Gyllenhaal and Arterton Cast in Prince of Persia

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Jake Gyllenhaal (who was first rumored by Latino Review) and Gemma Arterton (upcoming Quantum of Solace) will star in Prince of Persa: The Sands of Time, Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films' adaptation of Ubisoft's popular video game. Mike Newell is directing.

In the fantasy adventure, Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard, Jordan Mechner and Boaz Yakin wrote the script, which is based on the many games created by Jordan Mechner.

Bruckheimer is producing, while Mike Stenson, Chad Oman and Patrick McCormick are exec producing.

Production is set to start in July.

don't forget who's the other stuidio will be producing this movie beside Bruckheimer.

Yup, DISNEY doh.gif

So that's mean this will be a family rated movie, which also means there won't be any boobies, no blood, no gore, no sex, no nude scenes, no swearing, no violence, and probably limited body count... doh.gif

Hey, probably there will be scene with the prince and the princess sitting on a magical flying carpet and singing A Whole New World! doh.gif

It's ain't PoP without all those violent and gore sad.gif

'Persia' pushed to Memorial Day 2010

The dating game for movies is more popular than ever as distributors comb the release calendar to check for openings and survey the competition.

Last week, Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer announced they were pushing back the release of fantasy actioner "Prince of Persia" — a potential franchise along the lines of "Pirates of the Caribbean" — by nearly a year, from June 19 to Memorial Day 2010.

hehe, Tomb Raider was fine.

Wing Commander sucked big time man, after finishing the Kilrathi Saga, skipped WC4 and went about halfway through WC5 - the show was an absolute disappointment, so disappointing that i can't be bothered to watch the entire show. sad.gif

I hope POP turns out well la. really i do.

Added on August 13, 2008, 3:52 amoh just like to add - POP:TSOT is one of the best games I played. smile.gif I hope Mechner's legacy lives on in the show.

So now we have established that his hair, his looks and his body is the equal of the actual Prince himself.
(well, maybe Jake overdid it and went even bigger lol)

But the one thing on the mind of everyone is: the voice.

Everyone knows how Jake sounds and everyone who played POP knows of the Prince.

So will Jake be able to pull this one thing off? biggrin.gif

Jake looks more like He-Man.

The Prince is more smaller sized and better looking than what Jake looks like in this movie. I have a feeling this movie is going to be bad, but not as bad as the Dragonball movie.

Kingsley's Persia villain

I'm not too acquainted with ancient Middle Eastern gang signs, so I can't be positive what Ben Kingsley is throwing up. But I have to assume it's evil, since he is the villain of PRINCE OF PERSIA.

The movie (subtitled THE SANDS OF TIME) is based on the long-running and bestselling videogame series, and features Jake Gyllenhaal in the title role. Kingsley, seen here on set in costume (unless he just came from a THUNDERBIRDS reunion), plays baddie Nizam.

Jakey G buff daddy

"Entertainment Tonight" recently paid a visit to the set of PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME, the currently filming feature adaptation of the popular video game franchise, and what they learned, first and foremost, is that Jake Gyllenhaal, who plays the titular character, is a chiseled mancake that women will want to devour come May 28th, 2010. They also learned that, at least according to Jakey G, this is the most massivest production in the history of cinema. Like huge. Like Michael Bay times a milion. Which is expected, really, considering this is a Jerry Bruckheimer produced project and one thing The Brucks does not do is small. He does hot ass babes, beefy mancake and huge. Find out what else ET learned on set over HERE.

Extra Tidbit: The original game was released on November 6, 2003.

Jake Gyllenhaal as 'The Prince of Persia': 'I've Gotten Buff'

Jake Gyllenhaal plays a 6th century prince who holds the fate of the world in his hands in the sweeping fantasy-adventure 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,' and ET's Thea Andrews got up close and personal with the newly minted action hero on the London set! So, how did Jake get that buff bod?

"I over-prepared myself because I never knew how much they were going to ask me to do, so I just made sure I'd be hopefully able to do anything," a playful Jake tells Thea.

