bukly???i think tis is 1st time i heard ppl comment E71 as bulky...it is so slim n solid man!!
*
no no.. the phone is definately not bulky.. There are lots of QWERTY phones which are much much more bulky then the E71. In fact, I think the E71 is the most slimmest QWERTY phones you can find in the market at the moment.. rclxms.gif

I think its possible. When I send my wife N85 to change the language, to my surprise, unlike SE, you can actually change the phone language file instead of having to upgrade firmware to change the language. I think its the same for every Nokia Symbian phone.
*
Oooo.. I didn't know it was possible to do it without flashing the new firmware.. Do you have anymore details?

I told what I was being told. LOL... just tell them change language files ba.

Then again, when I have a 7710 few years back, I had to flash the whole thing to change the language. How times change. Maybe you can ask the SC.
*
Even the recent Nokia N73 is not possible without flashing the firmware..

hi csifoos'
i really need your opinion since im really confuse what to buy..at first e71 in my mind bcuz got GPS n corprate design ..but when i go to the shop, they said we need to pay to telco for the gps service, meaning for every turn we go they charge one..
then i go ask htc and other non symbian fon..they said htc tytn 2 very syokk..free gps...etc etc..
im doing business and i need a nice phone with keyboard preferably and and also a free gps .. so pls help me..can ah..i go blanja teh tarik one fine day..ahah
*
GPS is always free no matter where in the world you are at..
The only thing which is not free are the maps. With a GPS enabled cellphone, without a map will be useless. The only thing you will know without a map is your current location (in terms of standard world coordinates) and probably the altitude.
Telco will not charge you for the gps service. They will charge you if you are using the A-GPS as the "A" stands for assisted which uses the EDGE or 3G network to obtain the GPS lock signal much faster (this is a very layman explanation).
In E71, you can disable the A-GPS connection and therefore not having to worried that you will be charged for data downloading.
As for the telco saying that they will charge, they are probably referring to the Nokia Maps which comes free for 90days when you 1st bought your E71 from the authorized dealer (in AP case, I'm not sure if you have this free trial).

As what most of the sifus here would say, you can find the *ahem* version of the Garmin Mobile XT software. The maps you can easily obtain from malfreemaps.com. This is the hassle free version of the maps from Malsingmaps.com.

But of cos you are not suppose to discuss about the *ahem* stuff over here!

i just noticed that my phone is from taiwan and the keypad is a bit different from the original one...... example the full stop button is different. sad.gif

I presume you're buying an AP unit.
I don't think there's much you can do about it..
Any pics to show the keypad differences?

Max 8gb and depending on your own preference. If speed is your preference then get a 4GB MicroSDHC card from Sandisk. For those below 4GB are normally MicroSD only. Doesn't matter 4GB/8GB/16GB, most memory cards are using class 2 only as found on Sandisk website. They will normally specify on the product details regarding the class. Its no biggie actually, the class defines the minimum speed meaning it can go way higher than that but not lower. Class 2 means 2MB/sec. If speed is less important, and u prefer quality, then go for a PNY 1GB microSD or OCZ Trifecta MicroSD 2GB card. I am using a PNY 512Mb since the day I use MicroSD with my Moto Razr v3i and so far it has never been corrupted or give me trouble before. 1 thing I can tell you is that it is not cheap though.

An original battery will cost you probably RM180-200. I saw a forummer claiming that he is from SIngapore and selling it at RM60 only as a supplier price. But dunno can trust or not.
*
In terms of battery, I would recommend to get it from the Nokia authorized dealer. I have a few bad experiences with the "compatible" battery. It will work quite fine for the first few days, then eventually went kaput. There are times that it totally can't charge.
"Compatible" battery will not be good in quality. If you're unlucky, if you overcharge the battery, the battery will get expended due to heat and you may end up having your battery stuck in the phone.

if its stuck its still ok, sometimes it may even burst. u dun want that to happen with the phone lying near your head when u sleep. it could be nasty and life-threatening. i think some emails about that have been circling around for quite some time.
*
ya ya.. I have also read it somewhere in the circulated email..

Guys, I am having a problem with reading SMS. I currently choose to save all my messages in memory card. This morning I received an SMS from Maxis and all of the sudden all my previous sms-es cannot be opened, not even new ones. I was wondering if there's a solution for this.

Anyone has this problem before?
*
Did you try re-starting the phone?

Oooooh ... ? I think I've only used it for less than ... ... 1 week (remembered only quite very few charges till now). I'll wait and see if it can get bummed up then. Thanks!
*
Standard battery cycle should be charged at least 3 times.. after that you should be able to enjoy a more longer battery life..

Regarding the WorldMate comes preinstalled with the E71, does it always trigger for a connection automatically or can you select which network to connect when you want to use it?
I'm not on dataplan therefore having it automatically connected would be a problem.

Well, my usage to last me for 4-5 days average 5 hours of calltime, about 50 messages, total of about 2 hours of wifi browsing, about 1 hour of EDGE browsing, about 1 hour of music player, alarm clock, and the rest of the time are on standby mode (without breathing light on). Just a rough estimate though for your reference.
*
bro.. seriously your battery is out of the world.. I can't even have that long with half the things that you have done..
I only managed 3 days and having to charge on the 4th morning itself..

i am having some problems with my e71...when i first got it and loaded up some MP3's the music player would not open...I restarted the phone...ejected and inserted the memory card a couple of times till it finally recognised it. 2 days later, i put in even more songs - total of 139 to be exact and the music player opened..it says music library corrupted and it was repairing it..after a couple of minutes i got my music back...then i did some app installing..everything was fine.. and today morning, i could not load all my apps stored on my memory card and i could not fire up my music player as well. when i managed to open the music player, it says memory or library corrupt..cant remember...

then i put in the card into my card reader and was surprised to find all my music gone sad.gif and i still cant open some of the apps installed on my memory card....

what should i do? am going to do a firmware update soon. charging the battery now...
*
Seems like you may have a defected memory card. Try other memory card on the E71.
