I got 3 principal passes for my STPM. It is enough to study LLB in private university? I had apply for MMU but since now they are still not yet exempted CLP. What do you guys think?Should I go for private or MMU?
*
Depends on whether u wanna practice later in life. Since MMU is not exempted yet from the CLP, y wanna spend 4 yrs there? instead of the LL.b of 3 yrs since both also still have to take CLP in the end unless u go to the other uni's which is exempted from CLP. From what i heard, those graduates from the public uni's r not well equipped and they can hardly pass the test before a law firm accepts them but of course there seems to be an implied quota to employ them in so they gotta choose the best out of the worst. This is not me discriminating ppl from those uni's, but real hard facts!

I think Business Studies is a good choice. Well, you can just take a look at the syllabus of that subject. See whether you think it suits you or not.

You can get it from http://cie.org.uk .

Added on April 5, 2009, 8:03 pmGuys, i will start my first class of my first year LLB tmr !
I will have Public law tomorrow ? Is it difficult ?
*
Business Studies is good smile.gif i took it also haha! the maths there needed not so difficult tongue.gif

Public law ar..damn dry and boring to me la tongue.gif
i just memorize the substance for Public Law and CLR coz the Qs i did was all essay. To do a problem in those subjects quite difficult. That's IMO la..others may think it's easy.

problem questions? were there problem questions in PL?

@ jhong

relax la. it's your first class. if u still find it difficult when you've finished your syllabus in march, then u are 'entitled' to get worried. i found PL easy...

i remember something abt electoral law or something like that

QUOTE(compunoob46 @ Apr 6 2009, 08:33 PM)
for me personally, public law and english legal system is quite different..
english legal system is easier to spot question, and u can concentrate on certain topics..
but public law is the opposite.. u need to study everythin.. cos every chapter is interrelated..
i find public law interesting and els boring.. tongue.gif
*
both of the subjects also can spot ler..just browse through previous past year Qs. That's how u wanna spot and be prepared in those frequent asked topics. It applies throughout ur whole degree life sleep.gif.

And i wish to disagree with u. If i remember correctly, i didn't find PL topics co-related o_O i read in topic by topic on its own o_O

oh ok. i didnt do electoral.

and subject matter for PL is quite co related, tho the questions may not be all the time. i remembered my year had a question which mixed SOP and rule of law. i was like "HUH? for a few mins" but i did it anyway. i think they mix it here and there. but not always. i cant really remember much, but when i was doing PL, i was worried that they might mix major topics in questions because of the links that each topic has with another. and they did it with that sop ques for my year. im sure other years have their own weird mixtures...
*
I didn't do electoral law..it's just when u go through past year Qs, u will stumbled upon it. I dunno abt the mixing Qs, but it may be possible. But i dun remember encountering any of it during my year.

thanks alsree786, schizophrenic (hm, not a encouraging nick if you a lawyer lol), and solstice818. haha, and thanks too for mentioning the hand jerking examinations, i still remember the day when i sat in my theory paper and spending the next 3 hours spitting every single drop of ink out from the pen  icon_question.gif ...fortunately when you work, you dont write at all, we type only, haha, what a relief !
in fact, i did take one paper when i was doing my bca, it was something like LAW101, its about the introduction of common law, tort law, criminal law and contract. kinda interesting to read for me even that time i was still few years younger than now  rclxms.gif
by the way, i really want to know, in law world, do people encourage you as self to think OUT OF THE BOX? is creativity a virtue in law world? would you defend the righteous one or the legal one? i really like to know where are the majority legal people stand in matter like this? or maybe i just need to spend long long time to find it out?
haiz, my mind is already boggling even im not in yet, haha, cheers

hi.
i know my question might be overlapping but there're too many pages and i'm lazy to read all to get the exact answer i need.

i wanted to do law course in a local university maybe UM or UKM after stpm . so what subjects should i take for stpm? art stream or science stream? is history compulsory?

thanks.
*
not really sure abt local uni's. Anyway, taking arts or science doesn't matter as long as u meet the requirements of having enough credits or the minimum criteria. As for History, i'm not sure myself o_O. If i'm not mistaken they just asked whether i have 5 credits in SPM including English and coz i took A'lvls there so minumum 2E's is required only. So i dunno what applies for STPM

Hey, I am doing A-Levels now and I have the interest to read law at university level.

However, I noticed that there are certain universities who offer law combined with another subject like philosophy, economics, criminology etc.
My question is, what are the differences between reading Law and reading Law&Economics in a single degree?
*
If i'm not mistaken in my understanding, then the degree u r referring to is a double degree which u'll do law and whichever the other degree is at the same time. Though i've ask before whether i could take that and the consultant told me that since i'm almost finishing mine, i can opt to take that degree also but just doing the business subjects and would be exempted from the law subjects since i already took it before.