The former 'Brokeback Mountain' star trained for months before the arduous Moroccan desert shoot, and has been training daily to maintain his action-hero physique, gaining five pounds of muscle.

"I guess I've gotten buff," he shrugs. "There's a lot acrobatics in the movie -- a lot of running up walls, and jumping on things and Parkour, so it requires muscularity, but it requires a lot of aerobic ability too."

When filming finally wraps, Jake promises with a smile, "It's going to turn into fat and I'm going to be happy."

'Pirates of the Caribbean' blockbuster producer Jerry Bruckheimer is bringing 'Prince of Persia' to life, based on the hugely popular video game and scheduled to open in theaters on May 28, 2010. The story finds Jake as Dastan, a young Persian prince who must join forces with the beautiful and feisty princess Tamina (played by 'Quantum of Solace' Bond girl Gemma Arterton) to prevent a villainous nobleman (Ben Kingsley) from possessing the Sands of Time -- a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

"I'm running away from family and I'm running away from bad guys and I'm trying to prove my innocence," says Jake, trying to keep the play-by-play plot details a secret. "There's so many extraordinary elements throughout the movie."

Watch ET for more with Jake and 'Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time'!

Jerry Bruckheimer Debuts ‘Prince of Persia’ Poster Within His Own Film, ‘Confessions Of A Shopoholic

user posted image

Fans looking for a first look at the poster art for the upcoming, “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” will have to head to the movie theater to see it, though it won’t be in the place they might expect.

Mega-Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has hidden the poster inside his latest film, “Confessions of a Shopaholic”, appearing as a Times Square advertisement about halfway into the film. It joins posters for a number of other Bruckheimer productions, including the upcoming “G-Force”, though “Persia” is unique in that it marks the first time the films’ artwork has been seen anywhere.

Prominently featured on the poster is lead actor Jake Gyllenhaal in full-costume as Prince Dastan. The film, based on the classic videogame, is an action/adventure that, in the words of it’s original
creator, combines the Arabian Nights genre with the style of “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

There’s an interesting history of “inside joke” billboards in films. Quentin Tarantino often features advertisements for his fictional cigarette brand, “Red Apple”; JJ Abrams showcases “Slusho” in his movies to the point that it spilled out and became viral marketing and Akiva Goldsmith created extraordinary internet buzz with his imaginary “Batman vs. Superman” poster in “I Am Legend.”

Still, this may be the first time we’re given a sneak peak at something that is actually on its way and the debate can begin as to whether or not this is a fun treat for fans (assuming the demographic
of “Confessions of a Shopaholic” and “Prince of Persia” lines up somewhere) or if it’s a case of media over-saturation.

Do you think this is all in good fun or should posters stay in the lobby? Let us know below!

New Images from PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME

I don't know where Huffington Post's Entertainment section got these pics or if they got them directly but these are new pics from the upcoming Jerry Bruckheimer adaptation of the popular videogame, "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jake Gyllenhaal's muscular physique.  So if Jake Gyllenhaal does anything for you, you're welcome.  If not, well, you can join me in continuing to wonder why the Prince of Persia isn't Persian.

Also, I don't want to say officially that these are stills from the film.  The first shot is clearly a set-up for a take (you can see crew members in the foreground and background of the show) but the second image is either from the film of Gyllenhaal was just told that no matter how much exercising he does, it is physically impossible to run along walls.

"Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" is scheduled to hit theatres on May 28th, 2010.

Its release is May 2010 ! OMG... that's ages away ! More than a year away... hope to see awesome visual effects and some momentous game-to-movie moments. Looks set to be the best video game movie adaptation. The people are in it, but are the critics and fans going to love it ?

At least they got Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) to direct it, there is a glimmer of hope....

Looking at that movie (Dragonball), i just think of it as another movie which does not have what so ever relation to the Japan Dragonball series. If not, i'll suffer brain damage watching that damm movie lol ...

Cool..... i noticed the poster in the confession of shopaholic!!! Eversince then.. i just wonder..are this the next Jerry's project?... apparently it came true...

