macam mana nak tangani masalah bulu kucing suka gugur?
sapa tau
*
bab bulu kucing ni susah sikit. different cat different skin and coat condition. just like human, ada orang muka licin berseri, ada orang memang ada jerawat, ada org banyak bulu, ada orang tak byk bulu ehehehehe. terlebih sudah tongue.gif

apa apa pun:

-kitten that moving towards adult age, will face bulu gugur.
-pemakanan yang kurang zat untuk coat and fur pun boleh buat bulu jadi tak kuat
-sensitive skin, skin disease will also make the coat is not as strong as before
-fleas, ticks, ringworm infection will also make this problem occur
-chemical usage, such as the shampoo and conditioner which is not suitable to the skin, fur and coat will also make it worst.
-lake of grooming will make your cat fur weak.
-kucing yang sudah neuter/spay will have better fur because they are not involve with sex mating stress. This stress will make your cat fur falls.

so all this you need to check. too much of it, like very very serious falling fur or making your cat botak, you better check with your vet.

at the end of the day, kucing memang akan gugur kan bulu yang lama dan tumbuh bulu yang baru. There's no cat yang tidak akan gugur bulu tongue.gif

most cases, fur fall because of their cats is not neuter/spay, fleas attack, ringworm attack, and less grooming.

if you groom your cat everyday, like sikat bulu dorang, you will face less fur, because you already comb it everyday.

hope u can help me wit the question.

i give her Royal Canin dry food for kitten n wiskes wet food.
n i dun really know what milk should i give him. now i gave him dutch lady full cream milk n he seem dont really like.
do u have any suggestion?
thanks

Hello AbBy_C, good to see you here.

What is your kitten age anyway? if it is more than 3 months old, you may want to skip that milk. Since kitten age 3 months need less milk, because they can eat 100% by them self. Kitten food is formulated with so much nutrition which is equivalent to milk.

at one point, some kitten will stop milk at the age of 1 1/2 months.

some kitten will have diarrhea when drinking milk. the best milk is always mother milk.

so, if your cat is more than 2-3 months, you can just give them Royal canin kitten food. and wiskes wet food maybe twice a week. that's consider good smile.gif.

amboi, bunyi macam Akademi Kucing jer tongue.gif.. AFUNDI ELFREAKZ hantar ke 32999 gitu? ahahahah laugh.gif

yang i bagitau tu base on experience saja. i'm not veterinary graduate anyway tongue.gif like people say, reading the book alone will not make you successful. You need to do practical and learn from the vet. thumbup.gif

yea most of it happen to first timer female cat who become mother. Selalu nya happen kalau female cat tu belum cukup usia untuk beranak. very less happen to mature female cat. belum cukup usia untuk become ibu tu is about 8 months old tu 14 months old. mature to become mother is above 14 months old. but some cats ada yang successful juga. bergantung lah pada kucing. and yes most unsuccessful labor and pregnancy is from DLH or long hair pure breed cats.

Regards.

El, camne nak comb bulu kat perut diorang tu? Geram tol.
*
yeah bawah perut yang bulu bergumpal gumpal tu kan. always happen kalau lepas mandi tak kering betul, and also when the cat lick/bath them self.

long hair cat, you need comb yang macam ni:

user posted image

You angkat or genggam tangan atas kucing tu.. the legs will still pijak lantai. then you comb the below part. make it fast, but don't push it too hard to the skin. if you cant dont like it, stop for awhile. and give some cat treat.

If the bulu bergumpal tu banyak sangat, you get this kind of comb:

user posted image

you can see the different from the first one, yang kedua ni, besi dia jarak jarak. then the first one.

this comb on the other hand:

user posted image

is much more suitable for short hair cats. kalau nak guna for long hair, i will only use it dekat leher dan atas badan.

apa apa pun, do it slowly for that kind of bulu, it might hurt your cats kalau buat terlalu kasar.

oh kalau comb yang straight one tu, abit susah to remove the bulu bergumpul bawah badan. because the distance from each besi to another besi is too close.

i think human comb that women normally use, the brush shape, look like the second picture is suitable. but that one is plastic right? afraid its too soft to break the bulu bergumpal. but you can try smile.gif

the mens comb which look like the 3rd picture, still suitable for shorthair.

Is it just me or there seem to be a LOT of guys in cat lover's thread compared to girls?

This issues was in previous version tongue.gif most of the girls kinda surprise that there are more boys in this cat thread. I personally think, the overall gender in Lowyat.net itself is male. So, since the this thread is in Lowyat.net, so most of us are boys. If you go to other forum, which is toward pet forum itself, you will found more girls than boys smile.gif

boys do love cats smile.gif

most of my girl-friends said, boys who likes cat are romantic and caring. not sure if it is true or not tongue.gif boys who likes dog are somehow likes to show off tongue.gif still i don't know true or not shakehead.gif

hi,i wanna ask that i have a cat that he used to have flea problem, and i used to front line to him and flea shapoo, but sometimees he scratch and bit his tail?what is it mean?
also my mother cat she gave birth on is 12/7/2008 and there is something like black round around her nippels, shall shower her , what those black or brown around her nipples mean?
*
Biting the tail is normal, some even bite the 2 back legs.

