The Science Behind The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

user posted image

Paramount Pictures has launched BenjaminButtonFX.com, a website that reveals some of the secrets behind the visual effects magic that was used to create The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. From a man aging backwards, to a city’s development over decades, the website features a bunch of different interactive displays of how the visual effects magic was created. It’s definitely one of those websites that you’ll have fun exploring. I’m wondering why it took them so long to get this site up? And I have to say I love the evolution progression on the loading bar (seen above). They should have used that image on a theatrical teaser poster.

agree the movie is too long-winded.. could have been cut off to 2 hours only or less would be still fine.. would make the film better imo..

the "if" scene was cool though.. something new

overall an overated movie.. 7.5/10

I really hated this movie. I really did. I don't understand the Best Picture nomination for it at all.

I hope some of you could answer these questions for me:
- How the heck did BB know about Daisy's crash? About all the little things happening that led to that tragic event? The whole movie were either told through his eyes or Daisy's and neither could know about these little little things?
- Struck X times by lightning? Again, what's the purpose?
- Why include Katrina?
- Born a baby, dies a baby? Come on! Why not die a sperm and an ovum, then?
- How much do we know or like about Benjamin Button? He likes Daisy, he ages backwards, his dad disowned him, he met THREE interesting characters (Captain, swimmer and piano teacher) but what else? I couldn't feel for his character nor did I really care for him as well.

I would have loved to love this movie especially seeing how beautiful it is to look at but it just felled empty. In a year where we have two great films being carried by two great performances, Benjamin Button isn't either one of the two films in my humble opinion.

i agree fully.. except the born a baby thing cos its what attracted me to watch the movie so 1 point for "Originality"

but the thing i hate most bout this movie is ... brad pitt. his acting is just stale and overrated.. i cant stand watching his dyyyyyiinnng face.. a razzie's award maybe?

the only award it should be considered for oscars is "Best Visual Effects" (all the old brad pitt was CGI-ed)

Pitt's actually one of my favorite actors and I've admired Fincher up to Zodiac (well maybe Panic Room). But the last 3 have been underwhelming for me. If he directs Torso, I'll be drool.gif

Watched the movie a while back and though the movie's somehow beautiful but it still doesn't give me a greater impact as compared to Meet Joe Black. Brad Pitt is more appalling in that movie, and he has a great chemistry with Anthony Hopkins.

Unfortunately in TCCOBB, Brad doesn't really have a partner to excel with. No doubt Cate was ok in the movie, but her credentials were put to a stale in this movie. Juz a mediocre acting imo.

Bout the incidents in which Kobe refer to,

- the sequences of 'IFs' are juz to add some 'magic' into the movie so there's no obvious and apparent reason there. biggrin.gif

- lighting- > light humour?

-New Orleans-->Hurricane Katrina is a must! biggrin.gif i think its to show the changing of time.

-maybe its to complete a human cycle. He can't really magically disappeared or become an ovum or sperm aite? It would be another Butterfly Effect again..

-There's not much development in term of human relationship for BB eh..There's only few significant others who seemed to have a role in his life, one way or the other. I dun really care bout this aspect though.

Well, would have been better if Brad were a bit younger and had a decent 'sparing partner' in the movie. Most of the time he doesn't really sparkle and its a waste of his great talent.

-Yeah. I was so confuse whether it is narration or it was from the diary.
-Lightning scenes spoil it for me too.
-Why not Katrina? What's wrong with it. Come on.
-I was kinda hoping he die a giant baby, make more senses since he's born a baby size old man.
-It's not about Button, his "curious case" is just the side kick. It's about Button & Daisy and their love. About their "meeting point" and the time one were "unconscious" and the other one waited/taking care of. I can't describe the subtle feeling but this part of the movie works for me.

I rate this movie slightly better than Zodiac but FC and Se7en is a whole new level.

Not with Claire Forlani but Anthony Hopkins? I dont know.
I think Cate was much better than Ok. In fact, I think slightly better than Brad Pitt in this movie. She carried the aging so well from 20's to 50's despite the make up. Dont take it wrong though, Im not saying Brad Pitt is doing badly. He is actually giving a worthy performance for the role. He drops his coolness unlike most of his other movie where he is just being "Brad" himself and let his stardom shine his character he portrays. He didn't eats on screen this time. laugh.gif

Although it was long , but it show a lot meaning. Although u got the beauty during u were young but when u old your beauty will faded away. But this shows shows differently, when he was young he was an ugly duckling but when he grow maturely he is becoming younger and younger .

haha..Well i do feel that Anthony Hopkins made Brad more presentable while Claire made him lovable and intriguing in a good way tat is.

Cate is juz being Cate u know. I mean she's a great actress and all but she doesn't really shine that brightly in this movie. There's no notable character that i love in this movie, apart from BB's adopted mother. She gave the greatest impression in the movie to me though. Maybe the tone of the movie is a bit laid back. laugh.gif

come on guys, the movie was worth watching, the ending is quite fine coz if it were to follow some of the forummer's idea in here, it would have been a stale ending...

i agree that someone else would have carried Cate's role better ( hmm, wouldn't Kate Winslet have done a great work?)

good movie.

I did enjoy it too but I gotta say still I was disappointed. For all the hype it got, it wasn't exactly all that brilliant. It's ironic how I looked forward so much to seeing him grow while watching the first half of the movie, because reflecting through all of it, the first half was the good part. After he got together with Daisy, it just kinda fell short for me. Got cliche and stuff. It was the times when he was growing up that's exciting...you know, his first drink, his first shag, his first love etc

All in all, I wouldn't miss watching BB cos it's still good but it really didn't live up to its hype for me.
