What is a HDX Player you might ask. Well to me, its the future and a whole new way to experience High Definition content minus the extra baggage.
Sure u might say that the PS3 does what the HDX does, but wait, why spend hours decoding and demux-ing HD content so that its playable on the PS3.
So far HDX (and other Syabas 8634 players) are the only devices that are capable of displaying .mkv content.

The 1st FW is for the player, and the second one is to update the HDD apps if u got a HDD installed in the player.

Added on July 2, 2008, 5:05 pmYou will need to have the prev FW b4 the new FW can be updated.

So sad. I gave up downloading MKV files since the tragedy that my HDD broke down. I've lost about 250GB of movies. Took months to download them. When I have time to download again, I would seriously consider this again.

Movies have different aspect ratio.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspect_ratio_(image)
most movies are not filmed in full frame of 720p/1080p..that's why you get those black bars
if u download those HD movies...you will notice the black bars are cropped

Original Frame

Haven't try external USB DVD rom yet..coz haven't got one yet..
What's the brand that you have anyway?
I stream it directly from my PC..considering I just left it on most of the time to download stuff..most of the time I just stream the files from my pc because the playback is much more stable/no stutters even fast forwarding is more faster than using the external HD.. rclxms.gif

Went to the shop looking for it..they say it's out of stock..I notice there was Pioneer/Panasonic/whatever HT starts with P brand under >1k..probably getting one if I still can't get the one from Sony
Just plug in the LAN cable from HDX to the Wireless Router...then use myiHome apps for sharing those movies..I think this a lot better because this can detect subs..unlike WMP thumbup.gif

So if i use this to play MKV, what kind of options do i get? Is there any function to turn on/off deblocking, changing subtitle color or position and other more advance options? I am thinking of geting this instead of upgrading my PC to be able to playback 1080p content.

Latest firmware update gives more subtitle options like changing color/font size/subs position/subs time delay which is more than enough for me
dun think there's the deblocking option..even on other NMP ..in fact I never bother much about tweaking other settings when playing mkv's on my pc before this coz the picture quality is already superb thumbup.gif
what surprises me is the smooth 1080p playback for HD-X.. before this I wasn't expecting much because of really high bitrate+resolution... rolleyes.gif

This is the way to go for HD content.
In fact it plays almost all the popular media files.
Come 720p or 1080p, this player just take it in and its sleek too.

The reason i ask about the deblocking is because some movies, especially those dark one like batman or underworld, without deblocking there will a lot of blocky effects popping out. If u are using CoreAVC with MPC on your PC, try to go into the preperties, and turn off the deblocking there. Some movie will be unwatchable. But i am not sure the processor inside this player will deblock it automatically, like some good DVD player did to DVD. I knew this particular video processor is a good one, but just being curious.

HDX1000 is out. Price is USD219. Cheaper than HDX900, which is USD240. rclxm9.gif
hope that it is locally available.

QUOTE
We are proud to Introduce you to our new NMT media player, the HDX 1000. Born in the same pedigree of the successful HDX 900 our new model catches up with the current hardware specifications while we reduced the expense on the units. We hope you agree we have outdone ourselves by creating an even more kick-ass feature packed digital media player. Our HDX 1000 is now equipped with HDMI 1.3a and capable of passing through the latest HD digital audio format such as DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR, Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus.

We have acquired the necessary license to decode DTS to avoid customers need to have a DTS decoder or convert their .dts movies. This increases the convenience for the customer! (To be added via firmware update in September)

Besides the usual enhancements available from our competitors, we have included both Optical and Coaxial audio and a 3-in 1 Card reader (Memory Stick, SDHC and MMC) enabling direct access to photo and music files. We are a strong believer in efficiency for home entertainment and it should not come as a surprise we sticked to our believe of having a fan less quality design by using an aluminium alloy again.

Hmm, thanks for the reply, has been considering to get a HTPC, Mediaplayer or PS3 to be my mediacentre. I had been leaning towards HTPC(RMVB/Game/Internet) as it is still upgradeble but dont like the size which is a little bulky for me so down to Mediaplayer & PS3 and i think Mediaplayer is a more worthy investment now.

Yes it can connect to the internet/stream videos from youtube and such/also can download movies using torrent/even downloading files with newsgroup(ur gonna have to visit nmt forums for further discussion about this part)...still I prefer to download just using my laptop/pc, a lot simpler
But damn...the new features for the hdx 1000 are certainly "kick-ass" worthy..got the composite output, not to mention they got dts license to decode dts audio..no need to encode back to ac3,hdmi 1.3 and the price is even cheaper than hdx 900, the only downside is the eSATA port missing, still I just stream the HD movies using LAN connection,
This is certainly gonna burn some more holes in my pocket LOL..gonna for wait some reviews for this player

What I would really like to see is a comparison between the HDX-1000 and Sarotech DVP-570X. http://www.sarotech.com/english/product/dvp-570x.html

The folks at Sarotech has added the DVP-570X with a fan hole for cooling, compared to the previous model, DVP-570S which lacks this fan. I know a normal SATA HDD will run at 40C or more without fan, even higher at closed environment. The HDX-900 review has confirmed this heat problem.

Would HDX-1000 address this issue?

