Gilberto set for Panathinaikos moveQUOTE Panathinaikos are set to make Gilberto Silva the highest paid player in Greece by signing the Arsenal midfielder on a three-year contract.
According to Greek sports radio station Sport FM, the Brazilian star is expected to arrive in Athens on Wednesday afternoon to complete a medical and put pen to paper on his contract which was agreed by the player's representatives last week.
He is then expected to be presented to the media on Thursday.
There is set to be a noisy reception for the arrival of the 31-year-old Brazil skipper, who is expected to arrive on a flight from London on Wednesday evening.
A late attempt by Everton to hijack Pana's bid for Gilberto failed when the player reportedly chose the club now coached by former Chelsea assistant coach Henk ten Cate over David Moyes' men due to their participation in the Champions League.
PAO president Nikos Pateras met with Gilberto's representatives last week and thrashed out a deal after making an offer of around £1million to Arsenal on Friday.
Barring any last-minute changes, the World Cup winner will ink a deal that will see him earn around £6million over the next three years, making him by far the best paid player in the country in a move which will cost Pana almost £8million in total.
Despite being made vice captain of Arsenal in 2006, Gilberto found himself on the fringes of the first team last season due to the presence of Cesc Fabregas and the emergence of Matthieu Flamini, who has since left the club but has been replaced by France midfielder Samir Nasri.
However, in the 29 appearances he did make last season, Gilberto showed that he still has plenty to offer.
After beginning his career in 1997 with America Mineiro, Gilberto moved to Atletico Mineiro three years later. He earned a starting berth in the Brazil team that won the 2002 World Cup.
His displays in Japan and Korea were rewarded by a move to Arsenal that summer and he went on to win one Premier League title and two FA Cups with Arsene Wenger's men.
Panathinaikos, who are currently in Austria for a training camp as part of their pre-season preparations, are also close to sealing the transfer of another Brazilian, the 27-year-old Fluminense right-back Gabriel, who is expected in Athens later this week to sign his contract. http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,1...3824814,00.htmlMilan seal Ronnie dealQUOTE AC Milan have confirmed they will complete the signing of Ronaldinho on Wednesday.
The Rossoneri have announced that they have agreed a fee with Barcelona and terms with the the Brazilian playmaker.
After rejecting overtures from Manchester City, Ronaldinho has agreed a three-year deal with the Milan club, keeping him at the San Siro until 2011.
Milan released a statement on their official website which read: "AC Milan and Barcelona have reached an agreement in principle over the transfer of Ronaldinho.
"The player will be in Milan [on Wednesday] to undergo a medical and sign a contract that will keep him at Milan until June 30 2011." Done deal
Milan president Silvio Berlusconi confirmed that vice-president Adriano Galliani had finalised the deal.
"Galliani phoned me this evening and there has been a handshake," he told Sky Italia.
"I have no reason to doubt it and tomorrow morning the contract will arrive."
And Galliani added: "Tomorrow (Wednesday) Ronaldinho will undergo medical examinations, and once he has completed them he will be a Milan player."
It is believed the final fee for Ronaldinho will be €18.5million (£14.6million) with the player earning an estimated €6.5million (£5.1million) per season. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_3823828,00.html

Hleb to have Barca medicalQUOTE Barcelona have confirmed Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb will undergo a medical on Wednesday before completing his move to Camp Nou.
Hleb has been a leading transfer target for Barca over the summer and a deal is now close to being finalised.
The Belarusian revealed last week that 'serious negotiations' were underway with Barca after he had become 'tired' of living in London.
He is due to arrive in Barcelona on Wednesday lunchtime before being put through a series of medical tests throughout the day.
The Spanish giants have confirmed on their official website that, providing Hleb passes his medical, he could sign his contract within 24 hours.
No details of the fee agreed between Barca and Arsenal have been disclosed, nor the length of contract Hleb has been offered.
Skysports.com revealed last week that the former Stuttgart schemer was close to securing his exit from Emirates Stadium.
Hleb joined Arsenal in an £11.2million deal in 2005 and he has scored 10 goals in 130 appearances for the club.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has already brought in a replacement for Hleb in the guise of Samir Nasri and has also been linked with a move for Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3825523,00.html