Did you catch the Prince of Persia poster? March 3rd, 2009

If any of you decided to watch Confessions of a Shopoholic you may have missed the Prince of Persia movie poster flashing in the reflection of the cab, do not fret, TTeba has contacted us with a clip showing that very scene. The poster itself looks very reminiscent of the video games.

The portrayal of the Prince in the movie seems to be an interesting combination of previous games, as one reader points out - the movie is entitled ‘Sands of Time’ - in the first look video we see Jake dressed in a white robe - similar to the 1989 prince and we also see clips of him donned up in the Warrior Within prince outfit. And now in this poster there is a hint of the Two Thrones character portrayal.

If you seen "I am Legend".. do you notice the signboard "Batman/Superman"... i hope that is the hint of upcoming movie...

Unfortunately, Superman Returns did not perform as well as they'd like in the States and they are talking about relaunching the whole Superman franchise again (like Ang Lee Hulk and then Edward Norton Hulk). If the previous Superman was a box office hit in the Stated then that movie poster in I Am Legend would have been possible, but now with the talks of relaunching a new and much darker Superman..... *Sigh* I kinda like Superman Returns....

Wow! I must say... for a video game adaptation, this is looking stellar! Could just turn out to be the best video game movie adaptation ever.

Love the visual effects and absolutely love the direction they have taken... looks and feel very Prince-of-Persia-ish.

I don't mind another PotC as long as it's fun and feels fresh.

Many times. even the promo stills is him with the 2nd game armor.

Maybe its a matter discussed between Jordan Mechner and the director. Pretty sure Jordan would've wanted Prince to be as original, but there must be some relevance.

But the possibility that Darkie is there is good. Though, it depends on how people love Prince in the first movie.

hey peeps. im a major fan of the pop game, esp sands of time. ive played it like 3-4 times before and i still find something new bout the game hehe

saw the sneak preview yesterday at tropicana city mall courtesy of mix fm. im glad they didnt go too far towards making it feel like pirates of caribbean style since jerry bruckheimer made this. it has its share of eclectic casts you might find from some other movie, but it does have its own identites.

I completely went it to watch it not expecting it to be anything like the game. surprisingly there are some neat references. the spirit and plot follows more to that of the sands of time game.

I like how Jake got to wear many kinds of costumes. Earlier in the movie he wears something like from Warrior Within what with the brown armor and red cloth. Along the way he sports a head gear, the same like from the new Prince of Persia 2008 game, but with subdued blue and red color. it looked alright

I din think id say this bout his gal pal, princess tamina. tho she's beautiful, easy on the eyes...she's kinda annoying at times. it has to do with her voice.

The movie in the end was a popcorn flick to me. an action movie and nothing more. which is fine by me. I'd hope for it to be epic but the scope was not meant to be. The casting of Jake Gyllenhaal as the prince was like wtf for me at first. But his scruffy looks and locks (hair) resembles very much of the game's hero, warrior within one. so dats cool.

In the end I enjoyed it immensely. Its not often your most favorite game got to be made into a movie aight?

Nice story telling n romantic.
But it lacks some humor like pirate carribean

Though it is based on game, but it never spoil like resident evil. But all acrobatic stun is remained like the game

Reccomend to watch 2hr i guiess

Those who has play the game, might predict the ending but not for those who have no idea about prince of persia

Prince Of Persia: Sands Of Time (2010)

You have NO IDEA how hard writing this is for me...

After the near DUD (Clash Of The Titans by Warner), this is is the next hyped to the max big budget production for 2010.

I really REALLY want to luv this.

I'm a big fan of the game (the original Prince of Persia used the same game engine as Karateka (Apple 2C platform), anyone, ANYONE!! smile.gif

I believe the issue is two fold

1) Big Budget = MORE meddling from production company's executive, hence storyline is convoluted (can you say ROJAK)

2) Big Budget = Jake Gyllenhaal could hardly keep himself noticeable with all the big events happening around him....

Mike Newell is a very good director (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), Donnie Brasco (1997), etc)

This is NOT one of his best work....

