Wah, hope this really is not a trend man. Scary...
I wonder why the seller states 54"x94" screen as 102" diagonal view. If i build it on a 106" (52"x92") i'll still have 2" all around the screen to fix onto the frame right? This post has been edited by toytoy: Sep 23 2008, 04:12 PM |

Canot jump to conclusions yet until more similar cases appear. So far LYN only 2 cases of bulb pecah and 1 case power auto-off(maybe due to heat problem?)
And IIRC no mention of such cases in AVForum and AVSForum. No worries, shud be ok wan. Worst case claim warranty lah. |

I think it's not short circuit. It's power surge. Sometimes when the power supply is not 'clean' it might affect the bulb. I read somewhere it's advisable to connect the PJ to an AVR (voltage regulator) to ensure smooth power supply, same for PC. Power surge can damage harddisk. Better still buy an UPS, so that in the event of power failure, still got backup battery and won't damage the PJ
Glad to hear optoma service is good, at least it's an assurance for the consumers |

I heard shutting down means power off totally right? Meaning i can put it on standby and power it on again right? within the time period? If not after 30 mins, accidentally switch off then have to wait 8hrs mar jia lat? hehe.

yeah, better safe than sorry, buy a UPS
but i no money lah Checked with the screen seller, he suggest i buy the bigger one coz 1" is not enuff to stretch and fix on the frame Shipping itself costs USD35.75 whereas screen only USD49.99. Will reach my house within 6-10days. Not bad hehe. If i order now next weekend can get liao and it all comes to RM300 oni. Hmm can i use a partition (gypsum) board as a screen? I got contractor who can do it for me. Will it be too heavy to hang? hehe, i can paint any color i want using gypsum board and it's totally flat (I think) |

Sure, of coz i'll post the pics.
But i still can't decide to buy the screen from ebay or DIY it using gypsum board. Is it advisable to use gypsum board? My carpenter will provide the frame, and my plaster ceiling guy can provide the gypsum board. "cantum" them together and paint it with white paint can do? hehe. If you all think it's workable then i'll try it out. If not i paiseh to ask for the materials from the contractor Screen from ebay = RM300, Gypsum board screen = "Almost" free. Coz i dunno my contractor will charge me or not. Hehe. This post has been edited by toytoy: Sep 24 2008, 09:56 AM |

No wor, i don have special paint wor.
I still have some leftover of ICI Maxilite from my reno. Thinking of using that with the gypsum board. See how it turn out first. Are borders important for the screen? For 106" screen how big the border shud be? hehe |

Cool, but why the screen looks uneven from the reflection?
4'x8' is 106" right? hehe, exactly like what i m building U think gypsum board and maxilite is a good idea? I tried projecting my office projector on the wall (gypsum board and maxilite) and it looks ok. I m thinking 'adding' the border to the 106" board rather than painting the existing board with black paint which makes the screen smaller. i'll get some good quality black card board or something similar, fold it and glue it to the side of the frame. Is that a good idea? This post has been edited by toytoy: Sep 24 2008, 10:31 AM |

True True, i'll try it out first. hehe
Added on September 24, 2008, 11:47 amThe carpenter said gypsum board is to heavy. He say he help me find plywood. Which i think is fine. I m thinking to buy those water proofing paint which is a bit rubberish. Apply a few layer of this paint on the plywood will help to cover the tiny holes. Then will paint it with maxilite to give it a final matte finish. Carpenter say help me build the screen, damn happy, no need headache This post has been edited by toytoy: Sep 24 2008, 11:47 AM |

Yaya thanks to htkaki for strong poison hehe. But she say she say her eyes are straining when looking at the screen, maybe becoz of the rainbow effect, hopefully she can get used to it lah
But she's very happy with the size and clarity lah. Bought some korean popcorn getting ready for movie night after we get the PJ hehehe. Now can only watch 720p material in the pc. hopefully can get ps3 + htsf2300 soon to fully experience HD entertainment |

htkaki can see difference coz everyday sell new unit ma. when testing very bright, come back to own unit become dimmer sure very obvious hehe. For us everyday look at the same machine u can't tell the difference until you see a very bright machine
Have a go at this test. Damn nice. hehe If u're good at this u can do manual calibration with ur eyes liao hehe. Color IQ Test My score is 3, perfect score is 0. 1st time do it 'page cannot be displayed' Dang do until eye oso blur liao, 2nd time simply do liao, eye cannot see difference liao. |

Glad the HD Projector worked out fine for you vyzar. I experience RBE also. Mind sharing what setting you did to HD65 to get rid of the RBE?
Thanks |

Thanks for the settings vyzar, will try it out later hehe.
I m currently projecting the image on my wall. The image looks ok and sharp and bright but when i view videos which does not fill up the screen e.g. 2:35:1 videos. i get black bars on top and bottom of screen which is not 'black'. That means it is like 2 washed out black bars on the wall. This will improve if i use a proper screen? Coz its a bit distracting seeing them Onto the screen, i will be getting my DIY screen which consists of a frame and plywood tomorrow. I m thinking will it be better if i paint the plywood black and wrap it with normal white cloth. This way will the black paint absorb the lights and will the image look good? or the lights will still be reflected from the white cloth? |

Sigh, house still in a mess but managed to project a 9' wide image on the wall hehehe. Doesn't look bad on the wall, image is clear but then a bit washed out. Seems like black level is not that black. Can see a washed out light on the wall. Project it on projector screen will solve this problem?