Hi guys,
My thread was barried under somewhere...have to tumpang thread, hope you don't mind.
Do you know anyone who has obtained a law degree from Hong Kong and is practicing in Malaysia?

I've applied for legal studies to Chinese University of Hong Kong as my second choice. I wanna clarify things just in case I really get the offer.

I'd really love to go as the uni itself is quite prestigious and Hong Kong is a very exciting city.
I have read from the Malaysian Bar website which they have a list of recognized law degree from uni in UK,Aussie ,S'pore and NZ. But they also said that the bar will take into consideration even if the degree you graduate with is not in the list.

So,my question is :
1. Has anyone been successfully accepted into the Malaysian bar with a law degree from Hong Kong?
2. Can anyone provide information about how is it like to practice in Hong Kong? What are the difference you see between practicing here and Hong Kong?
3. Do you know of anyone who is practicing in malaysia but does not hold a law degree from UK,Aussie ,S'pore or NZ but from other countries?

I am aware of the risk of not being able to practice here but it is not too much of a problem if I have to live and work there.

Thanks in advance!
*
Q1 - can't answer..since i'm not one of them and i dunno anyone yet who has done so.
Q2 - Same here. Though someone i knew is going there to sit for this coming finals there as in it is UOL paper but changed the examination centre there since she is moving there as she found a job there. She's actually an accountant so i guess she's just taking up the law degree as an extra one to add to her list xD so i dun think she will be practising there since she only finish the degree and not a professional paper yet. Though maybe the difference is in terms on language speaking there? HK more of cantonese though since it was under the British for so long, their English would also be used widely.

Q3 - I know some of the lawyers (much older ones) which only have a diploma in law practising as lawyers and even owning their own firm since at their time they dun have much advanced education and all so i guess it suffices then o_O

Sry can't really answer ur Q though xD

*
it's okay for u to take art or science stream in STPM. It's not fatal and u still can go on to pursue a law degree after ur STPM.

Cheers~

yes i prepared for an FP question. it's quite straightforward...and i think for it, speed of writing will determine whether u can do well or not, because u really gotta argue on the facts and the situations as to whether each party deserves the the money...know as much case law as possible lor...what to do...but i think based on the statute itself and the sections..will allow u to pass...case laws will help u score...speed of writing will help u get an A for that question....

FP starting from 2007 always comes ut as a problem Q rite? though only can c from 2007 and 2008 only lol xD when it was compulsory i think it was essay. Yea, gotta write so much and fast zzz rclxub.gif

I did it both together. I did my A-levels from Lincoln College Asia Pacific which i have mentioned about it last time , and it was you who asking me . Hahax..

Well , i get enrolled to BAC first and see whether can i get the offer from University Malaya, if i am fortunate enough to get it , then i will leave.

I dont have much faith on that though , so , i have now focusing on what i am doing now in BAC for LLB UOL. Getting into UM is just a bonus ! just if i get it .

Who is teaching you in your inter btw?
*
oh sry, very forgetful xD
but coz i heard from my friends who was from atc during A'lvls, they HAD to take both AS and A2 together ler..no choice of choosing to do 18 months there.

Oh, u wanna go UM to do BOJ?

Hmm, for Inter back then in my year...Criminal was taught by Mr.Joseph (but he's now in ATC) and the tutorials by Ms.Puvanes (she's damn good btw + if u r lucky she also tutors for Part 1-Law of Trust) ; CLR nonetheless Mr.Rajensingham himself ; Public law -Dr.Anand (he's good and full of knowledge! He gave us special lecture on Jurisprudence in Part 2 ) but i dun think u can get him anymore as a permanent lecturer there since he was transferred somemore else to last i heard was Bangladesh if i'm not mistaken and i think replacing him for UOL students is Mr.Rabinder (which i totally cannot understand what he lectures doh.gif He taught me during Part 1 Land and Trust and in Part 2 Juris-i dun go for his classes this year coz he keep repeating himself and i dun understand where he's coming from so heck it!) ; and Contract -Ms.Meera (she explains well ler and her lecture can be summarized into charts).

This was my year back then ler...now i heard that the classes either separates UOL and UWE intakes if they r joined together then u expect sucky lecturers who in actual teach UWE so their substance and style of teaching may cater and focus more on internal students and on the other hand UOL requires a lot more. My cousin is from Inter but UWE student so i know how they can mix the questions and how they mark.

Btw, someone mentioned that CLR or was it Public law that they have mixture of topics in a question for UOL and recently when i went to the website to download past year Qs, i saw that the exam papers before dunno which particular date/year r different than the ones that they r having now. So it may be true and possible that now they can mix topics and ask u in a single Q whilst in my year, it's rarely since i dun recall that it was as such and coz i remembered that i did 1 topic 1 Q.