Some believe it was a normal cleaning process. Some believe it was happen because of stress (like geram). All my cats do that smile.gif. my vet told me its normal, like all cats will do that, just like biting their finger/nails - to clean that part.

but, if you see that fur around the tail become botak, then something wrong, ringworm love tails part, so do fleas and tick.

and cat tail which is near to the private part, there's a hormone thinggy going on over there. if your cat is on heat, they will produce something look like oil. that area sometime makes it itchy.

if there's no fleas or anything, you dont have to worry.
if there's no blood or luka luka, you dont have to worry smile.gif

by the way, MITES (in bahasa - HAMA) may also love to be at the oil part of the cat tail... MITES or HAMA will also make the tail itchy.

-----------------------

For me to reduce this mites (hama) which make the cat body gatal2, i will atleast bath them one time a week. untill they slow down biting their body.

I will first your cat shampoo that have "tea tree", and then use cat shampoo that have "oatmeal".

Oatmeal shampoo i use the bak2basic brand. made from plant and nature which is good, less chemical stuff. oatmeal is good for the skin. put more on the tail if you see them biting it more than other part of the body.

if its stick to the skin also no problem. like fleas shampoo you must wash the body very clean so it won't stay on the skin.

Hope i can help you slow down the biting activity.

------------------------

black black around nipples is normal for female cat that milking her kittens. all will have that. it come from the kitten mouth while sucking the nipple, when the saliva dry it become black like "daki". mother will clean it automatically when she lick her self.

good hygiene mother will manage to clean them self, but not for some female cats, they have problem cleaning them self. which may need your help or take sometimes. after 3-4 months, if your female cat is not pregnant anymore, the fur around her nipples will grow back smile.gif no need to worry smile.gif

QUOTE(spidergirl @ Aug 22 2008, 10:56 AM)
Dear cat lovers,

I'm having quite a problem with my 11 yr old Hitam (she'll be 12 next month). She's been very much a loner nowadays, less affectionate and prefer to find the highest spot in the house.

She used to like being cuddled and stroked (for at least 3 mins). Now I can barely got a hold of her. Always wanna run away.

Her twin bro died in 1995 (the dude in my signature). And early this year I've adopted a 2 yr old male stray cat, Oren and it took Hitam about 6 months to get used to the new cat, being in the same room.

Now she's okay being in the same room with Oren, no hissing but still no licks and smell butts moment. But with the presence of new cat, she's been having quite a lot of tantrums like;

-She doesn't like to hang in the family area anymore (even though Oren's not there). But Oren is the one who always there, maybe she smell Oren presence around?

-Doesn't like to be cuddled and sleep beside you.

My maid likes to keep the cat out of the house cos she didn't like the cat to poop in the house (even when I bought cat litter). Argh.

Both cats are staying with my parents and I'm staying in an apartment. I'm thinking of bringing one of them here with me. Which one should I bring?

Hitam will take awhile to adjust to new environment. She's been staying here for almost her lifetime and new small place might take awhile to get used to. But I heard that small place is better for cats. Even when I brought her back to kampung, she feels more stressed (always hide under bed/sofa). And I'm not sure whether its a good idea for this as this might get her stresser to adjust. But with my stupid maid around giving her wrong food and habit (cat litter and letting her out), I don't know whether it might decrease her life.

Oren on the other hand is 'born' in the apartment place. He's a very happy go lucky cat and easy to take care of. I think he really loves it here, he blends in quite well with the family, except for Hitam.

I'm working from most of the time, but sometimes I'll be out to meet clients and run on site projects. So I'm often worried if my cat will be home alone when I'm out. Half of the apartment space is mine, so its not a prob. I don't believe in caging cats, only when they need to be quarantined.

