It meets the basic requirement of all passes to enter for LLB. Cant answer you whether if it's ok for such result to take up law. Reading law requires one to put in a lot of efforts. I might be wrong but judging by your A level result, I must say you didn't put in enough effort?

If you cant cope well with degree, you have no hope of passing CLP. So this is the part you have to consider.

As for your question of which colleges/universities good for law, it depends on which type of programme you doing. External or twinning?

Thanks for yours information! =)
ooh..before i still thought law in UM is the only malaysian-university which recognised in Singapore until i saw the date in Singapore's bar website. =S

may i know more about the "internationally recognise"? like if i hold the UOL degree, could i have a chance to practice as a lawyer in Singapore? and if I hold the degree of local uni, does it mean i'm no longer have a chance to practice in Singapore? or if i just want to be a legal counsellor in Singapore, law degree in local uni is acceptable or not?

*
When I mention "internationaly recognize" I meant to point to the fact that you can work in other countries other than Malaysia. This does include Singapore.

List of approved universities by Singapore Bar:

And yes, answering your question, with local university cert, you certainly cant practice in Singapore.

QUOTE(wenx @ Feb 1 2012, 03:46 PM)

law degree in both UM and MMU are considered not recognised internationally...sounds like law degree from both UM and MMU are on the"same status"? =S as they're same syllabus too...is there any difference in job opportunities/market between the cert/graduate from both of these universities..? (but i read the previous posts, it said it doesnt have much of difference among different certs if we work in malaysia. and i have a friend said that there's no difference too because other people only see your result, like u're graduate with first class, second class etc.. so is that true?)
*
True that their syllabus are almost the same as I heard of. However, I cant answer you whether you will be getting better job prospect with different cert from these two universities because I am not an employer myself. laugh.gif

Anyway, results come secondary when it comes to getting a job. There is something more important than result and it's you. We clearly dont need nerds who memorize everything and score in every exam but cant do a thing in real life. Personality and capability stand out more if you ask me.

QUOTE(wenx @ Feb 1 2012, 03:46 PM)
and i asked one of my friend who study law at MMU about the CLP exemption few days ago...she said her lecturer told them it's confirmed exempted already...
*
Well your friend is half right then. They got their exemption renewed this year. However, this is not permanent. The exemption is subjected to another review every 2 years. Your friend might be a bit misleading here because it is not "confirmed exempted" because when it is "confirmed exempted" it's permanent exemption and this isn't.

So, did you come up with any plan now? Go for UoL or local universities?

BAC and ATC both offer good external LLB from UOL. You might wanna pay them a visit. After graduating, take CLP papers and you can practice. Comes with few intakes a year.

For private university, you can opt for MMU which also accept A Level as one of the entry to LLB they offer. CLP exempted but subject to review. Only one intake a year which is june.

Hi, I hope someone can help some questions I've been pondering about. I went onto the Malaysian Bar website and they say that one must have passed their Bahasa Melayu in SPM. I did O-level instead of SPM Malay and the O-level Malay is probably the standard of UPSR. Is there any way for me to actually fulfill the requirement above?

Everyone in this thread who are freshmen go to Bricksfield's, ATC, HELP, PTPL, and either do UOL or LL.B. But, why aren't the colleges and universities are mentioned on the Malaysian Bar?

You can take SPM BM paper but I am not sure of the procedure. Can go ask schools around your area.

As for your questions of BAC, ATC etc, they are not mentioned but they are recognized smile.gif

Well, if you are studying in a private institute you have to take LAN subjects and if I'm not mistaken, BM is one of the papers, as for the SPM cert holders, we usually end up with Pengajian Malaysia and Pendidikan Moral or Pendidikan Islam if you are a Muslim smile.gif

The lan subject BM is not recognized as valid BM paper to sit for CLP exam I am afraid...It's nothing more than a university subject. To sit for CLP, must get credit in SPM level for BM paper.

So then, as for some of us who go to private institution and wants to do CLP, which I now know can be done in English, what papers do they sit in order to practice law in courts>

I mean, it would be unfair for us but I was considering to do some self-study on Bahasa after I am done with A-level, and sit for the paper. Would this be acceptable, or does the CLP board have an alternative Bahasa paper for non-SPM students?

You should pay both colleges a visit and decide yourself. The last time I studied there, ATC was pretty good. That was before I graduated though. Think things shaken up a bit.

I am only on page 40 of this forum and so far, ATC has a lot of good reviews. I might pay a visit to KL and check-out the universities there. The website does not really tell a lot of things. Its better to see it for ourselves smile.gif

solstice818, want to ask you something if you don't mind, many requirements in Malaysian universities and also to practice CLP requires one to pass their A-level in one seating right? What happens if I did not pas the requirement in my AS and I retake the AS exam? Does that count or have I not meet the requirement?

Dont retake AS. Just straight take AL. Then it will be considered as one seating. smile.gif

So if I did really bad in AS, I must study my butt off to get the a good grade in A2 right? Even if I fail in AS, its ok as long as the overall AS+A2 meets the requirement right?

If I am not mistaken, it should be that way. You can confirm with your college in this matter after all I took my A Level some times back and things might have changed.
