u mean a unit of the capdase leather or a unit E71?

i think it is the same as the first leather case that i posted. it has a memory card space slot also. but its brandless and the leather looks pretty much of a lower quality. the PDair looks to be of a tougher built.

If camera is your preference in buying a phone then E71 is going to be the last on your list. But if you are looking for a feature packed and powerful smartphone with an edgy design, then the E71 is the phone for you. It is a handheld monster machine in my opinion. No offense to users of other mobile phones, but I have made comparison with Iphone, Samsung i780, Blackberry Bold, Omnia and HTC Diamond. Nokia E71 is the 2nd in my list. Only 1 phone outperform the E71 by a small percentage, that is the Omnia. but judging by the price u have to pay for an Omnia, in terms of value for money, E71 is the overall champion.

Yup. The only reason I say Omnia is better is for the screen size and camera. The big screen size provide better view for the eye and also when u use GPS. Camera, needless to say better pictures. But the lack off a QWERTY keyboard makes the phone lack the "Professional" feel. And its a Windows Mobile (I am a Symbian lover). I think Omnia will be more suitable for those looking for an entertaining phone instead of a smartphone.

Just a little added piece of advise from me. The Qwerty for me is wonderful as my fingers are not that bulky. For those with "Gigandos" fingers, u may want to think twice. If you are someone who prefer a real QWERTY keypad but u have big fingers, then Samsung i780 might be a better choice. this is because each qwerty buttons is separated by few milimeters between each other instead of connected together like the E71, but I personally chose the E71 because the character layout of the whole keypad is better and more impressive on it. The keypad on the i780 seems weirdly design and the character keys give me a hard-to-get-used-to-and-takes-ages-to-type-even-a-sms feeling. Compare it yourself and u will know. I personally tried both phones side by sde before i buy.

i think its programmed that way, cos if its like the old nokia, there will not be so many fields for u to key in as much phone numbers. this phone is meant for you to be able to met in biz contact, hse contact, e-mail and etc. so i suppose the conventional nokia phonebook can't serve this purpose well.

anyway, I have a question here, i just realized that the back light at my scroll pad will blink for few seconds and then slowly fade out. this is repeated like once every 30 seconds. didn't really notice it until last night when in the dark its so visible. funny thing but it helps in finding your phone in complete darkness. an impressive invention.

i have to say the light is cool, but i normally don't leave any messages unread and will check all notifications, so mine normally just blink at a slow pace.

Still checking out for any new thing with the phone besides the blinking light.

yea, just enable it. anyway, looking for a freeware where i can change the home screen layout. Anyone got any recommendations? I found some but its normally shareware.

I think there is a 3rd party software to create a better layout. forget its name but its not free, its a shareware. However, if you like the layout but just want to change the shorcut on the homescreen, u can do so:-

Menu->Tools->Setting->General->Personalisation->Home Screen->Mode Settings

Then u will see on the first selection is the mode you are in. Preset are either Business or Personal which u can fast switch with the Switch Mode button.

Go under Home Screen App->App Shortcut and u can edit Horizontal shorcut with the big icons. U can remove what u don't use and put in those u use.

The vertical menu however I can't find a way to edit it yet. the most I can do is remove them from the list.

To do this, go under Home Screen App->Enabled App and u can remove those unwanted shortcut. Mine only has 2, calender entries and wireless scanning left.

If you do not like the Home Screen to appear altogether, go here:-

Menu->Tools->Setting->General->Personalisation->Home Screen and under the first selection indicated Active, on selection, the Home Screen will be deactivated and u get a blank wallpaper on your home screen. To put it back on, just do the same again.

Added on October 30, 2008, 9:18 am1)The installation normally starts up itself to make it easy for you. First time install will take longer after that, its just routine check for installation files which is only few seconds.

2)If yours is ORI, u better go back to Zitron to get it checked, AP however, then there's nothing much u can do. I personally don have such problems but since my laptop has an SD card slot, I use the SD adaptor to slot in the memory card to my laptop. Easier and no hassle.

3)There is a dedicated phonebook button just to the right of your scrollpad. Once u press the button u can put in an alphabet and the list will be narrowed down. But first u have to get into the Phonebook first. If you are asking about simply putting in an alphabet and hope the list appear on the homescreen automatically, I don think that is available. Otherwise there is no need for the dedicated phonebook button.

actually, i try using Opera Mini on my E71, but everytime it uses EDGE to connect even though I have scanned Wifi connection and already connected. I can only use WLAN when after scanned for wireless I straight enter with Nokia browser. Honestly, I think Nokia browser is an equally good browser cos so far no problems. Opera Mini is just another browser of similar standard but more widely promoted.

Ya, i thought it wasn't as good as the browser in E71 as well. But loading is pretty fast on the native browser for me. only few seconds normally. I think both are similar speeds in terms of loading as most likely it is affected by the web connection rite?

I'm using a Singapore original set so mine has chinese input. Well, I found a method googling around.

Download and install: Nemesis Service Suite and the latest Nokia Software Update.

1.Connect your phone and wait for Windows to install the drivers.
2.Open Nemesis Service Suite and click “Scan for new device” on the right-upper part of the window
3.Click on the icon “Phone info”
4.Click on “Scan”
5.Change the product code to the one you want from the list below.
6.Mark the case “Enable”.
7.Press “Write”, and your phone’s product code will be changed (you might think that nothing happened, because the phone is still in normal mode, and the changing of the product code only takes a couple of seconds, but don’t worry, the product code changed !).
8.Close Nemesis Service Suite and run the Nokia Software Update.
9.Make sure not to touch the cable or the phone while your phone is updating or else you will break it!
10.That’s it! When you restart your phone, it should now be upgraded!

Singapore product code will be 0560654 as can be seen when u remove the battery.

Honestly, i think these will do if there's a new firmware out but for now i don't think any is available so u can still try but please, i am not liable man.

Thats why I get a singapore ori set, nearly same price as AP here so u save $$$, and also save the hassle of getting chinese input language firmware.

don't have an issue with that. i think whether its in the memory card or phone u will still be able to use the mp3.

But for the second part nothing much u can do, there aren't any settings. Only possible is a shareware I found but need to pay. Don think u will want that.