I REALLY want to LOVE this movie and end up think it was OKAY only... cry.gif

Well to be fair it's better than most of game-based movies. Oh and to truly enjoy the movie is don't draw comparison with the game and treat it as a separate entity altogether.

yes, it was nice those who never play the game, but for those who yes, it is predictable that everything gone to reverse.

Well.... even in the game the heroine Farrah dies.... He he he . . .. Till the good ol' Prince reversed everything. I wish they would have left the name anonymus! Just Prince, like in the game

Came back from watching Prince of Persia

To say at least - the movie isn't great but it was good enough the entertainment it does provide with some good fair of action, a little humor and plenty of special effects. Although I feel the movie works because seriously it is Disney, there are some moments you might expect too much but came out nothing more than just a movie that targeted at families.

Certain scenes where Prince Dasdan goes through the city reminds me of Assassin's Creed - I mean, even that stance at a tower he jumps down was similar. The hood he hides his face and all... I don't know - maybe I haven't played any updated Prince of Persia but the feel of Creed is there.

For the first time ever - Gemma Arterton can act! Seriously, seeing her in Clash of the Titans was a waste... but in Persia, she looks stunning and she can act! Jake Gyllenhaal on the other hand... sometimes I dunno can he be an action star or not but he somehow can pull it off... somehow.

The movie isn't great so best not have high expectations. It's a good watch - feels like a popcorn movie.

Nice story telling n romantic.
But it lacks some humor like pirate carribean

Though it is based on game, but it never spoil like resident evil. But all acrobatic stun is remained like the game

Reccomend to watch 2hr i guiess

Those who has play the game, might predict the ending but not for those who have no idea about prince of persia

yeah..

Just watch the movie

really good thumbup.gif, imho it has better storyline than ironman 2

hope it can go more into dark side like Pop: Warrior Within

dagger of time only use for couple of time and and not during fighting

not enough jumping in dungeon and castle

but overall this is how game to movie adaptation should be done

No lah. I went around with my frens to Kampung Dato' harun and had nasik lemak. haha. so after that then I crashed and burned. haha.

Anyways, for me, it was a good popcorn movie. Just nice. Didn't felt like my money was wasted(yes, better than Iron Man 2). And from start to finish though i know how it would happen, its the narration that made me think otherwise of things.

Cheezy dialogues, but thats what movies are. pacing is nice, parkour sadly Jake can't perform all (especially during the wall run, its obvious someone else did that), jordan seems to love to use Assassins Creed Eagle Eye and execution move, so yeah I had a good time of fun. Wishing more of the parkour (even if its in CGI, i don't mind) to happen.

So, i'd say I can't wait for 2013. A gud 7.5/10, and the best game to movie adaptation so far yet. biggrin.gif

I sure did. It looked like it was about to follow the ending of the game, which is often cited as one of the best game endings of all time. The movie's ending was cheap. mad.gif

Not faulting Jordan's decision, but based on ending, I can't see how a sequel could come. That is, if they want to bring in the sand monsters. But yeah, it was convenient and just cheap. I already expected it when they continue the journey.

But i'm ok. Just wishing for clearer action scenes next time. hehe.

Lol... In the end... It's only a movie. We can't expect it follow 100% from the game isn't it? Then replay value of the sands of time trilogy games just might as well toss it into the dumpster.

This movie is a Popcorn Family movie.

I loved the little fan service things like the Time Reversal, Zoom in and outs to showcase paths, Costumes (Warrior Within + PoP 2008) When I saw that blue and red cloth, I suspected he will wear in a way Prince 2008 will. Parkour, trap doors... (although there is only 1), sexy ladies in persian clothing (at the time where Dastan was running away from Garsiv). Sadly no spikes and potions...

I'd always loved Jerry Bruckheimer films because rich in cinematography. Soooo much hype was placed into this movie but in the end the ending is just a let down to hardcore movie and game lovers. The movie is great! Until the ending came.

But still, best adaptation so far.

Just watched it yesterday and I have to admit that it is better than what am I expecting.