Rovers reject £12m bid for BentleyQUOTE Blackburn chief John Williams has revealed they have snubbed a straight cash bid - thought to be £12million - from Tottenham for David Bentley.
Lenny Henry, Chris Evert, oh and a bit of golf as well. Get the latest right now from our man at Royal Birkdale.
After weeks of speculation, Spurs finally made their interest in Bentley official when they lodged a formal offer for the 23-year-old.
However, it is understood that the offer made was significantly less than the £15million Villa bid for the player earlier in the summer.
Williams told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "We've had bids from two clubs for David Bentley; one when Mark Hughes was manager, and the other very recently. They have both been rejected."
The Rovers chairman also confirmed the club had turned down a formal bid - believed to be from Newcastle - for defender Stephen Warnock.
"We've had a bid of £2million," Williams added. "It was rejected and the club concerned has been told he is not for sale." http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,1...3834017,00.htmlHammers near £5m Behrami captureQUOTE West Ham have emerged as favourites to sign versatile Switzerland star Valon Behrami, who has also been linked with a move to Everton.
Lenny Henry, Chris Evert, oh and a bit of golf as well. Get the latest right now from our man at Royal Birkdale.
The Lazio midfielder, who can also play at right-back, is set to leave the Serie A side and a number of clubs have shown an interest in the Kosovo-born 23-year-old.
The Toffees were strongly linked with a summer approach, but now Italian sources suggest the Hammers are very close to confirming a deal.
West Ham's new Italian technical director Gianluca Nani is believed to have played a major role in securing Behrami.
The deal is reportedly going to be worth €6.5million (£5.2million) to Lazio, who have agreed to the sale.
Should West Ham seal his signature then it would represent their first major acquisition of the summer. http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,1...3833576,00.html

However, with Kaka's international team-mate Ronaldinho having now been unveiled at San Siro, and with their financial difficulties well-publicised, the Italian giants appear willing to enter into negotiations with any potential suitors.
Should the World Player of the Year secure a move to Stamford Bridge he would be reunited with Luiz Felipe Scolari, the man who handed him his international debut as a 20-year-old back in 2002 and included him a Brazil squad which went on to lift the World Cup later that year.
Any deal seems certain to break the world record transfer fee, which currently stands at £46million, but Kotscho is confident that an agreement can be reached which will allow Kaka to take on a new challenge in the Premier League next season.
"Real Madrid offered 90 million euros (£71million) last summer and Milan did not even think about the bid," Kaka's personal assistant told The Guardian.
"This time is different. This is the first time we feel that a deal will definitely happen.
"Because of the situation Milan are in at the moment, the deal is good for all parties involved.
"The move would represent a significant increase in Kaka's salary, on top of the 10 per cent transfer fee that goes straight to the player anyway - some 15 million euros (£12million).
"Chelsea are the club to be at right now. They are building a team to win everything." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_3837490,00.htmlMakelele nears PSG moveQUOTE Sky Sports News understands Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele is due to undergo a medical at Paris St Germain on Saturday.
Makelele has been strongly linked with a move to the Parc des Princes in recent weeks, with PSG coach Paul Le Guen confirming his interest.
Le Guen claimed earlier this month that he had held talks with the former France international and the interest appears to have gathered pace.
The 35-year-old is understood to be travelling to France to have a medical ahead of a proposed return to Ligue 1 football.
The former Real Madrid anchor man has 12 months left on his current contract at Chelsea and has previously suggested he would be keen on an extension.
However, his five-year stint at Stamford Bridge, during which he has made almost 220 appearances, seems to be drawing to a close. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3835959,00.html

