hahha...FYI ...my mum now wanna rare a syrian.....i brought back my syrian from uni .....at first she scolded me why waste money on a rat....after scolding....the following nite....she sit in front of the OVO pad admiring the cuteness of the syrian.....a few days later....she say wanna rare one more....swt... =.="

Where is your Uni? Find a closer place to COD or find out if anyone who go pet shack is passing back your way lar. That's what I do since I have no car.

My Roche has a habit of dipping her food into the smoothie before eating it. Today I give her mealworm. she take from me, put in the smoothie, then reposition herself in her favourite spot, then pick it back up to eat.

If you look at the picture carefully, you can see the mealworm she placed in the smoothie...

@Vergas: Is your toilet the only place it can take as a hidehouse? My hamster sometimes does that, So I changed my toilet to a plastic bowl. At least it's open air and not so smelly.

Are you planning to breed them? If they were bought from the same place they're most likely siblings, or similarly related.

No, I also give him living world dome, but he seems to prefer the toilet, and now sometimes the smoothie bowl (after he finished it and it have dried). Maybe I'll get another bowl, maybe he prefer open air. Oh sometimes he sleeps in the wooden wheel as well.

Then it's pprobably just him. My Ferro sometimes sleep in the toilet also. It just doesn't make him smeely cuz open air. He sleeps in his food bowl too. Sometimes under the wheel. Roche just likes it under the wheel. Every hammie got its own preference.

@ander: Don't worry. It's suppose to be watery. Got fruit juice mar. I add nezu's vegetarian formula supplement for small animals in it. Then ma become thick lo.

Hey, actually right, everyone say pump syrian until fat fat is good... but then again, in all animals, dog , cat, rabbit, u name it, being fat isn't healthy?

or is a fat syrian actually its appropriate size?

pump syrian until fat if your hamster is skinny.
anyway, for pump is to give them good nutritious food, well balanced diet.
somemore, if you pump your hammy during the growing period, they will become bigger and fatter. as long as you pump it with good food.
but if pump syrian when they are adults, you wont see any significant change..but they do become fatter i think.
pump your hammy with nutritious food is ok but if you pump with average dull food, not good for your hammy.

Then don't put toilet loh. Anyway, hamsters like to sleep in enclosed areas.... and they prefer something cool. Try using Terra cotta hides. I find my RCs love to sleep in and on it during hot days. This is why hamsters like to sleep in bowls, it has a different base than wood shavings, cooler.

Please do not breed them. One is a pearl WW and another is a hybrid Pudding. It is not good to mixbreed a WW with a hybrid. Only breed WW with WW or hybrid with hybrid.

I don't really encourage people to buy a male and female pair without reading about hamsters, without knowing the species, without knowing their gestation period..... please don't do such things on impulse. Hamsters breed very fast, they can reproduce every 20 days and it would just shorten the female's lifespan....

Pumping on fresh food won't make a syrian fat like obese.... if we pump with sun flower seeds then yes lah. Also, Syrians are meant to be big and round. Normally if they go over 120g, that is a good size already. Dogs, cats, rabbits all eat food that is high in grain, protein and fat... so when they look fat, is unhealthy. As long you are not pumping too many mealworms and superworms amd sunflower seeds to your hamster, it will grow according to it's natural size.

Our local Syrians are actually all underweight and don't make the Syrian hamster standards..... this is due to not giving good food to breeding hamsters. Those that have a good diet since young would be able to become big hamsters.