As for the ending, who didn't see that coming? It is obviously as hell and this is coming from someone who never know anything about "Prince Of Persia" origin or played the game.

Although this series isn't some high quality crafted or well-written movie, but it has its own charm and definitely has good re-watch value, which it is a good thing in my book.

8/10

We watched this today and we really like it. Prince Dastan is nice but Princess Tamina... Ooooo is yummy!

The ending a little disappointing though. The baldy suddenly withdraw his sword and got killed by Tus. Kinda expected more plot there but it has to come to an end.

The plot or storyline is pretty lousy and lame.

But the good thing is the action scenes, CGI's and characters outlook are pretty true to the game smile.gif

Yeah, having a sequel for this is ok. Possibility of Sand monster is good (I hope that sand glass is blown), and Dark Prince (sadistic and creepy, but hoping it wont go Spiderman 3 route) is even better.

Could go for a 2nd round. Anyone felt the Jake close up was pointless to show his machoness? laugh.gif

I thought that it was OK la...
- some scenes really reminded me of Assassin's Creed more than Prince of Persia though... sweat.gif
- the fight scenes are horrible (maybe cos I'm kinda sick of the tight fight shots that's been overdone since The Bourne Trilogy)

i wish they kept the sand monsters from the game so the prince would kill em and suck their sand...
that way there's more use of the dagger-time in the movie (there's no memorable use of dagger especially for combat at all!!!)

Anyway, watch this last thursday, overall an average movie, not enough tension, character interactions are kinda weak maybe because they kept going seperate ways and running around.

Some good stunts though, I like flying knife duel as well. The somewhat perfect ending is obviously asking for a sequel... Yeah, I think it does...

Without the sand monsters refilling the sand, its more like assassin creed movie esspecially running away from the guards hahaha. Jumping into the hay or cotton stack was classic.

Added on May 31, 2010, 9:45 pmForgot to mention that they didnt include 2 moves from the games, going down by cutting a loooooong flag and running sideways.

pretty good movie...i like how they adapt PoP games into a full fledged story...definitely one of the best video game adaptation...

my only gripe was:
-the ending...the games handle this better with the prince narrating the story to the princess...but in the movie, it felt a bit cheap without it...
-the pacing...felt rushed IMO...

good points:
-the music...owh sooo awesome~ this alone worth the ticket price...
-cinematography...it's beautiful...

It's even more weird when you watch a Persian kingdom and their peoples talking in english.
If you ever want to think of it realistically.

Out of all the things to condemn such a good movie when there is nothing bad to complaint about it, you guys have to pick on the accent issues of the actors/actresses laugh.gif

Why not talk about how they should've talked in actual Persian language instead of English, realistically speaking tongue.gif

I didn't see anybody complaint when King Leonidas speaks in his native Glaswegian accent laugh.gif

apa la u all doh.gif

They should have Middle east accent speaking other then British. Like those in Command and Conquer Generals.

Persian language too much. At least have the accent. But then again. Its better then American accent haha.(The Rock in The Scorpion King sweat.gif )

overall for a ex-player of POP since Dos version. NICE movie.

For a video game adaptation, this is pretty good.

The one thing that bothers me is that their version of Persia has a king instead of a sultan. laugh.gif

Watched the movie yesterday (2D). I must say going in I expected this to be a "good" video game adaptation in fact probably the best adaptation thus far.

After the movie was over I realized we are yet to have a true, one-hit super video game to movie adaptation. Perhaps the ditched Peter Jackson "Halo" would have done it, or perhaps Jerry Bruckheimer's attempt to make "Bioshock". Why? Because "Prince of Persia" had wafer thin plot, cheesy dialogues and a bad case of a white dude in playing a Persian prince with a weird, weird, weird accent.

This is a typical popcorn flick - - watch it and forget it type. This is a 7/10 at the most. It is not bad, but the stunning visuals that was witnessed in the trailer is diminished by the lack of quality on all other fronts. It is like wrapping a rough stone with a sheet of gold. The 'content' is messy and not too pretty, only the outsides hold it together.