Milan reject Kaka bidQUOTE Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has confirmed that the club have rejected a massive offer from Chelsea for Kaka.
Reports over the weekend suggested Kaka could be on his way to Stamford Bridge in a world record deal after Chelsea made a move for the Brazilian playmaker.
Kaka's representative fuelled rumours of a move to West London by claiming that the player would be interested in a switch to Chelsea.
However, Milan moved quickly to dispel the rumours by saying Kaka was not for sale and Galliani says Milan president Silvio Berlusconi rejected the mega bid from Chelsea. Offer "It's true that Chelsea made a conspicuous offer, but I will not say how much it was," Galliani told the Italian press.
"It is equally true that we said no. President Silvio Berlusconi rejected the chance to sell Kaka, just as he told Real Madrid no in 2001 for Andriy Shevchenko."
Galliani insists Kaka and Juventus target Clarence Seedorf will be staying with the Rossoneri for the new season.
"Kaka is going nowhere and neither is Clarence Seedorf," added Galliani. "The fans can sleep easy."
Interest Kaka, however, admits he is unsure of his future claiming two clubs are chasing his services with Real Madrid thought to be rivalling Chelsea for the South American's signature.
"When I return to Italy I will know what's going to happen, but at the moment nothing is certain," said Kaka.
"There are two teams who are very interested in signing me, but now I do not want to talk about it.
"Until we return to Milan and know how things are, we cannot decide what happens with my future." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3841580,00.html

Toffees tracking MoutinhoQUOTE Everton have revealed that they are chasing Sporting Lisbon playmaker Joao Moutinho.
The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe and was expected to attract a host of interest this summer following a number of impressive displays for Portugal at Euro 2008.
The Toffees had initially ruled themselves out of the running for the talented youngster, but are keen are to bolster their midfield options following the departure of veteran Lee Carsley to Birmingham.
Club director Keith Wyness confirmed that Moutinho had been identified as a potential transfer target and is hopeful that an agreement can be reached.
"The arrival of Joao Moutinho is a big possibility for us," Wyness is quoted as saying in A Bola.
Sporting are thought to be demanding around 20million euros (£16million) for the player, but Everton are hoping that a complex bid involving a number of future bonuses will suffice.
New Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scloari had also been rumoured to be interested in a player he held in high regard during his time as Portugal coach, but the Blues have since denied that they have any intention of making an approach. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12003_3842672,00.htmlBlues confirm Robinho talksQUOTE Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has denied that Chelsea have tabled an offer for Kaka, but confirmed the club's interest in Robinho.
Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani was reported in the Italian press over the weekend confirming the Rossoneri had rejected a mega bid from Chelsea, while Kaka's representative fuelled speculation by claiming the 26-year-old would be interested in a move to Stamford Bridge.
But shortly after arriving in China ahead of Chelsea's meeting with Chinese Super League outfit Guangzhou Pharmaceutical on Wednesday, Kenyon denied any knowledge of the offer and admitted any move for Kaka was unlikely.
"There was no offer made. I have read the same articles," Kenyon said.
"They have made it clear that he is not for sale and we will make it clear we have not made an offer.
"There is no reason to negotiate over something they don't want to do and we have not made an offer."
But while a deal for one Brazilian appears unlikely, Kenyon was more confident over Chelsea's on-going negotiations with Real Madrid over striker Robinho.
The 24-year-old is unsettled at the Santiago Bernabeu and has made it clear he wants to join former Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari in West London.
"It is well noted we have shown interest," Kenyon added.
"We have had discussions with Madrid over it and they are ongoing. The window is still open and we are still talking to Madrid."
Robinho's agent, Wagner Riberio has confirmed the player has told Real Madrid he wants to leave the Spanish capital.
"Robinho told Real's sporting director Pedrag Mijatovic that Scolari had invited him to play for Chelsea," Riberio told The Sun.
"When Scolari calls it is a big honour for the player and Robinho admires him very much.
"Robinho hopes this can now all be worked out. Scolari is the man he wants to play for."
Riberio claims Robinho became unsettled at Real after being mooted as a possible player in a part exchange deal for Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo.
"The situation about Ronaldo started this," added Riberio. "He was very unhappy." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_3846573,00.html

Makelele leaves Blues for PSGQUOTE Paris Saint Germain have confirmed Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele is set to join the club.
A move back to France for Makelele has been mooted for some time and now PSG have confirmed the imminent capture of the 35-year-old.
Chelsea have allowed Makelele to move on after five successful seasons at Stamford Bridge.
A statement on Chelsea's website read: "Everyone at Chelsea would like to take this opportunity to thank Claude for the five years of service he has given to the club.
"He has been a key part of our trophy success during that time and we wish him well for the future.
"He will always be welcomed back to Stamford Bridge in the future either as a
player or as a friend of the club."
The deal is a coup for PSG as they look to transform their fortunes after a poor campaign last term which saw them narrowly avoid relegation.
