make frenz...some sort like 'language exchange' but please dont get 'hook' with them, in Japan much more choices huahahaha...just kidding thumbup.gif

No you won't biggrin.gif

And I shall bestow you with a tip on this, especially those that are not fluent in Japanese:

You can use English, BUT, it will only work in one of these conditions:

1. If you want to ask something from a Japanese person, look for them in these orders:
- Japanese young lady
- Japanese old lady
- Japanese young man
- Japansese old man

From survey here in Japan, young Japanese lady/girl/woman have the highest majority of fluency in English biggrin.gif
Of course, if you are near a train officer or any officer that you want to ask direction, they will be able to help you with all their translation books.

2. If you plan to say or ask something, say only the most important part of it. Just ONE or TWO is enough.

For example, you want to ask from a person on how to get to Shibuya.
In Japanese, you would go "Sumimasen, Shibuya doko desu ka?"
In English, it is "Excuse me, where is Shibuya?"

The shortest form you can ask from them would just be "Shibuya doko?" laugh.gif
Even easier if you are trying to ask from a train station officer; just go "Shibuya?" and they will help you find the direction biggrin.gif

The reason to speak with such short words is simple: If you try to be smart and ask a full sentence in Japanese, they will misunderstood you & think that you are fluent in the language, thus when they reply back in a full Japanese answer, you're a goner laugh.gif

nice smile.gif i do know how to ask stuff like what you gave in your example but ill wont be able to undedrstand the answer given by them sweat.gif so ill go with your little neat 'trick' laugh.gif

1) another thing... fromers/lonely planet ect, are they any good in places in tokyo and kyoto? or just go join some sort of mini tour there to get myself familiarize and then only go 'langaring abouts' ?
im thinking of doing what i did when i was in budapest, clutching my fromers and walk around the city and go 'langar-langar' sweat.gif

2) early summer(july) or late summer (late aug-late sep) ? would like to make it for winter or easter instead but unlikely i will be able to due to the timing of my course...

3) 'backpacking' style of travelling in those 2 city... aka. no booking of accommodation(walk-in), would that be crazy/suicidal(not physically of course)? - just wanting your opinion/gut feel sweat.gif
why you might ask, i dont know if this particular trip would even materialize until the very last minute(around early july ish).
