My E71 behaved weird again today..I turned on the camera and a message came out saying 'another application is using the camera" and I can't use the camera. Had to turn it off using the red power button and restart the phone to use the camera. Went to the Nokia centre again and the tech guy checked my phone memory. Said its free memory was low .. down to 10 MB from the 120 MB built in RAM..filled with downloaded GPS maps, pics, etc. Sort of told me that if it behaved funny check the phone's free  memory. He transferred the offending files to my memory card (except contacts which cannot be moved) and freed the memory. Hopefully the phone won't behave "weird" again. Can check Ram usage by going to settings > option > memory details to see how much free memory your phone has. Mine is using 13 MB at the moment with 110 MB free. Hopefully it remains OK.
*
You should keep your phone memory usage as low as possible. Dump all pics, videos, programs, maps, etc all on the memory card. Access of programs installed on the memory card is as fast as in the phone memory. I have no problems with the phone having all the programs installed onto the memory card.

Quick questions: How to setup e-mail? Hotmail can or not?
We should have an owner list + an recommended application list.
*
Hotmail may not be possible as Hotmail does not support POP account.
Gmail is possible..

Ok, how about Yahoo Mail?
Hope you dont mind answering even though its probably asked before. Reason being, I dont use much of a Gmail.
*
Yahoo mails also does not support POP account. There's a widget call Yahoo 2Go! but I'm not a fan of widget. You could use Opera to view Hotmail though but I don't think that's what you want anyway. I tried ProfiMail on Hotmail but not able to get it to work. At the moment it's safe to say that Gmail is your best option.

Alrighty - thanks a lot!

Now, I have installed Garmin Mobile XT version 5 with a free map. I've been wondering should I turn off A-GPS so I dont get charge for data rate? Or it doesnt affect anything since I'm using GMXT rather than Nokia Maps?
*
I would suggest you to turn off the A-GPS all the time unless you are having an unlimited data plan otherwise it would be like what the iPhone users are facing..

Yea, it comes with Yahoo 2Go! but I am kinda tempted to download version 3 available on the net instead.

Is having A-GPS enabled so dangerous? With it, I can still get signal in a moving car but without it, I can barely get any signal even while standing still in the middle of the road.

I take it as none of you has any A-GPS enabled?
I installed it myself.
FOC.
Where are you from and why would you want to buy from Msia when you're not from here then?
*
I personally disable the A-GPS. But of cos without the A-GPS support, to get signal it'll take around 5~10mins..
That's the sad part.. sad.gif

hey guys... just wanna inform u guys bout the problem i faced with this phone....

at first my nokia maps GPS is working fine.... then i installed solitaire which is default in my phone....
suddenly the nokia maps GPS stopped working... it will load till about 30% then suddenly it stops the loading n an error msg pops out. it says to go to www.nokia.com/maps to update my application.
i did it a few times but still the same thing...
then i uninstalled the solitaire but the problem persist...
so i reset my phone using the "reset to factory setting" n still the same thing...
i gave up n sent it back to nokia service centre yesterday...
it says to pick it up today...

Also another problem alltogether, sometimes when i press the menu button, it still stays in the home screen...

quite a sad thing to happen to such a fine phone.... quite disappointing especially when it is an ori zitron set...

yes.. u can read and write in chinese..
unless you got the AP model then it depends on which country the phone comes from. If from Asian then should be alright. For original distributor, you should be alright..

I think you can't install chinese character.. you have to reflash the firmware..

I'm not too sure how to do it.. but you can always go back to the shop you purchase the phone and request them to reflash the firmware..

QUOTE(tchiaming @ Nov 7 2008, 11:40 AM)
2 questions here...

1) Is it possible to turn off the camera sound when u're taking a picture?

2) Besides the notification light, is there a way to enable sound/vibration to know that i have a missed call or an unread msg/email? cos i'm pretty busy most of the time n i tend to forget that i have not read my msg. As i put my phone in my pocket, i can't see the notification light.

So is there any solution? thanks!  smile.gif

cheers guys!
*
Q1) It is not possible to turn the sound off as it is more like a legal requirement now. But of cos, there are 3rd party application which will allow you to turn it off.

Q2) If you have it in the pocket, whenever there is a msg, it should vibrate if you set the phone to vibrate. I think only Motorola phones have this function

guys..pardon me for my noobness..this is my first symbian phone..was wondering how do you guys apply the theme?do you need to install the theme or just normally apply?
*
All themes for Symbian phones will come with *.sis. You have to install this via Nokia PC Suite or you could copy the *.sis file onto your phone memory/memory card and then install it directly from the phone.
Once the installation is completed, for Nokia E71, go to Menu>Tools>Themes>General. You can select your installed themes from there..

Hi all,
i`m just wondering tht using E71 GPS is there any charges on the phone bill !?

can any1 point me where can i get a full instruction for doing the garmin GPS installation !?
*
If you enabled A-GPS, you will be billed as it will prompt the phone to use 3G network to help achieve your location faster.
As for me, I disabled the A-GPS as I do not have unlimited data package smile.gif
One downside is without A-GPS, to lock the GPS signal would require longer time (approx. 5mins).

Hi guys,

I got myself an E71 too. Its an AP set from Taiwan but it doesn't matter since I could change the product codes. They ran out of Singaporean APs so most of the units are from other countries. The phone is nice and its great. Happy to join you guys.

Congrats! welcome to the business world of E71 rclxms.gif

the backup feature got options where u can check which stuff u want to backup. go check all if u want
if not mistaken upgrade firmware wont delete anything from your memory card..just phone memory
*
For example, if I installed a program onto the E71 but selected it to be installed onto the Memory Card instead of the Phone Memory. Then backup the entire phone. Next, update the firmware to the latest one. After that restore the previously backup file of the older firmware.

Question: Will the program previously installed on the older firmware be available and working fine on the new firmware? or do I have to re-install the programs?

wah.... i'm not like an E71 expert, seriously!!!

And to post all my knowledge is kind of impossible as I learn it through trial and error. Just play around and u will get it.

I agree with a new thread for it but hey, I really have no time for it all fellow E71 users. Maybe we can set up a team to contribute to the thread. I can contribute to the PDAir pouch review though and some picture of my phone with the pouch on.

Superman is an expert here as well. I'll vote for him to start the new thread.
*
Thanks jameslee_84 for the vote..
Currently I'm in overseas.. having limited internet access..
As what jameslee_84 said, we could all contribute..

p/s: I'm not an expert as well.. just a very curious S60 user smile.gif