So should I let them be the way they are now, in my parents house, or should I bring one of them here? Hitam or Oren?
Kesian juga dengar cerita pasal 11 years old hitam. She has been a loner for such a long time is it? And at that age of cat, she is consider senior. well you know lah senior cat, they act like senior citizen (people). all she need now is accompany and love. she do not need so much play and fun. but for sure need some exercise.

on the other hand, oren the 2 years old is a young and handsome cat. still have lots of energy to play and having fun just like university student - sports, clubbing, shopping eheheheh. 2 years old still love the attention from owner. Hitam might get annoying to this new comer, and she may tell herself to get more rest at her age. Hitam may also get annoy if Oren ajak bermain, and disturb her.

choosing which one? if you want happy go lucky accompany, you may want Oren the handsome. If you want cool and peaceful environment - Hitam will give you all this smile.gif if i were you, i will bring both eheheh only if they do not have problem with each other smile.gif

Lol, so you're a teacher? laugh.gif

My kitten aged 1 months and a half like to play at high places then jump~ Is it ok? unsure.gif
*
kitten and adult cat who has false landing will lead to internal accident which we won't know where - tails, bones, legs, etc.

although cats are well known as the trees climber, they do injured them self. so be careful with that.

kitten's bone problem may recover by it self. but very slow for adult cat - some may need to be cut or pin.

yet the best way is to monitor the kitten and cats.

they still can jump, climb and play around, hopefully there's no false landing.

hi ..i just pick up a stray kitten nearby my housing area yesterday. the main problem is this kitten still in the state of fear. he hiss at me whenever i try to go near him. he dun wanna eat when i am ard.

he just stay at the same spot for the whole day...
help wat shld i do to make him lik me.

i try stroking and rubbign him but not usefull..
*
give that kitten more time...

stray cats are very hard to train at this period. why? because they are abuse by people in the public. that's why they hissing at us, and afraid at us.

u just put the litter box, food and drink near him. than you go do your work without looking at him. lock yourself in the room eheheheh. let the kitten smell and get use to your house environment and slowly build the relationship with the surrounding and YOU.

if you have cage, try to put the kitten in the cage, with everything needed inside.

I think it depends on the type of food also.

With Eagle Pack Hol, Oren takes appx. 500gm - 700gm a week.

KP

i think its depends on the number of cats you have smile.gif more cats = more food.

one cat = less food, 10kg can last for so long.

elf,
meaning my kitten can stop drink milk now?
*
you can still give the pet milk from the petshop if you want. or you can just skip it provided you give kitten food.

if you want to give milk, maybe you can give one time a day, only when you are at home. don't leave the milk bowl all day long, milk spoil easily. you might not want your kitten to get "cirit birit" eheheh

check the stool, if he/she has his soft or watery stool, stop that milk.

after stop milk for few days, check the stool, make sure it is hard now. if that kitten stool still watery or soft with and without milk, then bring to vet, you might need to deworm and check on that.

Yeah, handsome blonde, crippled man. Hahaha! Honestly, I'm not sure whether he's 2 yrs old or something. His passion on sleeping makes me wonder whether he's even 2 yrs of age. He did play a bit, but spent 60-70% of his time sleeping. You guys be the judge. How old do you guys think he is?

Hitam been a loner for quite awhile but she's happy with it. Now is getting more miserable cos she can't even stand being with us cos of Oren. Mid life crisis la kot.  blush.gif

Both cats are somewhat peaceful cos they always sleep most of the time. I kinda consider bringing in Oren since he'll adjust to new surrounding easily compared to Hitam who already blend in for almost 12 yrs of her life.

But I'm also worried about Hitam's diet and lifestyle habit cos my maid is taking care of them. She doesn't like cat litter and always feed her (Hitam) with ikan goreng. I told her to feed boiled fish instead but she complained saying that Hitam always vomit at the end. Pfft..! She'll be fed with whiskas wet food pack for a couple of times in a week (only if there are supplies).

Oren is easy on food. He doesn't eat all the wrong food like ikan goreng and all, only dry food like Royal Canin and Eagle Pack. Strange for a stray cat, maybe he was adopted before. I don't know whether bringing Oren will 'strip off' his happy times here in my parents' house, with big garden and spacious area to sleep, hehe.

In dilemma. HELP  icon_question.gif
*
its very hard to tell cats age. unless it is kitten. maybe vet can tell your cat age. some use the cat teeth to estimate age.

if i were you i wont feed fish to a cat. fish does not contain much nutrition for cats. that is the reason why all premium food use chicken, some using meat.

Oren and hitam stay together right. Hitam do not eat royal canin and eagle pack? if hitam is eating this, you can just stop giving fish, and just let hitam eat this premium food.

else you might want to get IAMS for senior cat. I think SP also got senior cat food.

Hmm, just doing some calculations on some Premium food to compare with the New IAMS... But these are the medium packs, ofcourse getting the big pack will reduce the overall cost slightly.

Orijen, 2.5kg = RM50.00, so 500gm is RM10.00

Eagle Pack Holistic, 1.5kg = RM35.00, so 500gm is RM11.70

New IAMS Healthy Naturals, 816gm = RM21.00, so 500gm is RM12.85

Wahhh liou, how come the New IAMS lagi mahal?? shocking.gif While it still contains by product, corn meal and wheat...