I have a sarotech abigs DVP-570HD.....the older version with the DVI output.

it has a 40mm fan in it....and after several hours using it...it is only warm to touch...like your average electronic device.

please note that the HDMI output on the 570S and X are not ver1.3

Previous Dune models have been sold mainly in Eastern Europe. It's too early to say if this model will take-off, if there's not a big enough user base then the firmware won't be developed. There's more info at MPC Club.

NMT based players at the moment are getting regular firmware updates (the firmware is a work-in-progress). I've had an HDX 900 since May and so far have been very pleased with it. No problems with overheating - aluminium case is used as a heatsink (passive cooling, no fan) even though I've installed an internal hard disk. However I mainly use it as a front end for Swisscenter running on my server and don't put much on the internal hard disk.

oh somebody told me i was doing it the wrong way.. heres the proper way

forum extreemeplace gave a helpful faq on rma your hdx if u ever have problems....
You do not contact the singapore office (not sure whether can be contacted or not) for RMA. You need to:
1) Register an account at www.hdx1080.com website.
2) With this account, submit an RMA request at the support website. You will need to submit your order number as well, this will expedite thing. You will have a ticket number from this request.
3) They will send you an RMA form which you need to fill up with the RMA number. The RMA number is the ticket number from 2.
4) Lastly, you need to send the form together with your faulty component back to their RMA office in China. You have to pay for this yourself. After they have received your faulty component, they will send you a replacement with shipping paid by them.

also since i got the defective unit working .. no need to rma

more updates from the thread i been editing http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/788860/+100

Ever since I upgraded my HDX900 to the latest firmware my networking function seems to screw up vmad.gif Prior to the firmware upgrade the NMT can obtain DHCP from my router. Now the NMT could only get some funny IP which is not on the network range.

Wondering if this was caused by the latest firmware which might have some wireless networking driver in it???

Latest firmware is 50-17-080808-15-HDD-402-000. I haven't had a problem as you describe, I'm using a wired network.

PM me if you need 1.5TB Seagate Barracuda SATA HDD. The last time I was in Low Yat price range fromRM670-700 & indent order only. They dare not keep stock as they are afraid of price drop. I still have few units with me full warranty, 1st year 1 to 1 from disty & subsequent 4 year sent back to Seagate in USJ Summit.

This will be the first NMT Apps for me to try out. Stilling waiting for PosLaju to deliver my parcel.

Transcoding only not direct playback from the NMT. I was so happy when I see your post!

Did you try? It said transcoding on the fly. There for you can playback RMVB files directly.

Note from hdx1080.com

Great news for users who have tons of RMVB movies but was not able to play it back since the NMT does not support RMVB. This has changed with the introduction of Myihome v5.1.3 now supporting RMVB transcoding! This means that myihome will transcode the RMVB movies on the fly (depending on the speed of your processor) and you do not need to convert them 1 by 1, saving your precious time!

MyIhome runs on a PC, when I buy the NMT I intend to do away with the PC. If you do it this way might as well buy HTPC.

Finally have a chance to setup the HDX-1000 last night. The manual is only sufficient for basic stuff and suck in the advance feature like Samba share, advance setup, function in remote control etc.

Got a 1T WD GreenPower from Lowyat and installed NMT application, start transfering file via FTP and only found out that FTP can't do UNICODE filename, so only manage to discover SAMBA share and set unicode filename.

While in the middle of heavy file transfer (via router and WiFi from two PC to HDX-1000), it crashed a couple of times when you try to play movie at that time. Otherwise it is ok. Also disappointed to find out that there is no .idx/.sub bitmap subtitle support. Normal LAN transfer speed is around 5 to 7 MB/s.

I get ~ 8mbs when I transfer files between PCs at home. I wonder that is the normal speed for a 54mb router. hmm.gif

Yes, you will need a pc to play rmvb files. Install myIhome on the PC and network it to the HDX.

I kena con also. This sub is the text format in MicroDVD format. Bitmap not supported.

Chinese subtitle like Unicode encoded txt in .srt is support, provided you change the menu/language to Chinese in HDX first, otherwise you'll see funny characters.

It take about 15 secs to start stream the RVMB over to the HDX. I had a Pentium E2140 and it happily stream over the WiFi connection to the HDX-1000 with no issue. The only problem is with my old firmware it "hang" after stop playing RMVB file. There is a new firmware released a few days ago and I have yet to try it out yet.

Added on December 4, 2008, 12:11 amFor those who has Chinese Subtitle bitmap file and wanted to create your own Unicode .srt file, use IdxSubOcr. Remember to change all the "." into "," otherwise it won't be viewable.

Google it for download

1. no sound, unless u convert the audio trough ur pc then playback at the hdx
2. ac3 = dolby digital 5.1, the hdx shud have the internal decoding

if u plug in ur lcd, use hdmi will do, and set as stereo, for ac3 u will have sound, but for dts, no sound, tats it

Bata, you can still get the mkv with DTS, just download AudioConverter and it will automatically downmix it to 2 or 6 channels AC3. I personally would select 2 channels AC3 since DTS to analog decoding will come in the Dec firmware.

This thread seems to be dying!

For all NMT owners there's an interesting thread on the Community Software Installer CSI. This seems to be developing into a very neat package installer/repository for NMT devices. I would recommend you have a look.

Cheers!
