They do get affected because there is usually mismatch of tenure between the FDs and the loans. You will get lower margin for a few months.MayBank shareholder Group

QUOTE(bmwcaddy @ Mar 4 2020, 11:34 AM) Am i missing out something? why are the local bank stocks going up? Ya very strange. Maybe national team in action? Coz new PM met the funds early this week.Aren't they suppose to go down in proportionate to BNM 25bps OPR cut and US Fed emergency 50bps cut? This is very unusual to me @_@ Anyway, good to time for me to exit my PBB positions. Will hold Maybank. |

You must hold by ex date to get dividends. U can sell on ex date n will still get the dividends.1) when this 0.39 dividend is set to be paid out? 2) when is the cut off date to buy this mbb share? 3) if buy now, do i still entitled this 0.39 dividend? Ya, but remember that stock price doesn't stay still waiting for u. Secondly, on ex date price will drop to adjust for dividends. This post has been edited by Cubalagi: Mar 5 2020, 05:56 PM |

QUOTE(civiclution @ Mar 5 2020, 08:22 PM) No. The amount of the drop should equal to the amount of dividend paid.Technically there is no difference in gains if you buy before (entitled to dividend) or on ex-date (not-entitled to dividend). |

I like to imagine it like an open top barrel, half filled with water. Occasionally someone pours out the water from the barrel, that's the dividends. The water level in the barrel will fall. There is, however, a tap that continues to drip water into the barrel. That's the profits and the water level will go up again. Until someone pours out the water again. Now the tricky part is that this dripping water is not very consistent one. Sometimea a lot, some time less. This is where investment skill comes in. U buy the barrel based on how u expect the tap will flow. |