Curious, curious...

sweat.gif
KP

*psst... if my calculation is right, the 10kg Eagle Pack Holistic will cost only RM7.00 per 500gm!* rclxm9.gif
Maybe because it is still new in the market. I bet the new one at the moment competing the price tag since the cat food price increase worldwide.

or maybe the small packs are all expensive. It might be cheaper if they have bigger packs like 2kg or 3kg.

I'm not sure if people will get that new IAMS thought, maybe not. Since you mention Eagle Pack Holistic is still cheaper.

Although if IAMS drop down that price in malaysia, i think i will go for Eagle Pack Holistic, since their nutrient % is higher than that Iams Healthy Naturals.

Heard most of my friends that multi-cats in their household is now changing to product such as blackwood, proformance, and iams. since after RC increase their price like to the max.

Proformance and IAMS do increase their price by rm10-15. And proformance making big mess like not going to do packing of 10kg to malaysia... yaikssss have to buy 5kg packs times xx amount.

Asked a vet about his age, he also can't say. Even asked him to give a guess, he dun dare to do so (he looked like a young doc, thats why not so good tongue.gif). His teeth is still white (no yellow stain yet) and averagely big.

Hitam has stopped eating dry food at the age of 4. Since then we've been buying canned or wet food. If out of stock then we made our cat food. If we feed her dry food, she'll rather starve. Even some other wet food like chicken flavor (iams and eagle pack), she'll just sniff and run away. Membazir!  shakehead.gif My 9 yr old cat died under her care too. I don't want her sis to die too  cry.gif

Sigh, I wish I could stop Hitam from eating fried fish, El, but my maid's the one who feed the cats. I've been scolding her to stop feeding those stuff cos its bad, but she would justify it by saying Hitam prefers the 'bad food'. Argh! vmad.gif I think I've an idea what to do. Maybe I get few big canned food and categorize it bag by bag. That way its better than oily fried fish isn't it?

I'm no longer staying in my parents house since I started university, now working already. I would go back home once every 2 weeks, min once a month. My mom would monitor the cat's progress, but she's working too and only have time at night.

Is it okay to leave cats un-caged in an apartment and leave the balcony door open for litter? Maybe I can install a net on the balcony rail.

Hmm...I might consider bringing Oren (haha, same name like KP's cat) with me as a trial.  hmm.gif How long should the trial be, El? Or should I try Hitam.

Pros & Cons Hitam staying in apartment
-------------------------------------------------
1. Take awhile for her to adjust to new surrounding (con)
2. I can monitor her eating and poop habit (pro)
3. Oren won't be there to bother her = no tantrums (pro)
4. New environment will make her more stresser (con)

Pros & Cons Oren staying in apartment
-------------------------------------------------
1. He was a stray a few months ago, and might adjust to moving out (pro)
2. Oren already happy staying in my parents house as its a nice play area (garden) for a young cat. (pro)
3. I have few sofas in my place that can be potential sleeping place for Oren. (pro)

doh.gif pening pening
*
you can only bring one cat with you? kan best kalau bawa dua dua smile.gif kesian juga si hitam, di tinggal kan. if i were you, i rather not to take both. sebab mesti kecil hati si hitam dan sedih if oren pindah. sometimes, silent does not mean they hate the other cat.

if you want to open the door, better to have net at your balcony, else someone will make free jump eheheh.. yep you can put the litter box outside the house - better place smile.gif as long as not too many poop until your neighbor complaint ehehehe.

some cat might not like to be move from one place to another place for many times. it make them feel stress. cat very easy to get used to a new place if there's other cat with him/her. like bring oren and hitam together for the trial.

if you have a cats that has been living together for so long, and suddenly you separate them, at your new place you will hear him meowing looking for accompany, scare, and stress.

My cats has their own room. if they play outside the room, i have to bring more than 2 cats. if i only bring 1 cat, that cat will meowing so loud calling for the other cats. they want to be together. they get freak out if the environment change to only 1 cat house.

p/s ouch i can't imagine hitam is actually having fried oily fish cry.gif

brand = any premium or super premium cat food are good. choose which suit your budget smile.gif (all this food can only be found in petshop)

---------------------------------------

in term of ingredients and nutrition = dry food (it contain lots of other good ingredients not only meat/chicken, beside its very convenient and easy)

wet food also good, but it contain very less nutrition, unless u go for Science Plan wet food which is very expensive.

fresh food
also good, but still lake of other nutrition. feeding boil chicken or meat alone won't bring much vitamins, protein and etc. to have all this, you need to make your own recipes to get better fresh food. very troublesome. if you have the time to prepare all this, why not smile.gif

wet food will make your cat mouth smelly and yellowish teeth. you need to clean their teeth frequently.

you can give dry food daily, and wet food or fresh food twice a week. still consider good smile.gif i will just make wet food or fresh food for treats smile.gif
